  1. Over the years I've been in two accidents, first one driving a motorbike, another driving a car. Both times a motorbike tried to overtake right side when I was turning right. Over the years, I have had two accidents, the first on a motorcycle and the second on a car.  On both occasions, the motorcycle tried to pass from the right as I turned right.

This risk of death in most countries is around 1%, the risk of 'long COVID' is significantly higher at maybe 5%.  COVID was first classified as a respiratory virus, but the medical community now thinks this may have been an incorrect classification that it should really be classified as a cardio-vascular virus (the reason why we have more varied symptoms).   I won't have anything to complain about if I die, but I really don't want to be stuck with 'long COVID'.   A vaccination lowers the risk of catching it (it does not prevent it, it readies your body to fight it once you get infected as with all vaccines -- basically it is an attempt to prevent a foothold situation).  If you do unfortunately 'catch it' it significantly reduces the severity and risk of hospitalization - and the 'long COVID' potential...  Vaccination (which I have received fully vaccinated as of 2.5 months ago, and I will get a booster in maybe March 31st next year) is one of many things that you can do to reduce your risks (wearing a mask reduces your chances of spreading it if you do catch it; and others wearing a mask will in turn reduce the chance of someone else spreading it to you -- is another)....

Vaccines are probably one of the major reasons why the average lifespan has nearly doubled over the last century...  no guarantees, but it raises the chances you will lead a longer life with less health issues... so I find this antivaxxer crowd to be .... silly.

Lethal for around 1% of infected, and there is few percent of population who are infected, so far. Not in one year as they usually count things, but in two years, from day one. Everywhere like that. And everywhere they are telling that with omicron higher infection rate, less hospitalization. Regardless of headlines telling us horror stories and officials predict worst case scenarios, every freckin single day. Two years already, 24/7.

  3. Used über several times, so far in Bangkok and Tallinn only, and grab just once, in Pattaya. Had not any bad experience.

Also, once über charged a little too much, don't remember details but talking about 30 baht or something. Reporting is made easy, so did it, and they fixed that without delay before charging my card.

Thanks - hope you can be back here tomorrow and share your experience? ;)

First ride done with Pattaya grabcar, from Jomtien to Sukhumvit a little further from North Road. Worked fine, fee 200 baht as app said in advance. No, didn't use GPS this time, probably because of straight route by main road.

  5. Thailand will be protective of the thai workforce.

Thai, people, have Never embraced the rich white hunter , alien farang, into their culture , and never will .clap2.gifclap2.gif

So , why should they allow people from poorer countries , to work for lower wages in Thailand.

Same as the EU. whose failure has been in allowing poorer countries to join .

Thailand will not make the same mistake . Protect what you have.

P.S. Third world economic plan is sustainable. is the future , like it or not .

No work , No pay, wai2.gif

Actually I believe Thailand already allows workers from poorer neighbour countries. If understood right, they can get work permit quite easily, to work for example in construction industry in Bangkok.

  6. Finally some sense!

    Not finally.

The man has always been sensible.

It's other people that they never listen to what he says but just interpret in a way that suits them.

Gen Prayuth was quoted as telling officials: "Can they be safe in bikinis ... unless they are not beautiful?"

Yep. And it's very easy to be "sensible" when others are even more... something. I actually think this is kind of PR thing, released for purpose that's at the moment unknown for public.

  7. I can't believe all these anti-Russian posts! What's your problem with them guys ?

The problem here is not he is a Russian, but that he was too drunk!

How many times did we see same bad, stupid, brawling attitude from drunk Farangs ?

I can't count... Way too many!

If we had to send back home all Farangs who drink too much,

all fly to western Europe would be full during weeks... sad.png

Yep. Not too much Russian-lover either, but usually things are a bit questioned before people are lynched. When it's Russian, no questions made like "why", or "is this the whole story and absolute true" or... Kicking sleeping pregnant woman for no reason, and after grab other one's tit like it was only thing to do??? Ok, things happens...

  8. ...Improving the road to 4 lane will dramatically reduce the number of accidents along this route, so I am all for that. It appears some people care more about wildlife being killed than humans being maimed or killed.

More and wider roads you build, more there will be traffic and positive affect will usually be temporary only.

  9. It would be much better if there would be good public transportation on the island. That would increase the value of the properties as people would feel more freedom to travel around.

Public transport is mostly for tourist so not the most important to the real estate investor as they have their own transport

Really..., mostly for tourists, Thai public transportation (not tuk tuk's, I think they are not actually public transportation)??

  10. Thought before that nation wide services would do the thing when needed English speaking ("decent" level) staff with some engineering/CAD education and/or experience, like JobThai, Manpower etc. Nope, people sent beautiful applications and cv's, but when you tried to contact them... By email no answer through these services or straight. By phone unbelievably difficult; first couple of minutes usually tried to explain who you are and why you call them, about half of them just hang off the phone. Yes, I'm not native English speaker but think it was not the point. And no, I don't speak fluent Thai either (but after these 8+ years living here can communicate a little).

Probably no more than couple of 10 of job seekers who send application shows up. Small, not well-known companies like mine doesn't necessarily get that many applications at one round...

  11. "The traders responded after consumers filed many complaints to the department about high prices at their food courts."

But ...they always seem to have enough money to pay 300 baht for a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts. The line is always long and never seems to slow down. Perhaps they need to add gross amounts of sugar to all of their food items.

And very, very many of them have enough money to pay around 50 baht per serving several times a day, and then leave at least two third of it uneaten on table, "Mai aroi!", day after day. Or to buy soft drinks or coffee containing ice 90% of it for 20...30 baht, have just a sip and leave mug on table.

  12. This issue has been there messing more or less all the time, today was quite bad; opening certain folders incl cad files caused crash right away. So, decided to try to search again help from net and found from social.technet.microsoft.com forum:

"1. Download ShellExView v1.41 from the following link http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.zip
Please Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.
    2. Extract "shexview.zip" file and open shexview.exe. It will scan the registry for all the shell extensions.
    3. Select all the non-Microsoft extensions in pink by press "Ctrl" in the keyboard.
    4. Click the "Disable Selected Items" on the toolbar and click Yes.
    5. Restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved."

Accomplished, and so far, after about 30 min exploring no crashes.

  13. OP, they treat the environment as they treat their own houses.

Can't speak for the rest of Thailand but where I live in Issan kids and grownups have no idea of what a dustbin is.

Just throw everything on the floor.

May be they are concerned about feeding the ants and cockroaches.

I guess I'm the only one. My wife is a neat and clean freak. She gets home from working 12 hours and sweeps and mops. She says I don't do it to her satisfaction.

I do the dishes. If she finds a spec on a glass or plate she re washes it. We have 7 brooms and 4 mops and she uses them all.

Her family is the same way. They are not high society. Her father was a government employee and her mother made beer for the village.

I've never lived with a dirty Thai woman and I've lived with a few. Our homes have always been clean.

I feel for all you guys but didn't you know before you married them?

Yep, homes are clean, clothes smell good and hair is like on commercials (everything nice except yard or street where we just throw all the garbage from window. Seen it as everyone of us; to the very own yard, or to the corridor of condominium. Three times a day room cleaning, and all the s*it just out of door or window. And there is the s*it, from napkins to food left overs, three times a day at least...)

  14. I did already some research about problem with Explorer, and most probably it's conflict between Windows and some program version installed. But, I don't know exactly how to find out exact file or program causes it, all solutions found so far are for a symptoms described a little different. So first will remove programs don't actually need at all, and do some cleanup in general. Time for that anyway because especially start up is getting slow. Also will clean dust and s*it from inside, sometimes think whole thing is running hot, which causes problems.

If these don't help significantly, it's maybe time to reinstall Windows and software needed, quite a job but after that usually works smooth again.

  15. If the data was important then it's God's way of telling you to backup your files next time.

Not matter of life or death but would like to know why and how to fix, because could happen again. Restored copy from backup, couple of weeks old so it took only minutes to copy newer data from one of "save as" files saved earlier and still can open and read.

Sorry, but could you explain this in a bit more detail?

    - You restored an older version of the file (couple of weeks old) from backup. Opened and displays correctly.

    - A) copy/pasted in a bunch of raw data cells, or

    - cool.png copy/pasted in a bunch of raw data and formulas into the spreadsheet, or

    - C) imported data into a blank section of the spreadsheet

    - Saved this file, closed then tried to reopen and

    - D) program prompted me for a file password I never set (just like old file did before the recovery), or

    - E) program throws up an error that reads: (error here)

File restored from backup works fine, only had to add data manually as copy/paste not allowed from corrupted file. Can't open original at all anymore, copy saved before from it opens but password required for all actions, including copying content of cells. All other excel files seems to work fine also.

Also, please let us know what type of PC, amount of RAM, amount of free space on HD. Laptop HP Elitebook 8560W, i5, Windows 7 Pro, RAM 4 GB, HD 500 GB, at the moment disk C (Win and programs) free space 130 from 234, disk D (Data storage) free 88 from 210.

What kind of crash are you having with Windows Explorer (file explorer) Crashes very often when exploring folders containing CAD files, rarely if exploring other folders. Happens Inventor or CAD open or not, just open folder and almost immediately "Windows Explorer has stopped..." (or something like that, my pc gives notifications in other language). Sometimes not right away but when try to for example copy files from these folders to other location.

  16. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

Try this...clink on Formula, a drop down box should appear and at the bottom is "Protection". click on unlock. Should be able to unlock the file. See if that works.

Not sure but maybe goes that way in 2010, didn't find "Protection" but only "Unprotect Sheet" on Review tab. I've been using 2013 only few months and there is still a lot of details that are slightly different to 2010 and I'm not very familiar with. Still, password required as in any other action, unprotect command was one of very first things I tried also.

    A few suggestions...

You might be able to upload and then convert your Excel 2013 file online (for instance in the older .xls file format). Several free file converters are available online, such as this one, for instance: http://www.freefileconvert.com/

If this does not work, I would suggest that you boot your computer on Hiren's Boot CD (or on a similar bootable CD where another operating system may be launched instead of the one that is located on your system hard drive, such as a Linux live CD or DVD, for instance).

After booting your computer with Hiren's Boot CD for instance, you may select the "Mini Windows XP" menu and launch this operating system (it's a "customised" operating system that ressembles Windows XP and that includes many very useful tools). The goal here is to not booting on your current operating system, thus bypassing (hopefully) any file locking by a program or a service that is running on your current operating system).

Then, you should be able to copy your locked file elsewhere (and even delete it later, after you copied it succesfully and checked that your problem is solved), on an USB flash drive for instance. Once copied on an USB flash drive, you should be able to open it (provided that the file is not corrupted) and edit it or convert it if needed using another computer if you still can not perform these modifications on your own machine once restarted on its current operating system.

Hiren's Boot CD is free and available here: http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/

I'll check this Hiren's Boot CD, for future needs, they for sure occur as computer is getting a little old and loaded with heavy software for modelling etc. This time I gave up, just updated missing data to old, recovered file and life goes on.

But here is other thing mentioned earlier, popup add that appears few times a day, screen shot attached. Have been there couple of weeks already, and can't find malware or virus causing it, scanners don't find, Adblock isn't able to block it, can't find it anywhere in Mozilla. It's not only annoying, but could be big security risk also. Does anyone know how to get rid of it?
