  1. Trevor, I used to travel from Phon Phisai to Laos every Wednesday where my friend would buy birds of prey. We never had any problems. However, if a visa run was neccesary then obviously NK would be the point of crossing. So as far as I know, Whiteys are still alowed to cross for the day, but you cant go outside of the village once in Laos. Its not particularly well known that this is possible, unless you are an expat in the area. On a few occasions, I only had to flash the passport but most of the time was just given a nod of the head as my companion was the son of the chief of our village.

Marty, you'll see for yourself just how "not busy" Phon Phisai will get on the day. Your Mrs is putting things lightly!! no offence meant, but you wont be able to move along the river front.

I lived in PP for almost 3 years and things never change. Gets busier and busier every year.

Enjoy everyone if you are going!!

    Guemlum

hi guemlum, yes you are correct , :D after talking about how many people will come , she say many ,many yesterday it was only nit noy , we be fine you know how the thai are they say what you want to hear not how it is ... :o but as for crossing into laos the market days are tuesday and saturday but farang cant cross from phon phisai with any u.k or u.s.a passport i tryed with my multi entry O visa but they said i need to go to nong khai to cross not good when the P.P crossings by my side door !!! if your ever near here call in for a drink ...... martyn .

  2. Howdy,

I have been planning our next trip to Thailand and was thinking of entering through Laos. I have never been to Nong Khai and was planning to crooss over there. I could time it with the appearance of the Naga Fireballs (Thai: บั้งไฟพญานาค, bangfai payanak) in October if we wanted to. I have heard it is really crowded and alot of all night partying, witch I'm not really into nowdays.

I was just wondering if anyone has seen them, and was it worth the trip?

We have a place to stay outside of Nong Khai and looking forward to the trip. However, I hate to just stand in huge crowds waiting for hours for something that may or may not come :o and everyone in the crowd is drunk but me :D .

Anyone know if the party is as big on the Laos side?

Thanks for all replys, experiences, and sarcasm :D

  4. Step through has always been to denote a crashbox gearbox (semi auto, clutchless gears, whetever) for me growing up in UK and around.. Honda C90 step through.. That wasnt just a small circle of mates but I know thats my old mans term and many others too..

Perhaps this is a locality / nationality difference ??

hi livinLOS. the honda,s c50 c70 c90 were called BOG SEATS in England for as long as i can remember and step through were nothing to do with the gears they were all 3 speed semis .....

  6. Hi all,

I have a couple of nephews coming up for a visit in a few weeeks and we will be staying in Udon for a night or two. They are good blokes and its not their first visit to thailand but it is their first visit up North.

Does Udon have a "naughty" nightlife or somewhere for a young bloke to have some fun.

Since I have been married I just havent searched it out but I don't want to be left shuffling my feet when the night progresses that we are in town. Any recommendations? I know there are a lot of bars , are there any nightclubs, live music or disco type places?

  10. Hi all,

Its a fairly long way off but I will need to hire 3 or 4 cars for a week in October. Any budget rentals to be recomended. I usually like to deal with the smaller businesses than the multi nationals. We might also need a "people mover" van as well.

I plan to go to Udon next week to have a look around as most of the family are coming from Aussie and landing in Udon airport (Tiger Airways).

Any hotel or guesthouse recommendations are also welcome.

    Thanks

    Khun Andy

hi .... how much for the lot did you pay .. i am after a toyota vigo or a mitsubishi but not sure of price i,ll be paying cash but would like a 4 door .....

  13. i had same thoughts, but it was between vigo and d max, went for the vigo very happy with it, no regrets at all. i thought the Pre-Runner was the new version but not sure. mine is 2 wheel drive, i went for manual but wished i had gone for the Auto. Samui roads very busy a lot of changing gear, but personnel choice.

The Pre runner is a down spec version of the 4 wheel drive, but looks the same in ride height & general appearance. But as the OP required it's a 2 wheel drive.

hi sorry to butt in .....can anyone tell me the price of a new toyota vigo pre runner 4 door 2 wheel drive and is there a dealer near udon thani ..... thanks .

  15. Hi all,

I want to rent a house in Udon Thani - Life with the in-laws is getting to much!

How would one go about finding a place here? I know in Bangkok that it's just a matter of walking around, however I'm not so sure Udon is the same.

Can anyone recommend any newspapers, estate agents, web sites (Most look out dated from a G search) that have up-dated listings?

    I would appreciate any advice!

    Cheers!

fbi.com estate agents is in udon they have houses for sale and to rent

if thats any help to you ...

  16. Hi All,

I know this has probably been asked 1000 times before and I wanted to post this is in the Issan section not the property one where it will get lost.

I'm interested in finding out info from anyone who has built a house recently in Issan. Primarily I'd be interested in finding out what you get for your money, so pictures and approx cost of build would be very helpful. This will help me to decide what I can and can't afford.

If anyone also has any tips on what to do and what not to do (pitfalls, etc) then that would be most welcome too.

The house would be built in a village most likely near Ubon or Si Saket.

    Many thanks

  17. There's a little wire basket you get or can purchase as an accessory, that goes by your left knee (if a big guy like you has any kneeroom) that holds a few things. Hey, I thought everybody in Thailand hangs stuff from the mirror stalks - I do on my sportbike! The seat does have two underneath hooks to store two helmets from on beneath near. :D

The Spark is one of the few liquid cooled step-throughs. Ours has a manual clutch, but it's still a four speed.

If you get 33 km/liter on a Phantom 200, you should get a lot better with the Spark.

CBR150 - "your sportsbike". Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahah :o Thanks for that, I've not laughed so much in a longtime. Hahahahahahahhahaha.

When do you know that you've been in Thailand too long...

When you think that a CBR150 is a sportsbike.
