  1. Anyway, according to many posters on this forum, Thailand is the bee's knees and the UK is a H_llhole, so it's a blessing in disguise, surely?

also, surely he has been going to France every 90 days to get his visa re-stamped? and how come he is working in a job a british citizen could do? he may even be wanting to buy a house. whatever next?

  2. there's an english page with the details here :- megadeth gig

there's a facility to pick your tickets up at the venue , (says u need a signed copy of your passport or the c/card you used to buy the tickets) ticket pick-up

easy to get to from lower sukhumvit , it's near the Suan Lum Night Bazaar, next to Lumphini Park, it's a fairly big hall, with a capacity of around 5000 i think.

  3. A lot of sub-prime loans are taken out on short term fixed rates or 'teaser' rates, usually for only the first couple of years of the loan.

A large number of these loans are due to reset to ARM over the next year or two, reaching a peak in March '08 (as said above, could be approaching a trillion USD worth). With the interest rate rises recently, a lot of people are going to see their monthly repayments double or worse.

Credit has been tightened and it will be very difficult for a lot of these loans to be re-financed on to better rates. Nobody will want to take these borrowers on and therefore foreclosure looks inevitable for many.

    us ARM resets

  4. As for your Issan wife (as you call her) being smarter than me -- who knows? If your idea of intelligence is choosing you as a husband, clearly we're unlikely to agree. :o

    Ouch!

I've refrained from joining in on this post out of fear. Not sure I can match wits with yourself, Kat, Bendix, and others. I haven't got the sense that the ladies are bitter like some posters feel. Quite a few generalizations, but the womens' posts ring true.

Age disparities don't determine happiness, but a 58 year man marrying an 18 year old Thai is a little sick. I admit, I find 18 year olds attractive, but couldn't imagine falling in love, or for that matter, her loving me.

    could you a 28 year-old or a 38 year-old or a 48-year old?

I'm 40 and my wife is 35. Probably could have fallen in love with someone 10 to 15 years younger. Never dated someone that much younger and assume their would be issues, but it could've happened. As for someone 10 years my senior, probably not.

yeah, 58 and 18 or 28 would look odd. can imagine 58 and 38 or 48 looking ok.

  6. yes, can touch type. went to college to study computing and during the summer before it started, they recommended that you take their typing course. they stuck tape over all the keys and got you to RSA1 standard in about 4 weeks.

the basics are not hard really you just have your 'home' keys, ie. left hand over 'asdf' and right over 'jkl;'. your fingers cover three each, the home key and then 1 up and 1 down, your index fingers each cover 3 of the extra 6 in the middle. you hit the space bar with your thumbs. bit more to learn about shift keys and numbers/punc marks etc.

  7. i've got to chirp in here.

how many people are going to invest 3 years getting a degree and then a few thousand quid to do a TEFL course, to work for 25,000baht or so a month? which is around what this guy was probably earning.

if you can find enough of these well qualified teachers to fill the demand then i would be very surprised.

  8. a taxi will be about 350 max on the meter with the 50surcharge and tolls.

an easy way is to get the Airport Express bus (AE2) for 150baht which will drop you at the end of Khao San Road and Soi Rambuttri is 2 minutes walk from there.

  9. it sounds like the villagers sneering at him are not people he should be too concerned about.

you see a lot of people in the uk sneering at people from other cultures, but they are usually fairly thick and most people from other cultures are encouraged to not be too concerned about them either.

Ok, but if - for instance - a white Brit started to mix within a 100% asian community in the UK, and started to dress and act accordingly, wouldnt that be a little odd?

same scenario in reverse? might seem a little odd, but i wouldn;t sneer at them.

    would you?

It's not at all the same scenario in reverse, the Brit's in his home country.

yes. sorry thats what i meant. a reverse scenario where someone in their home country took on elements of an arrival from another country.

Asian communitys in the UK are british also. But they have their own culture - it is definatley odd, from a western perspective, for a white brit to adopt asian culture (odd as in not normal - unusual - strange - bit of an oddity, the odd one out - etc etc.)

yes i agree that would seem odd, but that wouldn't be someone trying to fit in with a new culture, that would be someone trying to unfit themselves from their own culture. so maybe slightly different things in play there.
