Hello
My overseas bank just sent me a letter advising me they need me to supply a TIN for Thailand, it is an international requirement.
I live on the ourskirts of Chiang Rai.
Could anyone please advise me where the Tax Office is in Chiang Rai.
Also if anyone has had any experience on obtaining a TIN, document requirement etc.
For Document the only one I seem to struggle with is proof of residence, I stay with my girlfriend at her house.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers

ok
Fyi if they didn't require the 800,000 i could have saved a bundle ????Many thanks for the professional advise from all people who posted.
For information I am now committed to going to Singapore on Monday to get a type O visa
I checked on the Royal Thai Embassy visa info page
https://www.thaiembassy.sg/visa-matters-/-consular/types-of-visa
The type O visas are as follows
- Non-Immigrant Visa-O-A (Long Stay)
- Non-Immigrant Visa-O-X (Long Stay)
- Non-Immigrant Visa-O (Thai Spouse)
I am not married, so what type of type O do I need to facilitate a retirement visa when I return to Thailand.
Once again any advise appreciated

Hello
I saw a headline in https://thethaiger.com/
https://thethaiger.com/news/national/paypal-will-still-work-in-thailand-until-the-end-of-the-year
As I understand Paypal was to revise its services on March 7th
From the Thaitiger report this has beto the end of the year
Is that as I wish to use paypay soon to send money to a overseas vendor?
Thanks

I received my New Passport Last year July and was not ready to start using this New passport. Possibly a mistake on my behalf,
Anyway as they say you are where you are, how to go forward?

Many thanks for your comments and assistance so far.
When I picked up my Second New passport last year from HM Passport Office Trendy Building Bangkok I declined the transfer letter as I was not ready to use my New passport.
So I need to organize the letter.
I found the British Government webpage for this :
Their WEBFORM link does not work so this was out.
I then phoned the British Embassy in Bangkok, Their Consular Services connection gives only a repeat message and the option to speak to an operator does not work.
By trying all the other options i managed eventually to speak to a man who gave me a telephone number in UK that gives 24 hour advise, Same repeat messge but it did say you have to put a credit card number in first to get a question addressed.
Overall regarding the British Embassy I got the impression they seem unwilling or unable to assist with any thing like this.
So I put this option on hold as I was not hopeful of them solving this problem.
Next option was to try to contact HM Passport Office Trendy Building Bangkok. Their letter only gave a UK telephone number, whilst I wanted to speak to them to ask advise.
So no letter so far or clarity on how to get this.
As I live up country best scenario for me would be to have whoever post one to me by EMS.
Any comments / advise appreciated.

Hello
I am due to renew my Retirement Visa shortly.
As my old passport is nearly full I obtained a new passport.
Do I need any documentation for immigration to use my new passport for the renewed retirement visa.
I did some research on this forum and it seems the embassy should issue a letter to transfer a visa. My activity is to obtain a renewal so I hope I do not need this letter.
Thanks in advance for any advise.

Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong forum, it is partly related to Thaivisa.
I have lived in Thailand for about 35 years using work permits etc, now on a retirement visa.
I have been with my girlfriend for 35 years and have not got married as I heard she will lose rights to own land / property.
My girlfriend has a house and small fruit farm in her name presently.
My first question is what rights do Thai ladies have when they marry a foreigner.
Can they keep ownership of land and houses they have owned prior to getting married?
Can they own new property or land after they are married.
All land and houses prior to and following getting married would be 100% in her name
Finally is it straightforward to change my visa from retirement to married visa?
For info I am 67 not married before
Any advice most appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Advice request on where and how to get a TIN, Chiang Rai area
in Chiang Rai
Posted
Hello
Many thanks to all who contributed to my question concerning TIN.
Let me answer a couple of questions raised.
Why do I need a TIN : My Bank of 40 years in Europe area sent me reminder letter based on my address with them in Thailand asking me to supply them with a Thailand TIN.
Why do they need it : It is a Legal requirement for Banks in Europe, UK, Switzerland etc to have their clients advise them of their TIN for their country of residence. If they cannot obtain it from their client after some warnings accounts are suspended and then cancelled.
Did I get my TIN : Yes, this morning from Chiang Rai revenue office, very helpful staff, needed copy passport, bank book, blue house book of my girlfriend. Amazingly they came back after a few minutes to tell me I already had a TIN from some work I did in Thailand 30 to 40 years ago. This was before the age of computers so their record keeping is excellent. They updated my address and corrected my originally recorded date of birth. They gave me my upto date TIN document, laminated. No charge. Excellent. So my Europe bank sorted and I can used my Laminated TIN for proof of address etc.
I also know to open a bank in UK now besides proof of address they with ask you for a TIN, failure to supply they will not allow a new Bank Account.
Hope this helps
