Hi Guys
Am making my annual trip to udon but have decided to take a trip to Hua Hin with the inlaws
I have done the drive to Hua hin many years ago but need to know the best route so I don't get stuck in Bangkok (like last time) OR RUN INTO ANY FLOODED AREAS!
I know I need to drive down the main motorway number 2 through Khon Kaen and keep going south but would like to know the best way around a ring road of Bangkok and which road then to take to end up in Hua Hin??
any ideas of road numbers or towns to follow would be great my google earth is playing me up! and am I right in saying it was about a 15-16 hr journey??
Regards and thanks in advance

I am not rich my Thai wife and I are carers In the Uk,
I built a nice sized 3 bed bungalow for my mother in Law and her 2 grandchildren she was raising from my savings as they desperately needed a decent house (*550kbht) 7 years ago I knew being Thailand I would never own it myself and have never thought of it as my house its for THEM to live in... Father in law died years before I came to Thailand, This family is poor from remote village in Udon Thani district.
Mother in law is 65 and not very able bodied (arthritus, blood pressure probs, poor sight) but doesnt drink alcohol or gamble or wander far from her house...... I bought a pregnant cow and in time the cow delivered 4 calfs which created an income on selling.
MIL has rice farm which she works to best of her ability with the sister and son in law not very big but makes enough to last about 9 months supply of rice every year which they care about passionately.
Wifey has always worked and sent money to her mother to raise her 11 year old daughter (not mine) even before I met her...
I brought Wifey to the Uk as she wanted to be with me and work to help support her mother and child.....every month for the last 6+ years wifey has sent over 10k per month from her own wages to her mother and child..... I am proud of my wifey for doing this.....
I myself pay 270 pounds a month to pay my fathers mortgage due to ill health and 200 pounds pm to my mothers mortgage due to ill health both in the UK....so we are supproting 3 families + ourselves... but I as you can see am paying more to my falang parents than wifey is to her mother......
Each to there own but I have one life and family and I supprort them because I can

OK so 7 years ago I was in Hua Hin visiting my brother, I a 36yr old lady he a 37yr old we were out at the usual fun bars and at about 1am decided to return to our separate villas on our separate bikes he agreed to see me home safely ........... at a certain point he decided I could continue the rest of the way alone Not impressed and quite unsure I continued my journey and noticed a bike in my rear view mirror gaining quickly....... I continued and told myself be strong everything is ok......it wasnt the biker an asian male about 25 ish came along side me and started shouting and pointing for me to pull over and saying I f%%k you....I love you....reading myself for action I continued and desperately scanned the strrets for open shops etc Nothing ........he got closer and grabbed my handle bars we swayed violently and in fear of a crash I shouted ok ok and slowed to a stop fearing for my life he seemed drunk and so I knew I had a slim chance of survival...... He dropped his bike to the floor and tried to kiss my face we struggled but I fought him off and so mistakenly he mounted my bike pushing me to the rear seat I simply stepped off the bike.... he grabbed my arm and tred to pull me closer but I twisted his wrist and arm and moved him to a postision facing the floor and punched him in the side of the head I then jumped back on my bike and decided quickly it was not wise to return to my empty apartment alone I turned and drove as fast as I could to my brothers apartment 5 mins away full throttle as I was driving shaking from head to toe the asian in my rear view mirror seamed to be far behind and give up... I realised I had gotten a front wheel puncture but did not slow at alll!!! Getting to my bro's I could see no sign of the attacker a very very lucky escape and glad that my father insisted on martial arts as a hobbie throughout my chilhood....I have forgiven my brother for abandoning me that night but I will never forget it EVER!

Im sorry my friend for your terrible position, life is indeed difficult at times I write this not as a mother or father but as an aunt who today discovered her brothers wife, Thai wife, has run away and left him in Thailand stranded and devastated, she has gone with his 5 year old son and unborn child due in september. We are all devastated beyond words! she showed no signs of unhappiness in the uk and this was to be a holiday to thailand visit a few relatives etc..
I am in no way suggesting your wife will do the same but my friend if I were you I'd keep the child close, words cannot describe the feelings of pain and despair we all are going through. If she says she's going to return then why take the child at all, would the childs quality of life be better there?
Are you willing to lose the child forever or would she keep in touch and allow you to visit the child... I trust you are well and trying your best to make your relationship work in belgium, has she any Thai friends in belgium, is there a community she can relate to..... I feel for you I really do, just wanted to share with you our experience.

Thanks guys,
I want to drive myself around Udon and then down to Hua Hin with the inlaws, I normally use Lek car rentals a pick up toyota or mitzi Triton but I keep watching their faces in the rear view mirror getting battered by the wind for the 12 hr journey in the back of the pick up!!
Thought it would be nice to have them all safe on the inside this year, though I will miss the fun of seeing the g-force winds pelting their cheeks...... Only joking.
So will have a think about my options and keep searching, looks like hertz or budget at udon airport maybe the best option though god knows what the interior is like?
Cheers guys
If you know anyone willing to hire I'm looking to pay about 30k for 25 days hire but insurance with zero excess is a priority also!

I had this problem at a water park in Udon, was told to get out because of my shorts....told them to get lost as Id paid over 1.5k on entry fee and suit and inflatable hire for my kids
they then said they wanted to charge me 100 baht to wear my own costume, I laughed and carried on splashing around in their pool amused at the cheek said 100 baht was fine........ later my pool attendant brought me my food and drink bill for the family, I asked where was the 100 baht fine for wearing my own short... he smiled and said no charge

Hi I'm looking to hire a minibus in September for approx. 25 days in Udon Thani, a 9 seater would be perfect I have looked up various sites found a few that are expensive but not willing to show any interior pictures so that I know what I'm getting for my hard earned cash..
Any Ideas?

Hiya Folks,
I'm looking to price a removals company to move some household items from Bangkok to Udon Thani?
Included in the removal are some household items fridge freezer, washing machine etc... It's not an entire house so I think a short wheel base transit type would be ok but I am struggling to find a company.
Its for my Thai In laws who are wanting to move back home from the building site where they currently live in Bangkok.
Any names or numbers would be greatly appreciated
Many thanks.
