Thanks for the tip. I think I'll check out Thailand for 3 months, and then since I'm going to have to border run anyway, I'll hop over to Laos and spend some time there before I hop back.

I'm actually half Thai, and I want to learn to speak Thai as well as enjoy Thailand. (As well as learn Salsa and get my scuba diving certificate.) But now that you've mentioned it, I'll definitely check out Laos as well =)

Assuming you mean your open water Padi course the cost of getting this certification would be a minimum of 10,000 baht. In terms of what you want to spend on accommodation that works out the equivalent of 100 nights accommodation, or just over 14 weeks !

I wonder if there are any people who have recently visited Thailand who can boast this kind of spending on diving. Thats like 100 times the equivalent of one night accommodation on diving.

I imagine even the die hard diving enthusiasts out there would struggle to beat that !!

I just arrived home from 7-11 and bought 6 small cans of coke. There were 12 straws thrown in and it was in 2 plastic bags enough to hold a kilo or 2 safely. What is it with the plastic obsession and where do all these bags and things end up?

Rip the phone out of the wall, that usually will solve that problem, you may have other problems then but atleast it solves the one problem you really hate.

I think there were a number of people who stated that Qatar were selling cheap flights at Central World over the weekend, it was clearly stated that as usual with this type of promotion it was time bound, as it was with Singapore Airlines recently.

The poster might not have been telling the truth, as might the others that posted that they were able to take advantage of the offer, but it seems a bit far fetched that they should tell lies regarding a promotion in such a public location.

Though I don't want to get into an argument I can see the logic of that very different scenario, what I couldn't understand is why you got so upset when the other chap wouldn't upload his ticket details, though I admit that I didn't read what he said, when his was an in store promotion rather than online - where you have to punch in the dates.

Got an iphone, great phone but not campatible with just about any other phone or computor!

so thinking of changing to the samsung d880 twin duel that im told can have both on at same time, reasons for this are

have my thai sim in phone,

then buy a new special sim on internet package of 1000 1 month unlimitedv internet dial up, to bluetooth to my acer laptop!

now that would solve all problems internet etc?????

has anyone got d880 conected to computor and is it easy, stores tel nos etc easy dial up internet via blooth, charges from laptop via usb that general stuff

No do not listen 2 him he doesn't know. I just bought one and it is by far the easiest phone i have ever used and was over the moon to replace my quirky Motorola Krzr. If you truly need a dual sim its the perfect phone easy to use with a 2.4" hi def screen and 3mega pix camera. As I'm just putting links to the sites of the organisations I thought it would be the organisation's responsibility to work directly with the volunteer on work permits and the legalities. I'm just trying to cut down on the internet search time for voluntary work and I'm definately not saying don't get the right documents. Would I really be responsible if the organisation and volunteer don't work this out between themselves?

I also rented the room next door to put the motorbike in.

you can get a tiny fan room in bangkok for 200B a night, more or less.

try the khao San rd of course, but its going upmarket.

and try around Soi Nam Duphlee , in the Sathorn Rd, Rama IV corner area.

good luck, it can be done and be enjoyable as well.

one of the best times i had in thailand (a while ago) was in 100B a night GH in Nong Khai.

I have also found some that were negative, however they were from the middle aged single people who seemed to go there expecting the world to revolve around them.

i stole this from another poster but it may help if your crazy enough to follow through

one of the cheapest ways to travel Thailand is to 'Homestay' I'm sure you can Google it. It's usually 100 baht or so a night and you can have the Mum of the house prepare you meals for about 150 baht a day. It's an interesting way to experience real Thai life. usually homestays are in a 'normal' Thai family home and you sleep in their house. Good luck at finding your roots

You are correct in your assumption, I have only been to Thailand when I was much younger, and I don't remember it too well, however many of my friends and family regularly go on holidays there, and I have read numerous posts on other sites about people moving to Thailand and enjoying life. I have also found some that were negative, however they were from the middle aged single people who seemed to go there expecting the world to revolve around them.

Okay ,well you sound determined so a few things to think about. firstly if you are going to work you will need a work permit. I have never seen a farang pot washer/ cleaner etc. Where do you plan to stay on $5 a day? Do you plan on eating whilst your here? water is free but a bit suspect but I know people who drink it. sounds like your gonna have a ball. Good luck

why would she want to set him up here whike touring? cant really see the benefit. A set up at home would be different as my unfortunate best mate found out. He was no Angel for sure but never laid a hand on her but she called the cops and had a restraining order carried out giving her possesion of the house (they had 3 kids) and got the lot in the end
