  1. Well I went to Central, they had a couple there a bit pricey.

Went out to Macro they had a few no name GPS's

Looked again at Eagle on the net.

Two things, the GPS's available in Thailand are old models and or discontinued.

Its a bit hard to compare with overseas ones on apples to apples base but I

think I am going to buy from Aus with genuine maps loaded for less than half price

    and a current supported model.

  2. Thanks fellas, I have looked on net at Eagle in CM and seems a good spot.

I particularly want one with the lane indicators for the very few times I go to Bangkok.

I have had maps from Rotweiler on net, in Chiangmai http://rotweilermaps.com/ for a few years and they are good but

they were on a laptop with Garmin software that they dont service anymore. so when I had a prob with Laptop I lost the software !!!!!!!

  3. Anyone know where to buy a GPS in Chiangrai?

I know there are some at Central, but anyone else selling ??

  4. We had a visit from the head man when we were building a front fence. He had been approached when a few had seen the foundations.

The angle from the side fence was too acute, and they believed it would offend the ancestors, any accident at that corner would then be my fault. Thats my interpretation of the discussion.

Simple solution was to put in a short piece to break the angle.

Funny how things work out, a few weeks after the fence was finished, 2 motor bikes collided right opposite the offending point, lucky I changed it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. For what its worth, we just had THE visit, after applying for visa ext as married.

The guy didnt even come inside, he was pleasant and just wanted some paper war that we were asked to prepare.

Before, at Mae Sai, we were helped thru the process by a friendly lady, I had gone early as I was not sure I had everything, she gave us a printed sheet with the requirements, she crossed out some and ticked the things she wanted. We then went back a few days later to submit it.

I think it is worth while going early just in case.

I think this is another example of who you deal with and where you are required to go as to your result, I always have a pleasant time at Mae Sai.

  6. Funny how the Viagra salesmen seem to target certain people.

They seldom bother me, must know they are wasting their time... B)

Don't run them down they have a hard job.

They sell against stiff competition !

They thought I was a soft touch.

  7. I just got back from driving to Luang Prabang in Laos via Chiang Khong. I've written a travelogue but it's very long. I'd be happy to email it yo anyone that sends me a PM with their address.

It is so easy I was amazed. The route is very rough in places though. Well worth it for the scenery alone I might add.

    Cheers

I am really keen to do this. Hope to do it in November. I have tried to find info about crossing with the car in the north but what ever info I get it is alway contradictory. I am sure I read something in this forum before but cant track it down.

  8. What about Siam Paragon's Aquarium?

Private enterprise and blantant dual pricing (Thai prices are written in Thai script) Tourist prices are nearly tripple!

This one truely makes me angry :)

Bastards-- writing the price in their own language !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ye do realize the Siam Ocean World in Paragon is an Australian company with Australian management, don't ye?

    AHHH the irony

If nothing else, he looked and sounded good when interviewed by international press. That chap with his own cooking show couldn't even grunt in English

His french was crisp and he told idioms in Swahili.

Now can Mr Cameron grunt in Thai? Just a pity he couldn't have talk to some Thai's

  11. Bussed it a few times, I prefer Sombat tours who seem to be reliable.

There are different prices depending on the class, with VIP you get a ladyboy to look after you.

So you can pay from about ฿600 to about ฿950.

The VIP has 3 seats across, the others have the normal 4 seats.

They give you the option of getting off at a place before Bangkok the name I forget but I think you are better going thru to Mo Chit.

taxi to skytrain will be less than ฿50 depending on traffic.
