I have only flown the LA-BKK route once on the A-340. I bought Economy DeLuxe but was bumped up to Royal Silk after being delayed overnight in Denver. The flight was long but comfortable. For me, the space is most important. And the Thai A-340 has some of the best space in the business. Economy offers more space than some higher classes on other carriers. Before booking, check www.seatguru.com to compare seat pitch. This plane is one of the best for legroom.

Good pictures. I visited once and was also impressed with the ruins. A friend and I took the train to Korat, and took a bus to Phimai It's not that far, and it's well worth the time. Thanks for sharing.

I have found it at CarreFour. Less than 50 baht for a 1 litre bottle. I think it was 47 or 48 baht.

I really like maxi-scooters, but have not bought one....yet. But in looking at different articles, I ran across a review of the T-Max.

George,
Will this new FireFox allow us Mac users to once again view ThaiVisa? Remember your project to UPGRADE the system? It kept Mac users from using their preferred browser. I have not heard from you in a very long time. Your UPGRADE certainly was not one for me. I currently have to switch to Safari to view ThaiVisa. I still do it because I like the site, but it's a bit of a pain.

The Big Yellow Bus from Jomtien to the airport is great. The cost is now up to 119 baht, however (as printed on the ticket) but I didn't get my 1 baht change back. You get a bun and water, though.

They have a new CZ at the new Mityon dealer on Theppasit and Soi Korpai. It's on a stand, so hard to compare size with other Waves, but saleswoman said it's a "little" smaller. PLUSSES: 57 km/l (if that's accurate) and use of E-20 fuel which is cheaper. MINUSES: No electric start available. I get about 50 km/l on my 125i, 4 years old. A new one might get even better. They wanted 37,000 for the CZ and 49,000 for the 125i.
-
For saving, the Honda Wave 125i gives you about 3.3 kilometers more per 1 liter gasoline then its none fuel injection brother. The Honda Wave 125 is a excellent test subject for the benefits of fuel injections, as the Wave 125 comes in both Fuel Injection and Carburettor versions.
I tested my 3 year old 125i once, and got 50 km/l. That figures to about 118 mpg. The only other bike I have tested was a similar age Honda Phantom and got about 30 km/l.

I called the "English-speaking" Call Center of SCB and I am no more enlightened. I explained that I used an InstantCash card, which the helper thought had some bearing. He said it's either Visa or MC, but since the exchange rate is the same for both of those credit cards, I don't know why he was so interested. All visa cards start with numeral 4, and MC with 5. My InstantCash starts with the number 6. They admitted to adding a 20 baht fee. When I said the fee was NOT identified on the receipt, he asked if I would send a copy of my slips to him. I told him I don't have a fax. I asked if I went to an SCB branch in Pattaya whether they could help me. He said they would probably call the Call Center while I was there. Round and round. Pay more, get less.
-
I had just sent and received an email from my USA credit union and they said their fees are no different. I pulled the same amount out on June 11th and June 23rd....and the exchange rate was better on the later date. BUT, I had to pay US $1.58 MORE for the 2nd exchange. Even adding the 20 baht fee to the mix would NOT explain it. By the way, my SCB ATM slip shows no fee on either day. I will call SCB to find out if they can explain it. But even a new 20 baht fee would not explain my problem. BTW, I am using an ATM card from USA that is NOT Visa-branded. If I learn more, I will add the information.

I saw a review of a 150cc scooter on Motorcycles In Thailand website. Interesting as it has BIG wheels, it's automatic, and it has a 150cc engine. Anyone know anything about this, and when it might show up in Thailand? Here is the website from Suzuki:

I had a stent put in my circumflex heart artery last week in the UK fortunately under my private BUPA policy. I was previously planning on retiring next year and spending three separate three month periods each year primarily in Hua Hin. Subject to advice from my UK cardiologist I hope to continue with this plan hot footing it back to bkk/UK at the first sign of trouble in the future. I have done searches on this site and have noted Sheryl's advice on living no more than 2/3 hours travel time from bkk which is just about within the time it would take from Hua Hin to Bumrungrad on a good day and I have seen several references to Dr Visuit at Bumrungrad as a good cardiologist.
I would very much welcome any endorsements of Dr Visuit or recommendations for any other top cardiologists/surgeons in Bangkok hospitals fully equipped for dealing with angioplasty/bypasses.
Do people think I am mad to be considering Hua Hin as my base and that I would be safer in bkk or would that be taking unneccesary over the top precautions?
I will post for the benefit of the OP of the recent cost of stent thread the cost of my angioplasty with stent in the UK as soon as I am advised of it by BUPA.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
I'll be grateful for any costs you wish to share on this subject, when they are known. I'll also be interested to learn which Spire hospital you used and which Consultant you chose. Thanks. I don't know if it helps but Bangkok/Phuket hospital here in Phuket has a fairly new cath lab and claims to specialize in coronary care. I have one near neighbor who has used the service when he had a heart attack and subsequent angioplasty and he speaks well of the hospital and the care he received. I've met the head of cardio at the hospital and his English is excellent, a tad swishy for my liking but apparently he knows his field well. So, maybe Phuket is an option for you?
And you, Chiang Mai, are bit homophobic for my tastes. SWISHY: informal offensive effeminate. Hard to believe you are writing this while in LOS.
The intent was to describe, not offend and no malice or slight was intended. One hopes however that the Politically Correct brigade are not now allowed to influence postings here else we're all bug*ered.
I am pleased to know no malice was intended. I was offended, yet no apology was offered. I only wonder if you would choose an inexperienced doctor who was a "manly man" over an experienced physician who was "a tad swishy for your liking." I would choose a doctor based on his ability, skill, and recommendations.

How gratifying to know that at least one member is able to determine which motorcycle colour schemes are Gay, and which are Straight. In gender-ambigous Thailand, that must be a real gift.
-
It's quite amazing how discussion on the availability of Beer Lao can slip into anti-gay witticisms so quickly. It's not appreciated. Save it for your beer bar repartee, not a public forum.

The Phantom uses less fuel than my airblade and is fantastic. The best thing I have ever bought myself. Issangeorge
Has anyone done actual mileage tests on their bikes. Or just Thirsty or Thirstier? I have tested on my 4 year old Phantom and got 30 km/l and on my 4 year old Honda Wave 125i, I got 50 km/l. I would be interested in a comparison of Honda Airblade vs Yamaha Nouvo, too. Thanks.
-
I have a Honda Wave 125i, and then bought a Phantom. First thing I noticed were the "real motorcycle" rear view mirrors. Almost panoramic by comparison.
Not sure if the Phantom ones fit, or could be retro-fitted, but they are nice-sized, and made by Honda.

Back to the OP's original point; I have heard nowt about a new Nouvo, but would buy one (to replace my Nouvo) at the drop of a hat!
Bring it on, Yamaha (if that's who make them. Maybe it's Honduki or Suzonda?)
Mityon on South Pattaya and 3rd Road says no pictures, no websites, but they are getting the new model in on February 20th. Somewhat more expensive that current models, but probably 55-to-60,000 baht.

A friend went to a Yahama dealer who told him a model Nouvo with 135cc motor (same as Spark) is coming out in February. I have used Google and can find NOTHING. Anyone can help with info or a website?

Looking to buy a Phantom in good condition in Pattaya area. Good condition and good price are equally important. Lee

Another option is the online official Apple Store, the company store. At least good for comparison shopping...but they also offer free shipping. I think it's connected to the Apple site in Singapore, but it is considered a Thai store. It's http://store.apple.com/th BTW, Apple is up to 10% of all sales now as more PC people become enlightened.
