  1. Just thought I would update this thread a little,I am now at the airport and have tried to get wifi in different location throughout the airport and have had no problems. Now I am using true wifi which is good speed wise.

    Is True free?

The whole fun of Wifi is if it's free. When I was there, I found few free connections. The best was near the Muslim prayer room. I think it was called Limosine C3 or something. Fast and free.

  2. Another vote for the food court on the lower level. Good cheap food if you like to eat at the typical Thai food courts. Avoid the restaurant on Level 5 at all costs. Nothing but way overpriced food.

    Burger King Combo:

    Pattaya: 100bt.

    Airport: 250bt.

Having said that, you know you'll pay it when you're hungry... :o

  3. The food court on the bottom level is fantastic and open 24 hours. It's full of airport staff in uniform so enjoy the food and the eye candy. I would recommend you go down to the lowest level of the airport which I believe can only be accessed by those conveyer belts, not the lifts. Then keep walking to your far left past the tunnel of the women's toilets and there you will see a small opening for "Food Point."

Buy your coupons and enjoy your last Thai meal away from the stressed hurried tourist riff raff on the upper floors.

  4. You think a nine month overstay was worth the gamble vis à vie getting stopped by the Police and getting slung in the Immigration Detention Centre. :D

    The mind boggles. :D

Yep, worth the gamble. I've lived in Pattaya already a few years so I knew the chances of being caught were very remote. Either way, I was prepared to do it because it would allow me to stay in Thailand. IF I were sent to IDC, I'd get deported and pay a fine but could always return (the stories about Persona Non Grata are urban legends). I've heard from others that farangs get better treatment than others in IDC and if you have the $, it's a temporary stay of usually not more than a week at most. I was prepared for all this and waiting for it to come. Going back to my home city in winter would be worse than jail anyway. Right now it's 10 degrees or less at night and I really miss Pattaya (for the weather at least...)

In the end, I walked up to the overstay counter at the airport, paid my 20k, and boarded my flight with not a care in the world. Oddly, I had to transfer my expired visa from an old now expired passport to my new and I went to BKK's immigration office (Suan Plu) to have the transfer done. They did it in the blink of an eye and I walked out of there even though they knew I was on overstay! Wow.

I would never encourage anyone to break the law but I didn't get all bent out of shape about overstaying. Well worth it for all I experienced and gained out of it. Best of all, no visa runs! :D

Oh my you sound so smart indeed...

But it is people like you who turn things difficult for people who stay in Thailand legally.

I suggest you look for a proper and sound way to stay in the Kingdom.... :D:o

    anyway cheers

Nothing difficult for anyone if they have the right paperwork. The govt are more than happy to take my "20k let me out" fee. For my age and financial position, the only sound way to stay in the Kingdom was overstay and it worked out just fine. I was prepared for whatever doom may have come my way but the odds worked in my favor and if I were considering another long Thai stay, I would probably do it again. Still better than winter n my country!

Anyway, I find it hilarious that all the do-gooders enjoy speaking down to those that thwart the law that most farangs complain about: the visa issue. Victimless offense IMO. While I always kept the overstay story to myself, I was approached by many over my 9 month overstay who confessed they were overstaying as well. Mai pen rai.

  6. Just left Pattaya after 9 month overstay. Every day I prayed I didn't have any accidents or get stopped by police or have a spot check at my apartment. I think it was worth it to overstay. I didn't have the means to fly to Penang to get back to back tourist visas every 3 months and I'm under 50. Beats going home for winter where I am now.

  7. i'm now sleeping at the airport. typing between sleeps. the muslim room has carpeted floors. the massage room has some nice plush chairs if you can convince the girls to let you sleep there. i've seen some padded chairs linked together which would be ideal. as for me, i'm sleeping on the floor near some washrooms. it's very quiet here on the 2nd floor.

as a good time killer, visit the website of your airline. on my flights for today, i was able to choose my own seats. looks like i've got the aisle to myself so far!

You generaly have a seat for yourself on most airlines.... :D

Who are you flying with ?

I flew with China Airlines. As I said, I went to their website and clicked on "e-checkin" where I could give them all the info that they normally would ask at checkin. Best of all was seeing the seating arrangements for both flights and then picking which seat I wanted most. Can change that as often as you like. I made sure I had an empty seat or entire aisle in both cases! Now if it only indicated which passengers were babies, then I'd really be happy choosing my seat :o

Thanks to a pharmaceutical I'm fond of before flying, all I remember is being woken for meals. Each time I'd wake up, the food tray was gone and my tray up. Then I'd wake up again, eat the hot food, the fruit, maybe the little cake, and the bread which was all downed with apple juice before passing out again for many hours. PM if you want the reference and location to buy this sleep aid (legal).

  8. When you hit the airport, there are many signals that give an excellent connection only for you to find out when you select it that it's a pay subscription. After immigration, there's many cafes with connections, just ask for the password.

  10. Just a thought. Wouldn't you get a better rate in the city rather than the airport anywhere in the world :o ?

In BKK they afre real banks changing money not money exangers.

They are online and apply the same rates as any branches of the same bank around the country.

Does the airport xchange banks have different rates than city banks? I want to get rid of my baht but don't know where's the best rate or is it all same-same? Thanks.
