  1. I am a Foreign Police volunteer and as such am based solely in Pattaya police station, Soi 9....snip...I hope you now understand how we are fulfilling our promise to help farangs/foreigners, and at the same time relieving some of the workload of the police.

You're the perfect person to answer my question then, having direct experience. Are you required to have a work permit to do your volunteer work in Thailand or are you exempted from that requirement?

I will try and answer that one for you Jimmyd as I too am a member of the FPV. Like many volunteer groups we are exempt from the need of a workpermit, we are issued with an ID card that covers the Soi 9 Police Station. This is not just a police thing, if you go to bristols music bar on I think Sundays whoever plays is exempt a work permit as they are raising funds for charity but they have applied for this!. I would class our work as more like that of a Citizens Advice than police. I find the job rewarding in that we are in direct contact with both tourists of all nations and ex pats, the reward comes from seeing them leave with a problem solved. The only thing I dont like is the Black Gear!! but maybe we can change that.

  2. It was a pleasure to organise and also a pleasure to see your face when you came out of the toilet still holding the Towel and Holder :o !!!. As Raro says a Piss up as they used to be. Pitty there were no Red Names in attendance.

  3. Hello y'all,

kdf and she who runs with scissors are back in action. Missed everyone and we are ready to add ourselves to the next pissup.

We have always been proponents of meeting at a place with good fud and OK for the wives and gf with a follow on for the , ahem, harder joints.

kdf + she who runs with scissors

Hey good buddy pleased you and she who runs with scissors are back. Hope you had a good visit and are ready for some catchin up!! :o

If not before mamnoodle and I will be at T Berts friday

    begsaresponse

    Hola Begs,

Barring unforeseen circumstances, we will be at tB at 7:00pm on Friday. Really looking forward to seeing you.

she who runs with scissors got her wallet boosted by some of the local miscreants and needs to blow off some steam.

    Soooo how soon is Friday?

    kdf

kdf she can blow as much steam as she likes off on Friday, probably will not not be many here as it really is Low Low as regards people around but not to worry things can only get better.

  4. American or Italian style? :o

Nicks Pizza are Italian style: wafer thin crust but superb toppings and authenticity.

Obviously, not for everyone; for example American style pizzas with thick dough crusts are a lot more filling and substantial.

Also; on the subject of pizzas; the best non-takeaway pizza available in Pattaya is the Stone Oven on Beach Road/Soi Yodsak. Outstanding. I suppose you could go and order one and take it away yourself................

The Stone Oven is now another Indian Restaurant or will be in a couple of weeks.

  5. Anyway, the shop is still there ... only place to buy real Basmati rice.

    Naka.

Do they sell gram/besin/chickpea flour there? If so, I'll have to ask a kind traveller to bring some for me.

If you walk down Soi Day and Night from South Pattaya road, past Pattaya People office, a little further down on the left is a small Indian shop.

They stock the lot including good quality rice, you should get all you need between there and Soi 17.

  6. Cheers mate really appreciate that! How much are their rooms? I'll give you a bell in a day or so. By the way your full English looks great :o

  9. Never seen one here, but I'm sure if you could find one you would definitely not need a heater. AC - probably, would be quite individual I feel.

Thought you would be fed up with water Bazz :o

  10. the 10 or so bars that were shut for licence problems etc and have made the top of the soi look closed are due to open on the 17 june. (only 2 weeks)

maybe tropical berts might send some food round??

ill have aword with 3 angels when hes back see if hes having one and keep ya posted!

    chris.

At last, the poor old dogs been missing his walks along the Soi. We will try and call in for the party with a few Bones!!!

  11. I will leech some free drinks and finger food at the BCCT function first and join after that at Bert's.

btw...will we allow Buriramboy to sit at our table? :o

Ive a funny feeling that BB may turn up tonight ( Saturday ) at Bert's!!

Was I right or what, nice to see you back BB

  12. Mighty Mouse you won't believe this but on Wednesday 8 of my mates and I went to the Boxing Roo bar on 3rd road (Aussie Bar and Aussie Owner) to watch the State of Origin game, the bar was totally packed to the brim, standing room only. The beer was not really cold enough and as Aussies we couldn't believe it. We thought the bloke might have had a couple of Eskys with ice cold beers at the street end of the bar but they were getting them out of the fridge. Needless to say we have decided that we are looking for a new venue for the next game. :o

edit: sh!t game too, we lost :D

Hi bmanly, your more than welcome at Tropical Berts for the next one, plenty of Aussies and Kiwis ( mainly offshore guys) cold beer and free grub.

  14. It is with great sadness :o that I must announce the closure of a total of 9 Bars in Soi 6 for 60 Days ( not that I go there often, I live next door and walk the dog that way!! ) all have police notices outside.

Which ones and why mate? (no CCTV????) :D

Hi Brit, No CCTV, no or incorrect licence, I think they had all had at least 1 warning!

CANT GET USED TO THIS DONT KNOW WHERE TO WRITE??

ANYWAY i can only speak for myselfe as i have a bar on soi 6, we were closed for 60 days for not having a bar open licence which i have never heard off, and which i put my hands up is through ignorance on my behalfe, my cashier was kept in overnight till 6am.

Mr basset, i think i do see you walking your dog which is nice to see, the bit about being warned ,is for me, not as in as mutch as the police might have come in to the bar , (as you could), and leave a message for me and to be fair to the staff, i would never get that message in a month of sundays, ive got more chance of getting that message of your dog!!

we have just been to a very important meeting at the town in town from the people at F.A.C.T and every thing came back all the speak the girls talked about was not what it said in the papers i had translated! but im only a newbie here and learning day by day.

But could have been mutch worse, but we, as are others, hoping everyday things may change, to all who love soi 6 there are still about 40 bars to chose from so dont stay away as this will damage the things you like about soi 6! the girls might leave and bars might close, so try call off and have a beer.

    many thanks.

    chris.

Dont worry Chris me and the dog will be back for that walk as soon as your sorted, meanwhile were hanging around a bus shelter!!

  15. On my last trip I saw a shopping centre thingy is being built there. High end retail etc. I would guess it is only a matter of time before the bulldozers move in and bye bye Soi Six. :D

    Richard

Maybe someone has picked up on my suggestion to build a "sin" city out in the boonies now that a city isn't going to be built around the sirport. So it'll maybe be off to the boonies for you all.

    :D:o:D:D

The shopping centre thingy is in fact a 3 storey block of beer bars with a swimming pool in the centre!!, dont know who the life guards will be!!! Brit?
