  1. With equal respect, you could perhaps tell me where you think I'm mistaken; that's how forums work!

Well if your working and paying tax in Thailand you should be getting healthcare coverage , its not the 30bt scheme as they take about 430bt out your paycheck each month to pay for the insurance.

As long as you keep paying this fee you can keep it going even after the job ends till you reach retirement age.

As far as the 30bt scheme I think its great the Thai poor get this and it should be limited to Thai nationals.

Why should it be available to foreigners so it can go bankrupt like its going in the UK with all the medical costs for visiting EU members ?

Why should UK or Thai tax payers have to pay for foreign guests with pre existing health issues ?

So it is unfair to a foreigner who lived , worked and paid tax in Thailand for many years maybe they should be included.

But that group should be the only foreigners in the 30 bt scheme

  2. As usual they will just go after the 'small fish' and use them as scapegoats... The 'big fish' are totally exempt, because the law is only applied to the low/middle income classes... In Thailand the rich get richer, at the expense of everybody else. It's been that way for generations, and isn't likely to change, despite assurances from the PM that all Thais are treated equally, cough, cough..:coffee1:

    Well not only in Thailand.
In the western countries its only the middle class income people who pay tax. The lower income group pay almost nothing and the rich pay nothing at all.

  3. strange how there was a delay with the reporting of this story in thailand.

    Not just in Thailand.

There is a coverup of all the knife attacks happening all over Europe right now.

The attacks seem to mostly be muslims but the MSM and police do everthing they can to not call it a terror attack.

According to the press its all done by mentally disturbed people.

    Just about once a week.

Attacks are much the same as they have had in Israel for years now.

The coverup is clearly coordinated and they seem to first do a check on how much information is already known online as some cases it too late to cover it up.

There are many reasons I guess but one could be preventing escalation due to copy cats.

  4. These 5 hackers were known and still they all escaped Thailand!   Why?

I hope they can be located by Interpol  police and charged and jailed.

    Geezer

It took the bank some time to find out what had happend.
    Then they called the police.
Next step is check the CCD security camera's so more time lost.
By that time the gang left Thailand.

The bank and or police check with interpol. ID are now known.
Gang must travel on false passports as I am sure Taiwan has an international warrant out for them.

My guess the actual "hackers" never do the footwork and stay safely at home and have some other guys do the dirty high risk part of the job with remote support.
That way its new faces each time they hit a bank.

  5. let me guess, romanians ?

and this cannot be other than an inside job

otherwise, how did they know about vulnerabilities ?

reminds me of the series HEROES, where that one black boy had to power to talk to machines and could also make the ATM spew out money... maybe they were inspired by that

    Romanians I agree very likely

    http://www.wired.com/2011/01/ff_hackerville_romania/

    Its a business for them.

    Insider job. Not likely.

The have been hitting a lot if countries.

  6. I really don't understand what has happened here. The ATM is, as far as I am aware, just a dumb user interface. The user inserts their card which identifies an account to the bank the user then inputs a pin which confirms the account.

    So.

How did the hackers bypass the account system to gain access to the bank's money. Could they have invented a system for opening a new account via the ATM? No, because there is a requirement for the bank to verify the authenticity of prospective account owner at the human level. Also the account needs money in it to withdraw.

The bank say it was their money and not the customers so how does their (the banks) system manage to give access to corporate funds through an ATM?

    Its an inside job.

They do not need an account.

The ATM has money in it , all thats needed is insert a program into the ATM computer and let that program control the money dispencer part if the ATM so it starts giving out the cash. This bypasses the bank system...

Thanks for your post.  I might correct a couple of things based on my experience.  First, I received my Autochannel privilege at the Immigration counter at the far end of the airport (Check-in rows R-S-T).  Maybe it took longer than others, I can't be sure, as each situation is different, but I did in fact get it at the far end Immigration counter.  The officers were quite helpful but maybe it is up to the mood of the officers, too.

Second, the Autochannel privilege is NOT good for the duration of your passport.  For those that successfully complete the Autochannel Immigration process, the Immigration officer will affix a barcode sticker with your name and expiry date in the last page of your passport.  It shows your Autochannel approval and the expiry date which is two (2) years from approval.  My passport expires in 2025 so the  Autochannel privilege will NOT extend to the full-length of my passport.  I'll need to apply again if my passport book fills up (not likely) or in two years time.

My understanding is you have to go that immigration office desk  again each time you get a new re-entry permit so that's at least once a year.

  8. A seized up water pump does not always leak water. Had it on a Ford Ranger. No water loss. No leak. Stuck pump. Driving a car that overheats is a real bad idea.
Just saying do not drive it till problem is fixed.

When you start the cold engine does the temp. show low and how fast does it go up.

Swapping the thermostat is a good idea. Actually just take old one out and close it should also fix the overheating problem (as a test) but as its a cheap part just repace it

  9. it's not unique just to LOS.

I do recall it is no different in Malaysia, where no ferenghi cannot be in a business, unless it is owned by 51% or more by a Malay

In Fiji, the indigenous ran the (big-business-man) Indians out of town (many becoming refugees to Australia) , and gave it all to the locals

SudAfrika had countless property owners lose all their property, and often their lives, to the majority locals

Financial racism is a world-over problem

Yes , and how well these countries did after that.....

    Zimbabwe comes to mind.

And it's funny how the politicaly correct in West insist only white people can be racist.

For tax reasons it would be good if Thailand allowed 1 man foreign companies for digital nomads.

  10. ....after the fact.....

...they kill him......'Duhh he threatened us before'.....

    ..clearly premeditated.....

...anywhere in the civilized world.....minimum life sentence with no chance for parole......

No not in the politicaly correct north european countries. 2 years jail sentence and do about 15 months max.
    Nonsense.
Yeah I exaggerated being cynical about the harsh punishments handed down in the West compared to Thailand....

Actual average sentence for murder in The Netherlands is 14 years.

    Not Life.

    Not even close.

Of the 14 years you behave well you get out after 2/3 of the time.

So about 9 years for murder....

My point being"life" for murder, no.

    http://www.volkskrant.nl/binnenland/rechters-bestraffen-moord-nu-strenger-gemiddeld-2-jaar-extra-zitten~a3041652/

Murder a leading politician slightly longer. Get out after 12 years.

    Hardly a life sentence.

  11. It's probably not an exchange rate thing. It' probably just K-bank doing a manual (human) review of every incoming transfer before posting to your account and sometimes that human is not around to accomplish the transfer promptly. Whereas in the U.S./western countries it's more on autopilot/computer review with a human review by exception.

Don't be misled into thinking the Thai banking system is not as automated as those in the west. The main difference is that they can override the automation and execute the transfer when it benefits them the most. In the west, there are regulations that prevent this type of manipulation, apparently not here.
Every time I use a Dutch bank they do exactly the same thing.

They hold the transfer till the moment it benefits the Dutch bank.

From 3 to 5 days total time between my bank accounts every time.

They must override it every time.

I can see the change of the rates when I am giving the order online.

And see the rates when it has been actually transfered by the Dutch bank. The Dutch bank does this.

  12. You can not own land in Thailand, if you are not Thai.

This thread should be moved to the "housing, land, etc" forum.

Yes you can. Maybe its not where you want to live, but foreigners can 100% own freehold land in Thailand in particular areas.

Love to see some links to that on a Thai government site please. (Or a link to the Thaivisa thread about it)

For building a home on , not a factory owned by a big multi national in an industrial park.

Foreigners can buy land freehold on Industrial Estates Governed by the IEAT. As i said in my original post 'maybe its not where you want to live'- my post was pointing out that Shot's post was legally incorrect.

    Legally incorrect indeed I agree.

But for all practical purposes the answer to question of the OP is a foreigner can not own land in Thailand.

  13. I like to add that I have also have read online about being allowed to own land

2.3 Investment: Thai real estate law allows foreigners to buy and own a limited amount of land based on an investment of 40 million baht for five consecutive years, provided that the land is used for residential purposes.

    http://www.thailand-lawyer.com/land_purchase.html

So all you need is to do is invest 40 Million bath for 5 years , every year, so invest 200 Million bath....Yep

Still never heard of anybody actually having done this here on Thai visa in the last 10 years...

It's 40 million baht in total. You need to have a BOI company and the 40 million needs to be maintained for 3 years. After 3 years you overcome the first hurdle (so at this point the same as the 10m baht investment extension of stay).

However you now can only own up to 1 rai, it has to be in specified areas and it would help greatly if you were friends with the Minister of the Interior because they have to authorise each request.

Just to add, even if you got to own 1 rai, the ownership is limited to you alone. The land can not be inherited, and it must be sold after you die (ie to a Thai person).

A fantastic bargain, which is why nobody does it.

Only 40 Million bath its even cheaper then I thought.

    Indeed a real bargain :)

But as it stands not something open to 99.99% of the foreigners here.

  14. I plan to buy a house in the northern region of Thailand and would ask if anyone could advise me on the permanent running costs ...is there any yearly property tax land tax that have to be paid ? How the average council rates that cover rubbish disposal etc...the city I am planning this is lampang houseprice below 1 million bhat...the second concern that I have is about the ownership papers .. Will I be able to get a blue land book on my name and how to obtain it..my gf has this for her other house and I am on a non immigrant a-o one year visa...any ideas???

Buy a nice condo , that is possible on your name, if you do get married in future , get prenup , make sure it stays on only your name.
