  2. My young nephew has just pulled out the red paper from the village army box and so has been told he is to join the army for 2.5 years....

He's terrified and has to leave a really good job in bangkok to do this compulsary service, Im scared he's going to do a runner and so want to know is it possible to pay his way out of this service and if so how much and who does he pay???

  3. Hi Nicole,

my thai family is from just up the road a place called Sangkhom, we often pop to Phen for fresh fruit as our local village market is very lacking. Phen Is not at all a tourist attraction and as a female myself I can advise that travelling alone is not advisable there. one main street with shops on both sides provides your sole entertainment in Phen. There is a small 7/11 and bank a hospital and police station. Phen is an area best visited by car easy to get around and about you can hire a car/truck from Lek car rentals check them out, essential for sight seeing the museums temples and parks. They can meet you anywhere Lek is a woman speaks good english and are helpful in every sense in my experience. There is a hotel up the road from phen that has opened a water park wonderful when you cant handle the heat, enjoy your stay it is rural and has an honest rugged side to it which I personally enjoy.

  4. My Mother in law left the house to walk the cows to the usual eating place, our 2 pet dogs followed suit as always. School bus driver comes speeding around the corner mother in law jumps out of the way small dog gets knocked down and killed.:annoyed: (small Isaan village)

Family come crying to me with the poor little dead dog in arms, after a few hours we find out where the driver lives, It was a hit and run by the way  Go to his house mother in law and sister in law all go and talk to the guy, he waves them off smiling as if nothing happened, mother in law cries to me, I get out of the car shout at him to wipe the smile off his face and show some bloody respect............... His smile disapears he apologises offers money. None wanted or taken Just apology and a warning that it could have been a small child he killed, End of story we left. :jap:

Not too far to walk I suppose is what I'm getting at I don't think the kids could handle it, We are in Udon and in 5 hours they are all getting up excited to go, Yes I know its late my wife suggested it 2 hours ago and now everyone wants to go and is looking at me to take them ....Cheers

  7. Totally off topic but it's late and your online so I need to ask do you know any kid friendly waterfalls in Udon Thani area please Have heard tham Ngarm is a 5 kilo walk so think Yung Thong is best is that right sorry to interupt your topic....?

  8. Hey Latindancer, How you doing?

There is a Sang khom in nong khai and another bout half hour drive from amphur Phen near bahn don dua etc,

I have married a Thai from Ban Dung Pak Tiem in Sang khom, Near amphur Phen North east Udon is this the area you are refering to? If so which village is she from ?

My wife says sin sod is a gift around her area NOT returned to husband this goes for thai and farang I've seen it myself. Your wife has been married before, So she's not new to this but will want the best gift for her parents you need to discuss with her your realistic budget and future plans. DO you expect to send the family monthly support money, will you all live together in your or their home will you be living outside Thailand and who pays for visa's can you afford both?

Let me know what you decide to do It all really depends on lots of factors really!

    Good luck

  9. Hi Colabamumbai,

I'm in need of internet access next month when I come to thailand (udon Thani), Do you mind me asking what is this aircard thing you purchased? I imagine it is like a mobile internet dongle which is what I need for my laptop are they easily found in Thailand? and what would you recomend based on your experience?

    Cheers

  10. Hi Folks

I'm coming for a month to a small village Near Sangkhom, Udon Thani and would love to use the internet on my laptop whilst there. Is there a mobile dongle I can purchase and roughly how much do they cost if possible?

Or would it be more practicle to get aphone line and modem etc??

    cheers

  11. :D Good luck with all your exams and visa applications folks!!

"Life in the Uk " training websites are all over the internet, the home office sample test gives a really good idea of what to expect. My civil partner passed two months ago! If I remember rightly the Britishness test website was a good one! Tell your partner she can use the headphones during the exam it helps to better understand the questions which are multiple choice answers...... Rambling now sorry people Tired

We didn't need to pass this test to enter the uk, It was not necessary for a marriage/Fiancee visa but that was two years ago, It was necessary for the ILR though.

    Best of luck

  12. I was paying by installments to start 5k after 2 weeks 15k after 4 weeks another 13k and the final payment was to be on completion hope this clarifies things.... I payed by installments because theses guys are local workers and have children to feed, As I said whilst I was there they did work hard. I had great expectations and was willing to give a nice brucie bonus now my 62 yr old mother in law and daughter in law are living with the dissapointment as am I.

At least I am not gutted like that poor fella who was banking on a 10 million build (IGNIS) geez thats real bad.... sheep quite apt as I am from Wales but I am not a sheep just had to watch a good guy gone bad and yes like gypsies they run if they can. As for this being a LOS thing well all I can say is Ive had 3 houses built in other parts of the world in the past and nobody ripped me off over construction ..... I can mention several icidents in Thailand over the years, however I still love the King and Country it is the drunken greedy Thai's in certain area's that make me so upset. I am sure as bemused mentioned Karma will catch him. I just wanted to warn people this TEE from Sangkhom cannot be trusted... Thank you for your sympathies all I am not letting it get me down anymore...

  13. Just spent a month in Udon Thani, arranged with (I was informed by the wife) a reliable and good builder to construct a wall around our house. The mother in law nephew and daughter reside there we are in the Uk. Anyhow builder said 46 thousand baht for the work and we buy the materials, this price seemed reasonable we had higher and lower quotes from other people. So cut a long story short they seemed good people while I was there worked most days and now we have come home they have dissapeard, we have paid them 33 thousand sofar and we due to make final instalment on completion but they have not done any work for a month. Apparently this reliable and good builder turned up at the house the other day drunk and said he doesnt want to finish the wall now as it is small money. we have piles of sand, stone cement and other items lying around in the garden as we speak.

Im very angry this kind of thing keeps happening in Thailand. The builders name is TEE from Sangkhom Udon Thani if anyone hears of him to do work be warned stay away he is not reliable and has let us down in a major way. I am not wealthy and have borrowed the money to get this wall done altogether so far it has cost me 3 thousand pounds and it is still not finished will try to attach photos of this guy at a later date.

  14. Jason I think you are a selfless loving kinda guy.. I am of a similar nature I threw money at my Thai wife initially because I thought she needed it to support her family, yes people I threw 10 thousand English pounds at an Isaan family to build a new home furnish it and have food schooling cows etc....

I was emotionally detatched from the money and the Thai girl :D

    WHY??

Because my British girlfriend was trying to steal my money and it cost me 22 thousand pounds to prove her theft and fraud, ALSO my family 1 by 1 chose to strip me and blackmail me emotionally until I gave them nearly 20 thousand pounds and completley head shot!!!

I ran to the refuge of Thailand where people NEED help I found a family I threw them money and ran away back to the UK..... I am now married to this thai woman she lives with me in the UK works and pays me her wages every month to pay our combined bills... she has paid back more than I gave her !

As for the people in the UK well you can see the figures...Thai verses Farang....... I know whats worked out better...... Not everyone is as lucky as me but there are a few crazy GOOD Thai ladies out there ....

By the way I was not rich I had money from a house investment but my family and ex tried screwing me out of it..... Now its all gone they leave me alone and I am VERY VERY VERY happy with my new job and THAI FAMILY :) AND YES THE THAIS KNOW IM NOT RICH

  15. My dad brother and I all have Thai wives we all paid on average 10k a month to support them initially, the Thai wives are all now living in the UK and working earning there own money. Truth is each Thai has there own expectations and you cant tell if they are true initially. We are lucky ours have paid back ten fold what we gave them money and love.....

My Thai Mother in law has a sister I know well in khon Kaen she has 3 farang boyfriends they know nothing of each other each pay her different amounts each month to support her as they believe she needs it. She now has a restaurant, 2 houses, computers and a car!! They know nothing they all come to Thailand at different times of the year and she takes them all back to the family village (poor looking no furniture etc) to stay at mums....

She has I must say in her defence she paid all the medical bills for her mums cancer treatment and Brothers sickness and other stuff

Good luck whatever you do ..

  16. Hi guys my sister in law was just granted a visa on 5/8/09 to be in the uk for 2 years on a marriage visa. She wants to stay until 11/09/09 so that she will be at her nieces wedding party, Have just been told the visa must be used within 30 days of approval is this true does anyone know?
