  1. or for .tmp (temp) files simply go to Start, Search, All Files and Folders. In the first box type .tmp

This will find all temp files and then you can highlight and delete them all.

One or two sometimes cannot be deleted but it is only 1 or 2.

  2. There are products on the market that can help keep the water clean - though I cannot remember their names, but bought where I purchased the fish. Same product also helps against white spot and other fish diseases.

yeah right! i bought these "products" in the market and several days later all my (approximately) 80 Kois who survived the last attempt were dead.

    :o

Sorry to hear that. The fish I left behind are thriving and have had young too.

  3. With an account at Siam Commercial and a branch in your own country, you can send a check to the branch in your country with a covering letter including account numbers and your signed authority. In the UK they have only 1 bank (London) and it cost £10 for them to process the cheque and transfer the funds to the branch in Thailand. Takes about 10 days in total.

  4. All I can say is that the ex stopped work as she worked 10 hours a day + travel time to/from work. Problem was after 3 months she was bored. Thai tv, some housework, and more Thai tv., sitting on the patio drinking iced green tea, calling in on relatives now and again.

Unless you have something to do, 'retirement' can become dull and lifeless. I feel you need a certain mind-set to be able to sit all day with nothing to do. Ask many retired people who potter about in the garden or similar activities. We all need a goal in life. Part time work is not so easily come by in Thailand, so to give her something to do, a 10 metre long hole was dug out the back of the house and she now keeps fish that she sells. This helps give her something to do and also gives her her own money. Also now she grows banana, lemons and has various other treesand plants she tends to and is on the committe for the local credit union. And all the happier for it.

Maybe your husband can see boredom for you in the future and that is why he wants you to find something productive?

  5. At the old place I had a 2 mtre wide * 1/2 mtre deep one for fish, lined with tile. and with two underwater spotlights. Made sure the pump had a big filter attachment with replaceable fibre filter lining.

I found that too many plants in the water will turn it green ( had 4 plants and reduced it to two - the two allowing the water to stay clean and only needing to rinse the fibre filter once every 2 days). With 4 plants the filter needed cleaning several times a day. If you can shade the pond, that will help as direct sunlight also helps chlorophyll grow and adds to the problem.

If you look at many restaurants they do not have plants in the water and said water is usually clean.

As for the soil itself, after several experiments, I put half in the pot and covered the rest with washed gravel. It stopped the sediment.

There are products on the market that can help keep the water clean - though I cannot remember their names, but bought where I purchased the fish. Same product also helps against white spot and other fish diseases.

Also bought a liquid that reduces the amount of chlorine in mains water. Used a spare barrel, added the liquid, then the water. Granted, chlorine will dissipate over time but sometimes had the need to use mains water same day so that liquid worked well. (Rain water is ok when it rains but, obviously, no rain = no rain water so is good to have an alternative.)

Remember to keep any new fish quarantined. Bought some that looked healthy enough but one or two died within a week of being quarantined.

Took a while to find the balance to keep the water clean. Now it is (was) a pleasure to sit there at night and watch the fish.

  6. Counter steering....to turn right you must lean right....to turn right quickly you must lean right quickly. If you just lean your body to the right you will slowly lean the bike to the right and you will slowly turn right but there is a limit as to how fast you can make the bike lean by just leaning your body. If you want the bike to lean to the right quickly then what you can do is to make the bike move to the left while you also lean to the right....the bike moves out from under you so to speak and the result is that the bike leans very very quickly.....after the corrct amount of lean is established you ease up on the steering force and the result is a very very quickly initated right turn.....think of the counter steer as being just the very beginning of the turning movement...something that just gets you leaning in the right direction very quickly..........it can get much more sophisticated than this though....if you find a road with a bunch of linked turns and you are going the right speed then the counter steer and recovery can set you up for the conter steer and recovery for the next turn which can set you up for the next counter steer etc.....so what you've got is a series of hard fast turns with a moment of seeming weightlessness between!!!!!!!!!!.........now we're flying!!! !!bouncing!!!! !!!!!!flying!!!! !!!bouncing!!!! !!!flying!!!!!!!. ........just don't bounce too hard and be sure you are flying in the right direction!

    Chownah

Sounds like some type of new wonder drug for heavy metal bikers ... brilliant Chownah :o

  7. I was shown a Thai 'log book' for a Mitsubishi 2 door 2.5 lit pick up and it showed the engine as a Suzuki.

Now, as I have never seen a red log book for a car before I was wondering -

    1) can you fit a suzuki car engine into a Mitsubishi pick up without too many problems - if at all.

    2) if, as I suspect they were trying it on when saying the engine had been replaced with a Suzuki or it was not the same log book as for the car on offer.

  8. This thread has been great to read, but I think it misses one defining point.

Hmmm will a western women ever talk to me again.

Thai women look after there men 100 times better than a western women would.

Now most western women may be up in arms over this, but it is a 100% fact. There obvioulsy are a few Thai women who do wrong no different to western women.

In general however Thai girls are miles on front of western women probably slightly over board, but I would feel most guys would agree on this :o

Thai women - that I have known - cook, clean, iron, bring a cold beer, take you to the shower and scrub your feet and generally care about their man. If a Thai woman profits from doing so, so what? It is good to have a woman who care and yes they are miles ahead of your average bra-burning western woe of man :D

  9. This topic is brilliant.

    Seem to have turned into.....

Bra Burning Terrorists V Macho Man :o

This topic has turned into a guilty pleasure of sorts, I must confess. Ah, I haven't argued like this since university!

Burning bras?! Do you know how hard it is for a girl to find the perfect-fitting bra? :D:D

It has been a while since I was asked to dress up in Bra and knickers so finding one that fits a girl or fits me is beyond the scope of my imagination :D

I do have a wonderful picture of some Bra Burning Terrorist in my head though. Shame I am no artist.

  10. So, today I went to the local immigration office to get a letter to say I live where I live in readiness to go for my Thai driving licence.

Accompanied by the Amphur's secretary, or whatever she was, to smooth the way and say I live at xxx address, the process took 30 minutes.

The g/f was expecting to pay the 'tax' of 20 Baht to the official on receipt of the letter. There was NO payment of 20 Baht asked for because the boss sorted it.

So, this evening I am sat by the fish pond with the g/f and talking about finances and payments etc and the subject of the 20 Baht came up.

She is of the firm belief that each of these 20 Bahts collected are not given to the government as a tax but kept by the officials in question who do the paperwork. These officials in turn give the big boss of the office half the money and share some of it around colleagues who may have passed the 'customer' on to them to do the work.

Seems it is the same at the local police station. When the g/f reported her bag and I.D. card lost in Big C she was surprised not to have to pay the 20 Baht 'tax' and deduced it was because she had a Farang with her. She says that all those 20 Baht 'taxes' collected by police officers are divided up in the same way as the immigration offices.

H3ll, if that is the case some of the bosses at these offices and police stations are on a very good earner!!! So it seems corruption pays all the way to the top... big bucks!!!

  11. Thanks for that.

I specifically asked about the interest repayments as I could have had the money sent from my own bank to pay the finance in the first place and could have paid that off in the same way without being penalised by interest rates.

It was the g/f that asked about the interest and early repayment (on my behalf) and her sister was there at the time. It was an agent of the bank that arranged the finance and I would not have signed knowing I would be penalised. But TiT.

So, we have been asked to go to the bank itself tomorrow to discuss the matter. I am reluctant to back down totally but am willing to reach some compromise on the matter and will have to see what is said.

I am unsure if Thai banks are willing to compromise or if I am likely to be butting my head against the proverbial brick wall.

  12. The purpose of language is to make yourself understood to other people. If you were from Newcastle and travelled to London you would find many people failing to understand you even though you were effectively speaking the same language.

If you travelled from the south of england to the north and talked about wanting a 'barf', would people know you actually wanted a bath? Better to change to pronunciation so locals can understand than stick with what works in your area and sound like a tit!

Farang or Falang is not important as long as the people hearing you know what you are talking about.

Strangeley enough, up North 'barf' is to be sick, puke, etc. So most Southerners would be given a bucket :o

As to Farang, Falang, I hear both words used by Thais

  13. If you have a bank loan to buy a vehicle over, say, a 4 year period and want to pay the loan off early I am wondering what the situation is regarding the interest payments.

Is the bank within rights to ask for 50% of the remaining interest on the contract?

So if I owe 200,000 Baht and want to pay that today can they ask for 47,000 Baht interest with 30 months left on the contract or is that not legal in Thailand?

On originally asking about this before taking out the loan, the banks representative said the loan could be paid back early with no interest penalties incurred. Would that constitute a legal agreement also here in Thailand?

Any serious answers welcome before I go see the bank tomorrow.

    Thanks.

  14. Hi. I have a photograph of a page from a bank type book. It has 7 coulmn headings and I wonder if someone could translaqte each column heading for me please, working from left to right.

Problem is that the writing is blue on a white background so may not be clear.

    Thanks

Hi as far as we can make out it is as follows,

    1) date/document

    2)Deosit,deposits,withdrawls,balance

    3)Emergency loan/amount/amount paid off/balance

    4)Standard loan/amount /amount paid off/balance

    5)special loan/amount/amount paid off/balance

    6)Interest/amount left to pay

Hope this helps its as accurate as we can get it,if you need any other help just contact me im in Nakhon sawan

Aha. Seems then it is for :-

    a deposits

    also

    b for payments

That would account for the fact that column 2 (deposits) goes up and column 4 (payments) goes down.

Thanks, I appreciate you taking the time to translate that for me. Has helped a lot.

I do have visions of many heads and peering eyes staring at the screen (red above) and had a good laugh at the thought of much scratching and splinters coming from those multiple trees of knowledge :o

  16. how do poor people who cant afford the huge payments for true watch football games? in the west, these games are run on free television programs. is football not a right? is it only a privilage of the wealthy?

I think watching ones own National football team should be a right ... in saying that, if you had to pay to watch England play then I think you should be given a refund!! :o

But a much better option is to watch rugby league and rugby union. No ladyboys there as they grab your testicles in a scrum and squeeze tightly, rake studs down your back and generally give and take as much rough stuff a you get.

Unlike footballers who roll around on the floor crying at the slightest touch :D

    edit...

Forgot to ask... wonder how many of you guys would like to be in a scrum with the Lady Rugby players LOL
