The embassy should based on verification of pension providers just issue the statement that "person so and so is receiving an annual retirement income of XX amount converted to THB".

Believe PSI offers the most HD channels but GMM also has a handful. GMM also has pay options for additional channels but using for C-band will get about 200-220 without paying. For us GMM seemed the best option with 5 box needed and ability to use either C or Ku bands. Have since bought one HD box to allow USB stick on TV without that ability (actually you can also record with the HD receiver to thumb drive also). The GMM HD box can be bought with one year gold package for 2,500 baht from 9sat so if intending to pay package anyhow make it only 1,000 baht for the box so good value. They also provide first month free viewing of there 4,500 baht package when you activate the combined Gold package with box and from what I have seen posted allow paying difference anytime during the one year to upgrade so seems quite fair policy. For us the picture quality of sat transmission is so much better than what we ever received on pay analog cable systems here in Bangkok having HD is not really a concern.

In connection with Euro2012 I had to get the GMM box and install one more dish.

I have TrueVisions already.

In connection with English Premier League I then had to get CTH meaning one more dish, however, we got one additional box for the bedroom.

Re Grammy. After Euro2012 finished there was basically only Thai channels on GMM plus a very few English movie channels. GMM has improved since then.

Last week I upgraded to the GMM HD Box and with it was a one year free subscription of the Gold package and one month free subscription to the Platinum package. Cost of the HD box = THB 2,999.- plus one more box foc, the GMM Mini Box. So included in the Gold package is also German Bundesliga football.

The upgrade to the HD box was actually a good deal.

You can buy some monthly or yearly subscriptions by calling GMM and then pay at 7-Eleven.

Re TrueVisions. I have no complaints about their service. If anything wrong, they come and fix it unless we can do it over the phone.

Re CTH. Most of it is PayTV but they do have some good channels, such as SkyNews. The only reason I subscriped was due to EPL. About their service, initially they were very poor as they did not know how to handle many installations due to EPL. Their billing system is also in a big mess at the moment.

So what to recommend ? The cheapest solution must be GMM followed by CTH and the most expensive TrueVisions.

Programming wise - TrueVisions despite the repeats/recycling of movies.

HD quality all 3 providers - very good.

I was at Bumrungrad Wednesday and they do have one unit at the small shop in the old building on 1st floor. The price was around THB 6,000.- if I remember correctly.

I called True Visions this afternoon to ask for the new HD channels, since I already subscribe.

First of all : When I called the first thing I was exposed to was 1 - 2 minutes of advertising for their new HD instead of press 1 for Thai, 9 for English and 0 for operator. So already at that point you start to get annoyed.

Secondly when finally came to press 1 or 9, then the 9 did not work, so I was directed to I do not know what. The person could not speak English, however, my Thai is reasonable OK. Finally he gave up and asked if an English speaking person could call me back. I agreed of course.

Since that took some time, I called again, same procedure as before, but this time the person who received the call was very rude and hung up.

One more try. I got hold of the guy I talked to first time, but in the meantime I received a call on my mobile and that was the English speaking person.

What transpired from that was:

New channels not available to satellite subscribers

True Visions do not have the hardware or available channels to go one step up into HD

Finally they have to find a satellite !!

I explained to him the bad point when calling about the advertising for 1-2 minutes for something that some subscribers cannot receive. He would tell the marketing people accordingly. Absolutely wrong people as I think they came up with that idea.

I also complained about the high price and the drop in quality and so forth and of course he cannot do anything about that.

So have patience, but do not call them.

The four commissioners travelled to Denmark and Iceland to check on the preparations for the June 26 advance vote being held for Thai expats.

With a population of 300,000 plus, I wonder how many Thai expats in Iceland ?

As for Denmark, there are quite a few Thai there, but I assume the embassy in Copenhagen is capable of handling this.

Quite a number of farangs in the survey are married to Thais, some 40%, so technically it is possible that they own a house in Thailand, so 36% is not impossible.

Re the coffee channel. I forgot to mention that once I asked True when they would introduce more HD channels. They could not reply to that. I complained about the coffee channel saying it was absolutely ridiculous, to which the reply was "It is very popular among the Thais".

As mentioned the "Coffee Channel" is a joke. They show exactly the same thing on channel 60. The good thing about the HD sports channel is the quality, but also the previews and the commentaries. Now they have John Dykes and company warming up before the matches, relevant good commentaries during the break. This in comparison to the Thai warm up commentaries on True Sport 1. This alone is worth the while to subscribe.

It is now Sunday morning and I cannot find any news about the "solid evidence".

Without going through all the comments, then if I read it correctly, then Suvarnabhumi has the 5th highest capacity in the world and that is basically it. The sad thing is that immigration does not have the capacity to handle this.

If you have very expensive furniture you could opt for insurance, however, the cost of this could be more expensive than the move itself.

Go for Santa Fe Moving & Relocation. Excellent service and very careful with your belongings. Can highly recommend. Used them from overseas to Bangkok and again internally in Bangkok. It is the biggest moving & relocation company in Asia. You might pay a premium for good service but it is absolutely worth it. Have a nice move.

Maybe you need some extra hardware ? I had the same problem and had to buy a separate DVD burner. It does not cost much. THB 1,750.- at Pantip Plaza.

I called Carrier, who referred me to a dealer near my residence. The dealer came with a technician and I got 2 35,000 BTU units. They work fine and cools down the living room relative fast.
