  1. Has anyone tried this ? there are so many universities around where I live and so many students would probably be more than happy to make some extra money (teaching Thai or Computer knowledge, be a personal assistant, driver, nanny.....whatever is possible).

Can a non-university person, and, even worse: A Farang, post such messages at any blackboards of universities ?

how to do that ? whom to contact ?

would be nice to hear about any such experiences and how she/he managed to do it. unfortunately, I dont speak Thai, so I would only be able to deal with people who understand some english there...

  2. as I have to know some HTML in the near future to qualify for some better-paid work and some interesting projects, I am in need to learn some HTML.

I am a NEWBIE with that. computer literate mostly, but that HTML-thing always scared me away....

any recommendations where I can learn ? I have to pay by myself, so it should be affordable. A Thai Comp-school where they speak english will do.

Maybe I would even take some other classes to get some more COMP-skills.

prefer group learning (which would be much less expensive, I suppose), but will consider 1-1 as well, if I can afford it.

Located in BKK, but, as I can do most of my daily work on my laptop, could even go to any other place in the Kingdom if its worth it.....

  3. one reason why I did not fly GULF since 2004 is, that u will earn only 25% of the actual miles on ur FF-account on cheaper booking classes.

Emirates, Qatar, Etihad: they all give u 100% in any classes and if u fly to Europe at least 2 times a year, u will usually be able to get a free ticket within 3-5 years.....

stupid, narrowminded management at GULF: now u pay the bill.... :o

  4. AirAsia has Promo-Seats to KRABI (as well as to UBON) at 99 Baht one way for July and August (though, most cheap August seats are already taken, but still plenty in July) , but hardly any FARANG knows, as this was only published on their THAI LANGUAGE website ;-)

  5. ah KRABI airport, thats a good thread for me now....

because, since I couldnt resist the AIRASIA PROMO OFFER yesterday and booked 2 flights at 99 Baht each for July to treat myself a relaxing weekend at the sea, I have another question:

are there any Minibuses going to AO NANG ? I heard there are some cheapo-options by Minibus to Krabi town, but what about AO NANG ? only the rather expensive Taxi at around 500 Baht ?

and is KRABI town worth to stay one night ?

  6. when I arrived in BKK in 2004, I stayed at KING ROYAL GARDEN INN, which is directly IN FRONT of the SURASAK BTS station (even if it rains you wont get wet as the staircase leading to the BTS-station is less than 10 meters away from the appartement's entrance door).

as far as I remember, it was around 13.000 a month. No luxury, though, but the location was more than perfect for me. they do have a laundry and on the ground floor there was a nice daily lunch-buffet at 39 Baht provided by the neighboring small streetside-restaurant.

I planned to stay there for just one month, looking for a longstay-appartement or house, and ended up staying there for almost 4 months....

friendly people and no cheating with deposit or electricty bills.... got my deposit back without any problems when I moved out...

they advertise in BKK post almost daily, their number is 02-6758120 or 02-861220 or cellphone: 081-8217118 and 087-0220556 (information taken from their BKK-POST-ad just one day ago)

  7. can you tell people in WHICH internet cafe this happened ? just to help others avoiding the same fate.....

and did u tell the staff at the internet Cafe ? maybe they are not even aware of those problems.....

OFF TOPIC, but: it would be a good idea to name internet cafe's where problems occur (such as that very well-known place in pattaya were they obviously have keyloggers installed at all computers and then steal ur credit-card data (as has been reported on some Pattaya-based news-websites, without telling the name of the place....)

  8. in case you are in BKK, then - I have to repeat myself - still by far the best option is BUMRUNGRAD. they are not free of faults, but in most cases u will get the best treatment and surgery there.

and their technical equipment is modern-as-modern-can-be.

and they employ most of the best doctors that can be found in the kingdom (luckily those top-doctors where involved in my case last year, otherwise I would not be able to write these words here anymore). though, I agree, there are a few doctors as well I dont wanna encounter again (but most likely in the AMBULANCE sector only), but the surgeons for sure are excellent.

if you are in Bangkok, then do your surgery there and nowhere else.

    GOOD LUCK

  9. when I created this new account not so long ago, a member quoted "now thats a dodgy nickname".

Well, now you know what I had in mind using this nickname when I created this account....

actually, this word-play appeared in my mind when the big "we, the government, block all websites we dont like for any reason" crackdown started, but even that government has been chased away, the new Junta is doing the same thing.... and who knows, even worse....

so, my member-NICKNAME is more "up-to-date" than ever....

  10. I dont think it will be successfull, because, in my humble opinion, 200 Baht for that is NOT " a laugh ".

I dont think many Thai people are willing to pay for that, and probably not many Farang as well.... (at least not me, because who gives a Sh*t about the seat on a 90 minutes flight..... except departing from Singapore, when there are stunning views of the island state to be had if you manage to get a "A" seat )

those who may need special assistance or care (such as parents with small children or elderly folks) are allowed to board the aircraft first anyway.....

by the way, there are rumours you can even book the permission to be the first passenger to use the toilet on board (when its still clean) in the future..... 100 Baht, what a lovely bargain for a safe p*e or a decent sh*t :o

  11. it would help if you'd tell the members in whioch CITY you want to start the course..... Hat Yai or Chiang Rai ? ;-)

Though, from ur profile I suppose the location would be GROONGTHEEP.

If so, I would be interested as well...... 2 years ago I started private 1-1 lessons, but it was not satisfying in any way..... I much prefer group-lessons....

PM in case u have any news to share.....

  12. in my home country you could donate used clothes to the red cross or charity easily. there were collections for that almost fortnightly. just pack it in the provided plastic bag that arrives in the mailbox at ur home sometimes, and they will collect it.

is it possible to donate clothes (used, but no rubbish !) in Thailand as well ? who would want it and who would collect it or where to bring ?

and would anybody have use for Farang size - clothes ?

I have quite some items I would like to get rid of, used but in good condition....

  13. I am not a teacher, but follow these threads anyway. and I am asking myself: Is the Thai society aware of what nonsense the government is doing (the Thaksin administration as well as the recent military government) by scaring the teachers away ?

I really wonder if this is a topic in Thai newspapers or TV.....

  14. they have the smallest legroom of all airlines in the world doing long-haul flights: 77,6 cm

if you are 175cm+, expect a journey same as a pain in the a*s.

and yeah , the service sucks, and only the basic food and drinks are free (beer is not for free).

as has been said b4, its actually a charter airline. I wouldnt fly them on a long-haul flight, though, their price for a one-way-ticket to Germany is unbeatable (except KUWAIT AIR to FRA, but they are fully booked at 99% of the time). and they are EXTEMELY STRICT when it comes to luggage weight (almost same as airasia).

but u can buy their LTU-card before (35 Euro, if I remember that right) and then u will have a 30-Kg-allowance plus reservation of seats free of charge....

  15. why u wanna book the ticket NOW when u plan to go to Thailand in OCTOBER. October is low season as low season can be, and its nonsense to book so early as there will be plenty of promotions later in the year, but certainly not before August/September. Why wanna fly from Gatwick and not LHR ? any connecting flight ? LHR would give u much more options....

  16. the Bumrungrad Hospital has excellent equipment. I had to undergo such screening less than a year ago in two different cases and can highly recommend it (though I know they sometimes get mixed reviews, but for the SCAN I think they are by far the best option in Thailand).

    Not cheap, though.....

  17. I had the same problem on my balcony in BKK!! They were making a huge mess, coo-ing half the night, and even built a nest and laid some eggs!

    What I did was this:

    • Bought some fishing line (cheap!)
    • Dug up a bunch of old CDs I would never use again
    • Hung the CDs on the fishing line from the ceiling of the balcony, so that the CDs dangle 3-5 inches above the spots where they would perch and sit (on the aircon units, on the light fixture, on the floor in the corner, etc.)

It worked like a charm! They have not been back since! Apparently the shiny discs turning and and swaying in the light breeze really annoys them.

Of course, when people come over and step out on my balcony, they wonder the the fkcu is wrong with me.

    Good luck!

would u mind to take a picture and post it here ? seems many members have the same issues with those rats with wings...

  18. His assailants reportedly included the son of a local politician. Police will seek arrest warrants for suspects.

    :o:D

I think this smiley is more than unsuitable in such a case...... and a MOD does that ? can't believe it....

  19. I dont think nonsense-replies such as "I think you are a troll" (the OP has made hundreds of posts as a member here already !) does help DAKHAR a lot..... I wonder why such people dont just keep quiet if they have nothing useful to say.

Dakhar, I have made very mixed experiences with the Thai healthcare system, but as well some excellent ones, otherwise I wouldnt be sitting here anymore and be able to type this. your best chance to encounter some qualified doctors is for sure at Bumrungrad or Samitvej Sukhumvit / SriNakharin, BNH hospital and Bangkok Hospital.

why did u not go to those places which have a good reputation and are used to deal with foreigners ? in ur case, where u want to do a complete body / blood - check, the Bumrungrad is certainly the best idea. definitely not cheap, but u have only one life, haven't you ?
