Maybe  there isn't any younger "dudes" here anymore especially  in the quantities that would enable a proportion of them to be vocal or literate enough to  be involved in the forums.

Younger "dudes" that  rely on intermittent  jobs offshore and others staying previously on a tightrope  budget,  cannot stay here with the World, European and UK economy being what it is!

I also think that there  is an element of truth in what  "getreal" says in what I suspect though,  maybe an "Alter ego" of his true ID.

A way of saying something from his alter ego he could not  or did not want to say in his real Thai Visa ID  (Could be wrong and if I am I herewith apologise)

I think and feel that  previously the "Feel or atmosphere" of the forums where sort of "family orientated " and the rules exercised with a little more  flexibility, banter  and humanity than  is the case  now  but then again the times are changing and maybe in these politically correct charged times for the time being anyway  it is better to be prudent to the sensitivities of the people in charge in this Country than to make waves and risk ending what is for me one of the greatest platforms for any Expat in Thailand .

On a final word from me and I am no Arse licker as most will know if they have read some of my posts on the management of the forums.

The new version of the forum in my opinion is far better than before, whether it was borne of a need to accommodate more advertisements and thus make more income or to make the forums more readable and attractive to the membership and thus make more money, I  do not know.

However in all fairness I think that the new owners and management should be given some leeway and more  time to sort out the problems associated with the running of this very complex forum and  business.

Impatient and sometimes irascible and unsympathetic members must allow the Management and the Mods  more time and leeway in getting to know their way  around the  new  forums.

Thailand is in a state of flux at this time and  changing so very fast thus  making running any business never mind a forum as complex as this,  a nightmare

they could at least update the members on what's going on.

For example, since months the (useful!) "classifieds" - section is gone with little to know explanation except they r working on it (for months? reallyyy?).

Other useful stuff like "ask the lawyer" has disappeared as well.

And I am afraid, I definitely don't like the new version as it eventually makes my screen freeze every time I am scrolling down the "view new content" window.

In case SHERYL and UBONJOE will call it quits one day, expect the number of active members shrink another 40-50%

    Cheers mate!

you get 90 days stamped in, not just 30, actually not even an onward ticket required (some airlines do create their own rules though which has nothing to do with Malaysian immigration law, flying AirAsia or MAS is recommended therefore), and no silly filling of an immigration form - it is all in their computers as it should be in year 2016

  3. Best Western Oxford Suites. in quite a safe location and in walking distance to many eating places and a small commuter shopping Center. Some red nightlife close by as well, but such thing is unavoidable in Makati in your desired price range. Could be 55-60 $, but a lot better value for money than the grossly overpriced tiny shoe box of a room (8sqm? probably less!) at Red Planet Makati. Don't expect too much from Oxford Suites either, Hotels in Manila and the Phils in general are pathetic value for money, if you are used to Thailand, Cambo, Malaysia, Vietnam.....

Don't forget to download the GRAB app, they even are now allowed to pick up from the airport. Regular Cabs can be dodgy, particularly for first-timers

  4. there is no more LCCT in KL. It has been closed when the KLIA2 terminal opened, from which AirAsia operates. The KLIA Ekspres is certainly the fastest way, but it has become pricey recently when the fare was raised to 55 RM from 35 RM before. the good news is: It is less crowded as before, and if you are boarding at KLIA2, which is where the train starts before stopping at KLIA1, you always get a seat.

The cheaper but still comfortable option is the Bus to KL Sentral which cost 10 RM and runs all 10-15 minutes depending on demand. Buses to Puduraya are available too, but less frequent

  5. it definitely will be a quiet one, it has already been reported that no big or public countdown events will take place - as for XMas, it is not really a Thai festival as we know, though Thais still like the decoration without understanding much of what XMas actually means. I am sure this decoration everywhere in shopping malls for example will be toned down a lot as well, or completely missing this year

All extensions of stay cost 1,900 baht. There is no new law, and anything over 1,900 is going to whoever is organizing the extensions for you and/or a corrupt Immigration Officer/Office.

Just this morning I heard from several usually VERY WELL informed people that INDEED there seems to be a new law / new rules coming into effect starting 1st of November and that things will get extremely complicated and expensive for many.

I may know more about that soon as I incidentally will meet some of those reliable local sources tomorrow morning. Maybe UBONJOE can investigate himself as he probably seems to have some insider knowledge

Ditto to what ubonjoe said...up to 45 days before at CW.   Around two years ago while doing my annual retirement extension I asked the immigration officer how early in advance I can do the extension each year and she said up to 45 days before.  On my last extension a few months ago at CW I did it 33 days early.

and then you got 365 + 33 days or only 365 from the day you have applied ?

rate at airport isn't good but still far better than in your home country

    wrong !

both the Superrich original and Superrich copycat at the entrance to the Airport Express offer EXCELLENT rates, same as at their HQ's, which in case of GBP means usually 1% spread (has been even smaller spread b4 Brexit vote).

The small Superrich Booths at BTS stations offer a much worse rate, usually not better than banks

    - Hi's last stamp is saying he can stay until 17th of January, but he's non-b will be expired 29th of October.

    - If he applies re-entry permit (Multiple) on 26th of October, will he have a permission to come back to Thailand even after 29th of October? (Until the 17th of January).

Did I understand you correctly? :) thanks!

    UBONJOE confirmed this just above.

A re-entry permit is issued for a permit to stay. The visas expiration date has nothing to do with it.

Thank you for confirming this, this was my understanding too. But as it will be my first time using the re-entry permit, I want to be on the safe side.

And thank you for not letting me down in responding quickly as usual  ;-)

  11. similar case: multi entry B (but no work permit) expires December 16, latest 90 day period ends Nov 28. Planning to travel out of the country and getting another 90 day stamp. Will a re-entry permit issued after the actual Visa has expired, but still within the 90 day period obtained: Like, leaving January 15. Will the re-entry permit be issued until the last day of the initial 90 day period, which could be around Feb 28 or so.  Ubonjoe hello {-_-}  ?

Dudirty on Aljazeera. It is hard to listen to the BS for about 20 min. I wonder how brain damaged pinoys must be to follow his speeches for hours. Excellent material for psycho students first year.

    Rodrigo Duterte

Rodrigo Duterte interview: Death, drugs and diplomacy

In an exclusive interview, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte discusses his war on drugs and foreign policy.

    16 Oct 2016 13:06 GMTRodrigo Duterte, Philippines

It's been about 100 days into the presidency of Rodrigo Duterte.

Since he took power, the Philippine president has overseen the killing of more than 3,500 people in his war on drugs, offended world leaders and strained relations with the US.

In an exclusive first interview since he was sworn in, we talk to Duterte about his controversial war on drugs and foreign policy - including deteriorating relations with the United States and potentially warming relations with China.

"We have three million drug addicts, and it's growing. So if we do not interdict this problem, the next generation will be having a serious problem ... You destroy my country, I'll kill you. And it's a legitimate thing. If you destroy our young children, I will kill you. That is a very correct statement. There is nothing wrong in trying to preserve the interest of the next generation."

But Duterte admits that children and innocent people have also been killed in the bloody crackdown, and promises to investigate these extrajudicial killings, but he also calls them "collateral damage".

When asked about the contested South China Sea, the Philippine president says:

"We will not give up anything there; it's an entitlement ... You can only negotiate to prevent a war ... They invited me for talks, and I will go."

agree, I only recently had the chance to see and hear him talking on channelnewsasia, as I did not have international TV channels at my old place (not that I would have cared), and I simply cannot believe how this low-life-creature is acting and what he is saying.

You would expect such primitive talking and acting from a Gang-leader in Manila's Tondo slum talking to his cohorts rather than from an elected president. I just don't get..... but then again, in another big country a similar character is trying hard to become the leader, so maybe this is the new reality on this planet ?

Section 38 of the Immigration Act says who is responsible for reporting the arrival of a foreigner at a residence, ie for submiting the TM.30 form, and your are right, it does not say that it is the responsibility of the "farang". This is what it says:

"House Master" is defined in Section 4 of the Immigration Act. "Owner" and possessor are not defined separately, but reference to them is made in the definition of "house-master":

Therefore, from the above legal point of view,

    • if the owner retains possession of the residence, the owner is the house-master
    • if the owner rents the residence out to a tenant, then the tenant is the possessor and thus the house-master
    • if any other person is the possessor of the residence in any other capacity, then this other person is the house-master

    interesting

But is this an official interpretation of the rules or rather your own findings?

The complete lack of clear directions from official sides is oven more disturbing than the actual rules themselves.

Thus, hundred different rules exist at hundred IO's

You've completely missed the point.  When arriving at the airport or border, your arrival card states your residence.  Unless that changes, there is no need to visit immigration according to the law and according to my immigration sister-in-law.

that is WRONG imo, and it is the LANDLORD or Hotel/Guesthouse who is required to report you within 24 hrs, this is not an individuals duty

I have stayed in hotels many times and have never been asked for a TM30 or TM28 by the immigration office here (9 extensions and numerous 90 day reports).

I don't think they see a report from a hotel unless they look for them on their computer system.

wouldn't they automatically have to do that when you apply for your 90 day report ?

As I am subject to this kind of madness in the near future too, I am already considering to travel out of the country every time before the 90 days are over, same as I did all those years when I had the non-immi-multiple-entry Visas.

that way, no messing around with TM28/TM30 and whatever else may appear

Singapore is not the cheapest flight option.

    Guess you know that.

Kuala Lumpur is usually cheapest from Bangkok (Don Mueang), assuming you want to fly from there.

not true, since THAI LION started flying the route, it can be as cheap as KUL. cheapest flights nowadays r to SGN, NOK had many Promos 1080/1125 in the past and now THAI LION starts that route too, offering Promos for as low as 980 THB, incl luggage
