Rather than improve infrastructure, bring in less discerning tourists eh?
And they get the less discerning tourists from the "improvements". For example this endless sh*tshow along the beach. Instead of a nice promenade that would attract quality visitors, this glorified road/"promenade" and beach side parking has driven them off and all they can get now are mostly Thais and these low class cigarette smoking foreigners. With the downhill change in foreign tourism from demographics from quality to quantity. The tourist in 2023 spends much less than the 2019 tourist.

Right got it. So if any drunken idiot decides to ask security for a fight over here then security has to fight and throw the first punch instead of just saying no and telling the drunken idiot to move along. Rules of engagement must be different over here. Guess it's just as well they don't carry guns I suppose.
Something like that. And am assuming you are not located here, and have little if any contact with the local males here. As evidenced by your naive comments: It's bad enough just being around and putting up with these local males in every day situations. But to be aggressive and waving arms in their face ?????. Let me give you a clue Lou. Don't look at them , don't talk to them and don't listen to them

Once the bills were paid and he was outside the bar the sober and in control security should have just waved him goodbye. There was no need to engage in the thuggery at all. The security thugs committed needless violence by escalating a situation that didn't need it and should face punishment for this.
You need to have a look at the video I referenced: Again, the bills were paid up and he was standing out in front of the bar alone. Again (see video ) at this point he could have walked away. Instead he walked up into the bar continuing his aggression and challenges the security guard. This then resulted in all piling out into the street fighting. No- security is not expected to "wave him away" As I said before... The brit asked for a fight. And as I also said before the kick was criminal act

Yes indeed pay as you go.Understood. And my post states Another way ( the fight) could have been avoided

My nephew has travelled to Thailand for the first time this week. His opinion of Pattaya is that it is a sleazy place. It has a dangerous and badly maintained infrastructure. He agrees with me that no one should take their family there until they repair the footpaths, stop vendors and motorbikes encroaching on them, have many places where pedestrians can cross the road safely and remove the stupid telegraph poles in the middle of narrow footpaths which force pedestrians to step onto the road.
Very well said. And your nephews point of view would apply to most quality Western visitors. They ain't coming back. This is why the city is going after the "Stans" Central Asians who they figure might be oblivious/ put up with the infrastructure from Hell.

All of this could have been avoided if Thai bars operated like most other bars in the world (and in their UK) and you paid for each drink when it is ordered. How difficult is that? But for some bizarre and unknown reason every bar here lets you run up an unlimited bill with no certainty that it can be paid. And sometimes, when the drinker loses track and can't pay, all hell breaks loose. I don't get it.
Another way all this could have avoided , the fight out front that is
From the video, after the pushing in the bar and bills paid up.
White shirt who was acting very aggressive In the bar is standing out front alone. At this point he could have walked away, end of story. But instead he returned to inside bar continuing his aggression. So he asked for the fight with security for sure. Of course no excuse for the kick. But he asked for the fight. A jerk for sure.

And it hasn't worked. Maybe the problem is that the Brit tabloids constantly play up the, ah, sexier side of Thailand to appeal to the prurience of average louts living in their council estates. Thailand should sue the tabloids and win the way the Royals do!
Nonetheless, the tourism numbers continue to increase. But I agree that support hasn't kept up with the numbers.
Indeed: And the following numbers support this drastic quantity over quality in Thai foreign tourism. Comparing 2019 and 2023. I double checked the math from the search numbers. On average each foreign visitor in 2019 spent 10 times more than the visitor in 2023: 2019, 2 trillion baht/40 million tourists. And in 2023, 140 billion baht/28 million tourists

Yes my problem is I don't like jerks. And I dont have anything to say to naive thai apologists who don't see a problem with "these" so called security jerks. Adios

Are you talking about the security guards or drunk tattooed Brits? If Brits, I can see your point.
If security, I’ve never had a problem with them.
Here is context. Actually I have problems with all the jerks In Pattaya, foreign and locals . About 80% of locals and 40% of foreigners

Yes the number of tourists has increased but total revenue is about 3/4 of pre covid revenue

So we agree - right? Thailand does not get a lot of 'quality tourists' unlike what the Junta TAT and now PT TAT claim is the case.
You won't see quality tourism in Pattaya at large for many good reasons. They staycation in upscale enclaves/5 stars in areas like wongamat. Not sure if that's going to be enough to float the boat here or not for all the development?

Reading the answers of a few US lawyers seems to indicate this is going to be a problematic issue when the dust finally settles.
What's going to be problematic for the democrats are the the minorities who identify with being persecuted by the justice system when they vote for Trump. The backfire is just another reason Trump is gaining the minority vote

So is part of the plan to cut down all of those wonderful trees along the beaches iin jomtien ....that would be a damn right shame ....we all know that thais don;t like to sit in the sun and also more and more farangs also don't want to fry like a slice of bacon with no shade....please please leave the trees alone...
This the plan. "These people" are just running rough shod on what was a quaint seaside town. Massive drain pipes left over from the Colorado River aquaduct, concrete and palms, parking lot, contract/kickbacks sh*tshow.

NOT TRUE!!!
In Thailand driving safely it is ABSOLUTELY NOT enough to be ok!!!
You purposely forget about the OTHERS (Thai) lack of driving skills and, above all, the carelessness and stupidity in their driving (and thinking) way of life…
Yes , amazing how some can be so oblivious to this fact. Some kind of denial maybe.

It is not safe anymore to be outside in Pattaya. This is becoming a common occurrence with groups of teens causing chaos and injuring people Thais and foreigners alike. Perhaps what is needed is for the Mayor and police to initiate a curfew for minors like they did in Phuket. And have the police arresting the minors and taking them home. It can not imagine the amount weapons to be found if that happened. It seems every teen now is equipped to kill or mame someone.
Not so safe at 0200. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. And just what did city hall expect: Beach Rd parking, All these happy sh*t events along that glorified Rd/promenade. They wanted more Thais in Pattaya to make up for losing quality high spending tourism. Well they are going to lose more and more . Be careful what you ask for- you might get it

No you or they about have that backwards : 2019 , 2 trillion baht/40 million foreigners=50,000 baht/foreigner. 2023, 1.3 trillion/28 million foreigners=46,428
* Best to do two searches for each year : 1) total foreign revenue. 2) total foreign visitors
