CW says at airport imm. to hand in all PR books, and PP and go to CW with a letter they will give you at airport, because I arrive back in TH after the date in re-entry before date.

Also is there a penalty for this or is it just cancelation of PR?

    I thought just PR gone.

How did this go when you arrived late in Thailand due to Covid , did you also have to hand in all PR docs @airport. Seem strange as how will I show ID if asked by police once in TH ?

Just be clear, I do not need a PR, I work and live in Europe, but it would be nice too get PR back for when I retire.

    Well a last update.

The immigration officer at S airport let me into TH based on an expired PR (date just before the covid waiver came into effect) however next day at CW PR was canceled, there is no fast route to re-apply as I am not working and staying in TH, they took all books back and made me sign a document that PR is canceled and that I had handed books in. As I did get a Thai Tourist Visa abroad, they told me to go back to the airport, after they looked up the officer who CW said should have refused entry on the expired PR. CW contacted the officer and gave me her mobile nr.  So I went back to the airport and the officer at the airport changed entry in my passporr to a Tourist Visa.

    Ending 15 years of PR.

So PR's are not for life....

If you are in TH, married to a Thai and working here: skip the PR and go for a Thai Passport.

"Just the PR gone" means an inch of documents handed in for nothing, waiting for years (6 years in my case) for nothing, and roughly THB 200,000 in official fees down the drain. Maybe it's just me, but I would consider that a penalty.

Well it is but would be worse if they add a penalty on top of it ????

when I got my PR it took me only 1 year at the time that was normal. The fee was 100k in my case.

    No lawyers.

Are you meaning after rather than before?

One of the key words being used by Division1 was that the extension of the deadline date (for PR holders) to return was the word 'indefinitely' (obviously meaning extended indefinitely).

I did at one stage snag a snr. Immmigration general at Division 1 on the phone, speaking perfect English, polite and pleasant. This was when I was getting panicky about 'has Immigration issued a final date for PRs to return, etc., and I was following every angle I could dig up to try to get any new info on the 'deadline to return date'

He commented 'PR is issued for life', and therefore does not have a final date, and the exit/re-entry stamp process/data kept is just a simple means of having some idea of how many PR holders go out and come back and nothing more. This is not really important data and therefore no need to be serious about it. (I don't know his name.)

Only problem I see is my re-entry expired before these rules came into law.

The only sr. immigration officer said that meant re-apply as I did not come under this exemption.

Another possibility is to call the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who are closely involved in these subjects:

There's plenty of advanced/perfect English speakers on 0 2203 5000, always good listeners, always very focused and good clear answers/guidance.

    Hi Scorecard,

Thanks for the advice. I will read the information you sent a few times.

I do see the date 26-3-2020 in your information hope they understand Covid was already ongoing in Europe.

My problem is my re-entry expired 4March 2020 so thats a  3 week gap, and my wife spoke to a sr. immigration officer at PR section at the time and he said because of this I do not come under this new law/regulation and will have to re-apply.

I will let you all know here how this goes once I get back next month.

For now I am going to get a tourist visa just be sure I am allowed into TH.

Also I have always thought failure to get back into Thailand before the re-entry expired was an automatic cancelation of the PR.

    Thanks all,

The original order on this subject (signed by the PM and the Interior minister) stated that foreigners holding PR could wait to return past the re-entry date in their passport and PR book, the order also mentioned that the Thai Immigration Bureau would eventually announce a final deadline date to return.

I've held PR for 24 years. Because of more complex health issues I was delaying my return. I was following this matter regularly, until recently, by asking Thai Immigration Division 1 (by e.mail) to confirm that the bureau had not made such announcement.

The most recent response I've had was on 21 Nov 2021, confirming that the Imm. Bureau had not yet made the deadline date announcement. In a couple of their responses to my mails there was mention that the deadline date was postponed indefinitely, but that could of course be countermanded at any time.

With a 'Thailand Pass' (TP) I returned to Thailand Suvarnabhumi, on the 9th of December 2021. As follows:

    - I arrived at Suvarnabhumi, joined the queue for the final check of all the TP documents. All checked OK within a few minutes.

    - Then to the Passport desk (Thai line). No other passengers present. The Imm. officer took my passport and PR white book and then quickly looked at me with concern and pointed to the re-entry stamp and said 'this has expired'.

    - His buddy quickly looked at my docs and said in Thai and English 'this is all OK' and at the same time he was calling a snr. officer to come.

    - Snr. guy, pleasant, arrived quickly, had a quick look and said to me in perfect English and also in Thai 'you can enter, there's no problem at all, I just need to get a code number' and at the same time he was on the phone.

    - Two seconds later he said 'I've got the number' and he quickly told his officer to use his 'Admitted' stamp and under the stamp he slowly dictated what to write. All done in 1 minute.

    - Officer returned the books to me and asked "where is your home in Thailand?" I responded Chiang Mai.

    - A little later I sent my Thai son a smartphone photo of the two (identical) stamps and the hand written comments.  His translation was 'entered under xxxxx waiver'.

How long it will remain open I don't know of course. Easy enough to find the e.mail address of Thai Immigration DIvision 1. My e.mails to them all in English, they responded within a few days to my several mails.

    Hope that helps.

I also lost my PR that had re-entry date of 4 March 2020 , Netherlands had already been hit by Covid.

So later the Thai extended the re-entry dates, however I understood this was only for re-entries expiring after 26 March 2020.

So now I am about to fly back to TH for a family visit, I plan to get a Tourist visa and have a chat with PR section at CW. What was the expiration date on you re-entry?

I think I am one of the few PRs who fall outside of the re-entry and will have to re-apply for PR and pay up again.

Anybody out there done this yet ?

    Thank You,

But yes I already had this information.

It does not say if a PR that expired early in March are included or only those that expired after the border closure on 26March.

Flights in Europe had already been canceled way before Thailand closed its borders.

I let my PR expire due to corona virus. The re-entry date was 3 March.

Will I get my PR back? As I see no date excluding PR lapsed before.

Seems like all sections of the flow chart show Visa's from 26 March onwards are included in the special corona rules,  except PR chart does not show this. Likely only those that could not enter Thailand due to the border closure will be extended for a year. We have tried to call the immigration several times but nobody answers the phone.

I would like to ask again if anybody has the PR contact phone number to send to me in a pm, Then maybe I can get an answer or influence them to include the whole month.

    Thanks.

  11. Hi, after renewing my Thai PR for the last 10 years living abroad (EU) I have let it go due to in part travel restrictions and risk of infection, as I know not returning within a year cancels the PR and this is set in stone. However I do remember a guy from the amateur radio club who was able to re-apply and got it back the next year.

    Paid 97k fee.

He was no longer working when he did this. Now my question is has anybody done this recently ? My guess a few others might be in same situation soon.

Do you need 3 years WP again and start all over ?

If so I will go for a Thai passport as I am married to a Thai.

It's not an urgent issue as I no longer live in TH but may return one day.

PS anybody got a phone number of PR section.

  12. If flying late at night I have sometimes been sent to the foreigners queue because the Thai desks had been closed.

    This included my Thai wife.

I have often thought using the auto gates could become an issue as I have no stamps proving I followed the rules leaving and entering Thailand but it would seem this is not the case.

However when I had the immigration officer put the autogate sticker in my passport she told me I had to come update my file with her if I got a new re-entry permit.

The sticker however is valid for a few years.

So does anybody know if I need to go and update my autogate details every year as I get a new multi entry every year?

One other question as I need to get a new passport next year. Does it take longer at CW if I bring a new passport and do they need the housebook this time?

  13. Hi guys,

    I have a PR.

So my next renewal of the re-entry permit is about to come up.

As far as I remember I need the filled out form.

My pasport that is valid for at least a year and the certificate of residence thats white in my case as they issued a new one last year plus the red police ID book and of course photo's and the fee. Right ?

My wife thinks I also need to hand in the tabien ban

I can't remember ever having doing that except maybe when I got the new white book ?

Or is it something new ?

I will do the renewal at CW.

  14. Okay did not know they do not return the blue book once they issue white book.

    Another question.

Using the auto lane with the chip reader to go thru customs.

I think the call it autogate.

Do you have to go to the immigration desk that issues these autogate chip stickers at the airport to update them  every year when you get a new re entry permit ?

At the time the officer told me each time you get "new re entry permit" must come update information at her desk in the airport.

I really do not understand how you could actually follow the regulations that require us to present both passport and blue resident book and have customs put the leave/re enter stamps in it.

What if I leave using the automatic gate and then on return for some reason am forced to go thru a customs officer. No issue if exit stamps are missing ?

    Guess its all in database.

Officially a new residence Certificate take 4 working days but they can be persuaded to do it in 1. They may need some encouraging....

I did it a few months ago. I think it took less than 2 hours.

    Happy New Year!

    Good to know this.

What office did this for you?

I will be going to CW again.

Did they allow you to request a new book with old one not full yet?

Or do they insist all pages to be used?
