  1. My sixteen year old daughter (dual nationality English/Thai) is going to student abroad in a UK boarding school starting in September. Does anyone know the legal age for a minor to travel on an international flight? Are there any legal requirements for a minor to exit and enter Thailand. Any experiences/information greatly appreciated.

  2. I did this last year for the wife in the VFS office in Bangkok. The process was very simple and relatively painless. The only shock for me was that the VFS officer who checks the documents was not sure if we were submitting enough as it is 'up to the embassy' to decide if all the paperwork would be acceptable or not.

Anyway, filled in the online form and booked an appointment time.

We submitted, passport copies, id card, marriage certificate, house book, tax forms for her business, contract from my current employer, bank account details - funds and the like, children's birth certificates and finally a letter from me asking for the visa.

We had no evidence of hotels and flight tickets as we wanted the visa to enter as and when we need to enter.

Handed in the documents and she had a small interview.

Job done we left and the visa arrived a few weeks later by post - simple.

I should point out that this is not the first time that we have applied for a UK visa.

  3. I'm currently not in LOS because of working abroad. Anyway, I have a US dollar account with SCB and the other day they sent a letter to the house in Thailand and wifey read it. They said that the letter will be the first of 3 to enquire about the lack of activity with this account. After a 3 letters they will stop inquiring about the account and class it as inactive. But, what does mean? Comments please

  4. I'm wondering if any of the members have any insights into importing a scooter from the UK. I have a 1965 Lambretta SX200, but don't know how to start or even if it is possible. Also, if I can get it imported how do you go about getting it registered.

Thanks in advance for any information.

  5. Interesting, my daughter never had a problem getting Thai ID card in Hang Dong and she cannot speak Thai very well. In fact the officials just kept giving it the 'Luk Soway' bit and were more bothered if the picture was 'Na Lak' or not. As for buying, we have never had a problem as long as I signed the paper saying I have no rights to the land everyone is happy.

  6. I've been using an Arabic IPTV box for well over a year I use it in KSA and Thailand and it works perfectly. I bought it from Aliexpress and it cost around 100 US. I get around 60 English channels including everything you want HBO, Discovery, Nat Geo. EPL. It upgrades itself every 2 months and it works on an Android system.

I have an extension based on marriage which expires on the 4th October, but recently I have taken a job abroad so I have no intention of renewing this extension.

Anyway, I have just entered the country for a 2 week holiday and was hoping that I would get a 'visa on entry' for the 2 weeks, I'm going back on the 10th October, but when the immigration officer saw the re-entry stamp he said he couldn't issue another visa because this visa is still valid.

My question is this, can I get another extension to this visa for the remainder of my holiday or will I have to exit and enter the country on the 4th?

    Advice welcomed

  8. I went today and was very impressed with the speed of service and the politeness/helpfulness of the staff especially the girl on the information desk at the top of the stairs.. I had all the docs including the medical certificate from Klaimor. Did the colour test and paid just over 600 Baht for a 5 year licence. The wife told me that she will have to do a 1 hour video refresher next time because she is renewing her 5 year licence, I didn't because this is my first 5 year licence.

  9. What a nice country, I mean in my country you have to show that you have financial means to support yourself for 3 years therefore not being a burden on the so-called 'world class' national health service. In the meantime, you are attempting to get residency for your wife and making sure you don't fall below the financial requirement and more importantly not getting sick or losing your job. While, next door, a EU member walks in and doesn't have to show any form of financial means, but hey ho that's OK because . . . sorry rant over completely off topic, but I feel better now smile.png

  10. I'm on an O class extension based on marriage. I also have a multiple re-entry permit. I have been out of the country for 5 months and want to know if I can still use the visa extension when I return in 3 weeks. The visa extension is valid until October, but I was told that because I have been out of the country for so long it may be cancelled even though I exited on the re-entry permit. Does anyone know if it will be a problem?

  11. I also had a similar problem with a malware program. Whatever, I did, it just kept coming back.

Anyway, I finally got rid of it by searching the files on the C Drive and discovered another version of it hidden away in a different folder.

So, basically, I searched all the folders and looked for programs that had been loaded on the day and deleted the ones that I didn't know.

Anyway, 1 file wouldn't let me delete it so I looked in task manager and sure enough it was running so I stopped it and the deleted it.

    Result no more malware.

    Hope this makes sense.

  12. Does anyone know if Bompani has a service centre in Thailand, preferably Chiang Mai?

I bought one with me in the container when we moved to Thailand and its flame is Yellow and burns the bottom of the pans which I'm told is due to a lack of oxygen and I don't know how to adjust the flame.

    Thanks in advance

  13. Went into the second sat shop after Big C on the Hang Dong road heading towards Hang Dong today and they have the boxes in stock and they currently have 24 hour queue, whatever that means. They told me if you pay monthly (899 Baht) you have a connection/rental charge of 4258 Baht. They also have different packages based on 1 year subscription 11938 Baht. 2 year 19114 Baht and 3 year 24886 Baht all subscriptions payable up front. It means the final option works out at 599 Baht a month.
