  1. I am planning to bike to Laos by 250 cc bike from Chiang Mai to Luang Prabang and possibly return via Vientiane with a pal.

Never been to Laos, so I hope to get some info and recommendations by fellow readers who have done something like that in the past.

How difficult is the motorbike import to Laos?

    Dog bites problems while biking?

    thanks for competent replies

  2. Dear all competent

I thought it might be better to ask here rather than at CM immigration - I fear their answer would be a no, just to be sure no revenue would be lost.

    Situation:

Having (had) a non immigrant B permission to stay until 23rd August with a multiple re-entry permit until the same day.

Did apply for new extension on the 10th of August and got an "under consideration" stamp until the 22nd of September with a red stamp underneath saying " contact immigration before leaving the country".

Here is my question: Is my re-entry valid until the 23rd of August as stamped in, or is it now invalid because of under consideration stamp?

In case of being still valid, I could do a short trip to Mae Sai without having to be troubled with an extra single re-entry.

    thanks in advance

  3. just came back from Bali yesterday.

Bought a simPATI (TELKOMSEL) SIM card for my 5 days stay and did not use much of the 4 GB data and the 50.000 Rupiahs phone credit, because I was mostly using LINE and VIBER.

Clear connection for talking to Thailand for free....

Someone interested in my SIM (Nano size) ?

    Valid until 19/05/2016

I paid 200.000 Rupiahs (around 540 Baht) for the 4 GB data - there is still 3543 MB credit on the SIM (like 90 % if I am correct).

The phone credit stands still at 42000 Rp. (110 Baht).

Someone interested to have the SIM for 500 Baht ?

Have the screenshots of still available Pulsa (credit) and the data attached

Traditional fixed account also come with a 15% withholding tax on "any" amount of interest earned...it don't have to exceed the Bt20K in interest which is referred to as a tax trigger- level in other types of savings accounts.  You can get this 15% withholding tax easily refunded by applying for the refund during Jan-Mar at your local tax revenue office....you can even apply for 3 years back worth of with holdings.   Other threads address how to apply for the refund...it's easy and a refund usually takes 2 to 6 weeks.

    Hi PIB !

Thanks so much for your info .

    This excellent news to us.

Could you please elaborate where to apply for the refund ? Is that at the tax office were we pay our monthly (salaries) and yearly (profit from business) taxes, or at the bank (with the for "Hak na tee chai" form) ?

This earlier thread on bank interest withholding tax refunds should provide the info you ask for.    Link.

And yes, you want to deal with the tax office dealing with personal income tax; not the office that deals with business/misc/VAT taxes.  Your bank will only be involved in providing you the tax letter you need to submit with your refund request.    But if you are working/paying taxes in Thailand, then you would just work the interest income and withholding into your annual tax return as above thread really focuses towards someone not earning any Thai income like from a job in Thailand...the only source of income "from within Thailand" is the savings account interest.    See above link for more info.

    Hi Pib !

Really enjoy your helpful comments. In my case as a taxpayer in Thailand, I would NOT benefit from the tax refund because the income from interest would be accumulated to my income from work (if I understand that right).

Claiming the 15 % tax would make sense only for people paying LESS  than 15 % tax or none at all,( again if I got this right....)

My wife is also paying a higher than 15 % tax rate, so it would not make sense to lodge the money on her name. Would someone of you know if kids (10 years of age) would be able to claim - doesn't really seem to be likely... Mother in law would be an option, will think about it, but maybe too much of hassles in case of death.

  6. Visas cannot be transferred. If you ave valid visa you have show your old passport until it expires.

if you have an extension of stay you obtained at immigration it can be transferred to you new passport.

If you are applying for a new extension you could wait until then. But you would have to make copies your new passport with the transferred stamps in it before applying for the extension.

There are few offices that charge for the stamp transfer.

You will need complete a transfer stamps form, http://immigration.go.th/nov2004/download/pdf/transferstamp.pdf

You may also need a letter from your embassy confirming you got a new passport.

     Hi Ubonjoe !

Thank you also for quick reply.

Sorry for using the word VISA, as I do not hold one, but do have a permit of stay.

I think I have to go into town and check out if embassy letter is really needed in my case.

  7. It would depend on where you apply. Some big offices have seperate desks fr these task, while others will do it all at the same desk.

    2. It is free.

    3. a letter from your embassy asking to tranfer stamps to your new passport

copies of old paspsort and arrival card

    Hi Mario !

Thanks for your super prompt and competent reply.

will happen in CM - they do have a separate desk for this issue.

would love to see it as FOC, but if memory serves me right, I saw a sign for charges at my last visit (not related).

5 years ago, I haven't been asked for a letter from embassy, but they forced me to cut a small piece of passports front page.

Wouldn't care about if this happens again, as old passport is 90 % full anyway.

Just by change, do you know if I could save myself the embassy hassle by allowing the clipping again?

  8. My old passports validity is slightly less than a year from now and end of permission to stay.

Need to renew my NON B permission to stay in 3 weeks from now.

1.,Should I transfer old permit into new passport ( already holding in hand) before applying for new permit or can/would it be done in the same process?

2., I am pretty sure that visa transfer is not free of charge as it used to be, does anyone know the amount to be charged (just out of curiosity, has to be done anyway...)

3., Which documents to bring to Immigration, other than the 2 passports?

Thank's in advance for competent replies

  9. Understanding that the OP has very little knowledge about real Thailand, I question his accusation about overpricing.

I am getting discounts up to 30 % (did not ask or demand it) for my meals and drinks at my frequently visited restaurants/stalls because they want to see me returning. Business practiced all over the world I have seen.

  10. I'm in rush to get qualified info on this:

Our daughters NON B (type ED) MULTILPLE entries visa ( issued in Europe) is due to do a visa run on the 30th Dec. - it would be nearly impossible for us to be not late a couple of days.

My question is: would she lose her visa if she does overstay on her first 3 month term out of the one year visa?

    Please only qualified info!

Thanks and a good start into 2014!!

  11. Thanks for your informative posting.

Lets see how long the lawmakers in the EU will bring this ruling into force and will stop to hassle us with completly unnecessary procedures to follow.

In our families case we have to apply for my spouses tourist visa at the embassy in Bkk in person! They already have seen the required documents over and over as we travel every year to EU with our kids. Nonetheless we have to travel from the north down to the big mango.

Would love to see a change to this bureaucratic hassle soonest. Trouble is how can WE make our governments to serve us better.

  12. Also on partion D are hidden files called $Recicle.Bin (empty folder),

This looks bad. Something familiar spelled differently is usually a sign that something bogus is installed.

The file is there its spelled in capital letters actually, but no typo - the fact that the folder is empty makes it still bogus?

You never empty your Recycle Bin?

    Hi Chicog!

Thanks for your responds. Yes, I do empty them, tidy boy as I am 555

Is/was this $Recicle.Bin folder empty, because bin was empty? Would make sence to me, but than I do not have much knowlegde about how computers "work" in the inside.

Cheers for all the info anyway. I have decided to leave the pagefile.sys where it is, as the D: has still more than 400GB of space.

The .GHO for a Norton recovery is probably not necessary as I have a good working back up program. I am not sure if this .GHO is in connection with windows recovery restore point, or how this is called.

  13. 1. if you have enough RAM (>8 Gig), a pagefile.sys is not absolutely essential. But maybe they put them on D:, to free more space on the C: partition.

    2. I doubt, they "installed" everything on your PC.

More likely, they did a "network boot" and pushed the Ghost image via Ghost server, to your machine.

This needs only a few minutes, compared to a regular install.

    3. If you are satisfied with the installed system and programs, you could save the .gho file.

But for a recovery, you will need a "norton ghost boot-cd", which can load this image file

    Hi Roban !

Another great answer to my questions. I am obviously not really a understander of computer basics, but try to learn....

I try to insert a snapshot of my com memory (that's RAM???) - hope it works...

It says thet I got a total memory of 8.100 MB, but free only 5.200MB. In that case do I need that pagefile.sys file? What would be the difference of having/not having it on D: ?

As mentioned, I have Rollback RX installed (for C: only!). In case I would delete .GHO file, which troubles would I be asking for?

Hope I do not ask to many (silly) questions. Don't want to steal your time.

Thank's for bearing with me so far anyway

Edited for wrong attachment.... will try to get the correct one in.
