First, the range of my rental is 65,000 to 85,000/month. 95% of my property are leased to a non-English speaking race, Japanese.
if 65-85k is a typo Irene i apologise in advance for being arrogant. based on your quite professional postings and explanations as far as real estate is concerned i got the impression that you are indeed "established" in this business. however, the amount and the percentage you mentioned in context indicates something quite different.

65-85K are real. The 65k income is derived from my investment of 2.5-3.5M 25 years ago. In terms of the amount, our family is established alright in investing and renting.
The term head, wall and banging come to mind Irene.

  2. Cinema standing up.

OK OK I ASKED MY THAI WIFE ABOUT THIS, her answer was very interesting, 1st answer a person who does not stand is just not interested (THai or Farang), 2nd answer farang doesnt understand about the king, 3rd answer if everyone stands up just do the same.

My next question was what she would do if she saw this and her answer was it was ok she would not say or think or do anything it was their decision so maybe in the cinema there were 200 people and only a few took action and I suspect the other 190+ didnt mind or werent interested.

My next question totally lost her, I asked her if everyone walked on to the roof and stepped off would she do the same, I mentioned lemmings but she'd expired at this point. :o

  3. It's just like if you go to the UK, many people will refer to anyone oriental looking as 'Chinks' or 'Spring Links'.

Ie. Are you going to the spring links after the pub. (Are you going to the chinese takeaway after the pub) or, Are you going for a chinkys after the pub. Same meaning as the first.

Nobody means any offence by it but it could be costrued as being insulting.

Personaly i like the term 'Chinaman' but apparently thats not PC either.

Yeah we should go the whole dumb PC way and call ourselves "Earth Inhabitants" :o

  4. Dont fanny about with any of these replies, BRING CASH IN CLEAN UNRIPPED £50 NOTES ONLY AND GO TO A MONEY CHANGER IN PRATUNAM TO GET A RATE BETTER THAN ANYWHERE ELSE.

Keep you mouth shut about doing this to anyone keep the cash on you in an inside pocket preferably zipped up at all times and change the money asap then bank it. No bank account?? walk into Kasikorn bank Seacon Square with your passport and slap the money down to open the account.

Get a taxi to pratunam and as soon and as you have changed the money get back into a taxi. You can call the money changers first by phone to check the rate. If you are bringing thousands they will let you go into their small office for security. Take a friend with you if you have one.

Do not tell any taxi drivers or anyone else you want to change money.

If nobody knows about it it s unlikely you will have any problem.

Its worth rememberin g the UK now tells you you must declare any CASH cheques money orders over €10000 when leaving.

  5. I tend to think ghosts are a product of an overactive imaginiation as well but I am open mined enough not to discount them totally. They seem to be a common part of life here and I was just currious on the TV members take on the whole thing.

When something cant be explained..... just invent a ghost story same with Gods but no use arguing as you cant win whatever side your on.

My opinion of both is utter claptrap!!

  6. The more careful you are and the more you follow instructions and safety regulations the luckier you get :o

got to agree here, less controls in place = more accidents, sadly in the uk the controls for many things have gone way over the top.

better to be safe than sorry ,you can never have too many rules and regulations in place .

Where it involves other people ie aircraft, yes, but on a personal level the uk has too many "safety rules"

You want to see the amount of road markings here and road signs, occasionally a newspaper will show a photo with about 30 signs approaching a junction it has gone crazy.

  7. I disagree. There is such a thing as luck, be it good luck or bad luck or maybe call it fate. I have a friend who is a pilot and he is firmly convinced that the plane crash could have happened in any country, to any airline or with any pilot. He talks about things like wind shear and micro bursts that no pilot could overcome. I'm not a pilot nor a weather phenomenon expert but I tend to agree with him. I might add that he is one of the worst complainers in Thailand.

Good article below and agree it could happen anywhere but maybe as it was budget airline there was more pressure for the pilot to "turn the aircraft round" more quickly and leep the profit margin. Several reports state the pilot tried to increase engine speed as the plane may well have been forced down by the wind.

  8. Many Thais taxis I have been in have been appaling, drive way too fast too close, whilst almost asleep/drunk wont go the way you ask. Occasionally get a good one which is nice, many are bone idle wont help with bags etc etc. I dont tip them, my wife doesnt tip them, sometimes we have been getting out and they are already driving off, the wife usually shouts something at them. Nothing will change until the country does. In the end we will be buying a car so we wont have to deal with the idiots any more. Lets hope the skytrain arrives at the airport soon!!

Council for National Security chief General Sonthi Boonyaratglin yesterday hinted he would enter politics if there was a political party which had sound financial support, strong sympathisers and militant force as a back up.

"If these three factors are there, then that makes it interesting," he said.

Sonthi said if political parties were loyal to the country and could build solid unity for the people, he would step back.

But if they have not reached that level, he would consider entering politics. The criteria as to which party he would join depended on its financial support, how many MPs it had and what its potential was to win the election.

Sonthi was responding to a reporter on whether he would go into politics after he retired.

"I will bring into use the successful strategy of the late leader of the Chinese Communist Party Mao Zedong who established strong support from both sympathisers and the militant."

Better get in some practice of lying down in front of tanks now then!

  10. Why do Thai leaders trust in fortune tellers? Do they really or is it just a game? I doubt this practice would get support from either the Lord Buddha or the Prophet Muhammad. For example, the Qur'an says: "Knowledge of the Hour belongs to God....No soul knows what it will reap tomorrow, and no soul knows in what land it will die; it is God who is all knowing and all aware." (Sura Luqman 31: 34) It's not my business, but General Sonthi is a Muslim. Is he seriously going to take any notice of a soothsayer?

Huh once the word "God" comes into any politics Im outta there!!!! Hitler loved fortune tellers too!!!!!!

  11. How can we make this Thailand related? Did he sing in Bangkok once?

Hmm exactly millions of people die every day in awful circumstances they never get a mention anywhere. Perhaps if he'd ate less he would have lived longer? Spare a thought for all who die each day.

  12. I Think it may be a common trend with Thais in BKK as they experience more of the outside world.

I like her to think more about what she does and not to accept what she has been told without question but its not easy when you have been told it by your parents, teachers and society etc.

  13. Wife says, she used to do this for good luck when we met but she sees so many Monks "on the make" and from actually thinking now about what she was doing that she no longer believes it will do anything and least of all give her good luck. She does not believe it and is tired of seeing Monks ripping of Thai people.

Same with the amulets I think. Pray 1000 times you will have good luck, but she says rubbish now.

Now she just helps underpriveleged people ie no arms legs eyes etc by giving them money and helping with food etc, the Monks get nothing.

This is her reply to me asking today.

  14. Why doesn't the poster just ask HER?

In the words of the great Homer dohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! Did you read my OP?

"I did ask her but she couldnt explain so well "

  15. Would it not be better to ask her about this, rather than a forum of equally clueless foreigners :o ?

"I did ask her but she couldnt explain so well" (In My OP)

Waffled on about her Mother a bit who'd been dead 2 years.

  16. When I first knew my wife she used to sit on her bed at night just before sleeping sort of waiing almost like saying prayers, I did ask her but she couldnt explain so well or Im a lousy listener so what was she doing???

Interestingly she doesnt do it now?
