  1. Bought some Eukanaba. I figured I'd outsmart her and mix it half and half with the Pedigree.

She left the Pedigree sit all day and when I mixed it, she managed to eat all the Eukenaba and leave the Pedigree.

Now I want to give it away - Tony's Shelter? Take it to the beach and feed the soi dogs? I can see food fights if I do that.

What to do with the big bag of Pedigree?

  2. "Make sure that this bird receives an abundance of high-water-content foods – fruits and veggies. This will help prevent dehydration. In these situations, where the beak is chipped by a fall, I recommend finely chopped fresh foods. I would use a food processor and make a mash. My mash diet recipe can be found at http://www.parrothouse.com/mash.html The beak will grow back with time. I would suggest that this Grey be fed a small amount of mashed hard-boiled egg every other day to help along the proper growth of its beak."

However since you mentioned bleeding, a vet is still a good idea in case anti-biotics may be needed to ward off infections.

He chipped off the sharp part of his beak. It's painful as he doesn't want to move about much. I gave him some of the most calorie and fat dense food I could find that was also soft.

Peanut butter. I think he appreciated it. They don't use that part of the beak for breaking things open but I imagine that anything hitting the inside of his upper beak must cause him some discomfort. For now I've moved all his food and water trays close to him so he doesn't have to move around at all if he doesn't want to.

I'm hoping in a day or two it will be less sore. They can adapt to almost anything My blue-front amazon caught his toenail in a lock, and managed to twist his leg almost to where he broke it. He limped around on one leg for a month and a half before putting weight on it again. Within a few days he was able to get around the cage, eat - do everything he did before.

    I'm watching him.

    I need a drug scale.

I also found hand feeding formula and a syringe - if necessary I'll hand feed him.

  3. You dont listen to suggestions!! Take it to a vet!! :o Nignoy

    Mr. Nig.

    Bite me.

Frankly I'm tired of hearing how good you are and how well your Greys were. You're one of these prissy know it alls who probably lived in an ivory tower your whole life. I can just imagine with your personality, that you probably had all the little girls who worked for you cowering.

    So bite me.

My Grey and I don't need you nor your advice.

  4. My grey hit the tile - I heard a crack. I was sure he hit his breastbone but 2 to 3 cm of his beak broke off.

It bled and he fought me from trying to hold any pressure on it.

Today I see he isn't eating, so I handed him a pellet but he put it in the side of his beak and then dropped it.

I wet his food so it is soft.

How long will it take to heal before it doesn't hurt him to grab with the raw end of his beak. Can I do anything? Maybe some crazy glue on the tip - to cushion it?

    Suggestions please.

  5. Pedigree - I fell for it. I bought the 20kilo bag for 700 baht - on sale.

She hates it. It sits in her bowl - I"m going to have to give her cat food until I can go get some decent dog food.

Eukenaba - Science Diet - all good foods. Expensive thought.

What do I do with the Pedigree? Feed it to the soi dogs?

  6. Look - I can't find pellets here so it's a moot point. I didn't harm my birds by feeding them pellets - they're healthy - bloodwork always came out perfect - and they are happy.

I'm here in Pattaya and so are they. They must eat.

What are the measurements for the mixture you gave me? It is a matter of getting my grey to eat something other than pellets - he is not interested.

Grapes seem to the only thing thus far that catches his fancy.

  7. ...me naked in the shower blocking her exit and she tolerates it until I come to her head.

    ...

Funny thing happened tonight, I brushed my teeth in front of her. When the toothpaste started foaming, she started barking; crazy barking.

As soon as I rinsed she was ok. Inherit fear of rabies?

you make me laugh - are you serious? :D:o

Yes. She didn't start losing it until I was 1 minute into brushing and toothpaste was coming out of my mouth.

I figured it out about 30 seconds after that.

  8. Based on the Hi So obedience school I sent my golden to in Bangkok, huskies are very popular. They are wonderful dogs, despite their high pitched squeals (I think they were trying to bark). Someone on TV once said if you are overweight it means your dog isn't getting enough exercise. With a huskie, you will lose weight. Enjoy.

Gina has no problem barking. She doesn't do it often but she barks at things that come up to the gate.

Tonight I gave her a bath - me naked in the shower blocking her exit and she tolerates it until I come to her head.

  9. Tile floors and long beaks don't mix. I heard something crack and thought it was my Grey's breastbone. He managed to just knock 2 cm or more off his beak. It bled a bit but seems to have coagulated.

I imagine he will have some trouble getting around as it must hurt.

I'm going to look for styptic and crazy glue. Not so much to put the tip on but in case he cracks his beak altogether.

A pair of pliers to pull blood feathers -

    Any other suggestions?

    Antibiotics?

  10. Meet Geenah as my wife calls her. I suppose her name is Gina, I usually call her "stop that".

    Pics

two friends have similar dogs; get ready for lots of exercise, they are energetic dogs.

Also..be careful...one of my friends who used to let me take his dog windsurfing actually had her stolen; lots of people like this type of dog, and don;t think twice about stealing it. :-(

She might eat them. She will grow to about 100 pounds, maybe more. She is energetic - drives me crazy most of the time.

I just got a gentle leader leash for her - from the States. We are going to try that.

  11. Weaning young birds or animals on artificial foods is making a rod for your own back!!make your own food mixture, palm or soy oil based biscuit mix( rolled or cracked oats , grated baked egg yolk , multivite, powdered eggshell or calcium and palm or soy oil andhoney mix to a dough rollout 2cms thick bake in a slow oven for 1hour allow to cool ) store the biscuit in air tight container , feed with sunflower and other mixed grains , also offer lots of palm fronds all greys love eating softwood and twigs, get used to making your own egg and biscuit mix ,remember you need to feed to breed :o Nignoy

I'm going to disagree with you. Here is why: My grey's bloodwork for 8 years has been perfect eating those pellets. I gave away my blue-front amazon - he had miserable eating habits - hated pellets but would eat people food. It was hard enough getting two of them here. My friend took him - they're both happy.

The pellets have kept them healthy for years.

No more pellets. If I had them, I'd continue feeding them pellets.

Now to your recipe - I don't have an oven. I suppose I could get a toaster oven.

I found the oats at FoodLand, but what about multivite and I have no idea what a palm frond is.

  12. A good cage is hard to find, I bought 2 from the vendor by the Erawan shrine in the new area in JJ Market.

Chinese made and fair quality for 2000B each.... on a rolling stand.

You are going to have to go to BKK to get anything decent for yr birds.

    Toys....... forget it!

You will have to make your own....... there is one vendor selling very expensive toys in the new area of JJ market, I saw his prices and fled the scene.... they were made in Germany.

Crazy when most toys on sale in the west are made in China.

    What is the JJ market?

  13. Try weaning them off the pellets from now on and try to get very fresh palm oil seeds.

Take notice of what Niggy tells ya..... :o

I saw yr airport post before I saw this one.

What are palm oil seeds? Better, what are they called in Thai and where would I find them? Most of the bird stores feed the birds nothing but sunflower seeds. I haven't seen a good seed mix, maybe I could make up my own.

  14. I will glady accept your help. I have an 8 year old African Grey who I weaned and have fed him Pretty Bird African Select since weaning. He loves pellets. I rarely fed him anything else.

My Senegal is also eating the same pellet but he will eat other things. I made them eggs this morning - shell included but I'm not sure how much they ate. I gave them some fruit but they largely ignored it.

Tonight I just gave them some pellets - they both nearly ran to the side of the cage - they could smell them when I took them out of the bag.

When they are gone I'm fearful they will not eat properly.

The pellets are great for them, especially the Grey as he needs palm oil. I'll have to find that by itself - somewhere.
