  1. Has anyone come across geotextile fabric for sale in Thailand? I'm looking to line a rubble trench and so want to prevent soil infiltration.

Widely used in Thailand, there looked to be several square kilometers used when the new Bangkok airport was being built. This might give you some leads.

  2. The house I am staying in has low water pressure. There is a new large storage tank outside with a new pump. I was wondering what the max pressure is for the blue domestic water pipe.

See if you can find any writing on the PVC pipe. If there is something like Class 8.5 or 13.5, the number refers to the rated pressure in kg/sq.cm.

  3. 35m should be a safe distance away from a septic tank.

If your men encounter water when digging the well, they will normally install the concrete rings and then excavate below them. The concrete rings then follow the well down and if you plug the holes in the side of the rings, you will reduce water influx. The digger can also have a "drivo" pump down there to keep things reasonably dry when digging. If he drowns, you have sufficient water flow anyway and can stop.

There are numerous government departments that have water well drilling equipment - DMR, RID, DPH, ARD, RTA etc. etc. If you know any of these people and they have a bucket auger rig, the well can be drilled and the concrete rings installed in a couple of hours (and they can get the rig back to the yard before they have to share whatever you pay them with their boss).

    Check it out here.

  4. In 16 more years.

Is that in human or koala years and what is wrong with this picture:

    More Koala Facts

    post-42103-1233020734_thumb.jpg

    * Koalas don't live in families, but are solitary animals.

    * Koalas sleep as long as 18 hours a day and have a low-energy diet of eucalyptus leaves.

    * Koalas are not "drunk" or otherwise intoxicated by their leaves.

    * Although koalas obtain most of their water from leaves -- the name koala is thought to mean "no drink" in several native Aboriginal tongues -- they do occasionally drink water at the edges of streams.

Happy birthday, you old drop kick.

  5. To calculate what size or model of pump you need, this site is very helpful. It takes a little practice but is a great way to examine different possibilities. Even if you don't use a Grundfos pump it will tell what size you should be looking for.

The direct link doesn't work mate :o Can you tell us how you got to the calculator, could be useful :D

Crossy, it works for me but try googling "Grundfos Webcaps" and see if you can get to it from there.

  6. lowest one off fee is 95000, annual fee to renew visan is 1900

There is no annual fee. If you wish to leave the country, there is a an application fee for a return entry visa plus the visa charge. There is also a fee to have the Alien Book endorsed every 5 years.

I'm struggling a bit on this "if you have PR why do you need a visa ??"

To keep the PR valid, you have to have a permit to leave the country. If you are not stamped back in again within 12 months the PR automatically lapses. I should probably have used the word "permit" rather than "visa".

  8. I've been looking for years too without much luck. I managed to buy a second hand shaper near Lampang once but the rest of the time it has been Bangkok. I bought a new lathe out of Russia a couple of years ago and it was cheaper than a comparable second hand machines out of Bangkok but delivery was terribly slow. One of the auction companies (Henry Butcher) sold a couple of old lathes from a tobacco plant in Lamphun last year but I was away at the time of the auction.

I am on the lookout for a universal mill if you see one anywhere while you are searching.

p.s. if this thread was in the Chiangmai forum there may be more response.

  9. Blinky, were you living in Chiangmai when Kamphaeng Din was not the chic and trendy address it is now?

I was doing archaeological research down there once and noticed that one place seemed to have more regular staff changes than its neighbours. This was unusual in pre-AIDS days and I enquired of the manager about his staff rotation practices. He replied "I change them when they are full". I was appalled by this statement but have since taken it on as a practical policy to manage one's smalls.

  10. I wanted one once for injecting a roast leg of lamb with Bundy Rum.

Playing God? This tomfoolery is akin to GM food research in my books. Pure careless evil. I approve.

If you'd kept the leg attached to the sheep, and injected it with the square bear before you roasted it, you may have bought the poor creature back to live another day.

    Unless that wasn't your goal.....

It certainly wasn't my goal. The poor little lamb had been ravished by a Kiwi sex tourist and could not live with the shame. She begged me to put her down - what else could a gentleman do?

  11. Do any of the Australians from Neil Pryde (Lamphun) or OnSmooth (Chiangmai - Rip Curl) wetsuit factories drink in your pub? Because of BOI restrictions I don't think they are allowed to sell in Thailand but they may have a "loaner".
