  1. Btw, on Bangkok banks Be1st VISA (debit) Card there are 3 numbers on the back. Still doesn't work.

    As mentioned above...mine is different...

Have Be1st Debit card issued at branch in BKK... It has my name printed on the front side of the card, but no 3 digit code, or any other digits..on the reverse.

The card with 3 digits on the back has to be ordered in and takes 7 days

  2. You cannot make online purchases with Debit Cards.

For some stupid reason Thai banks have chosen to not support that feature in their Debit card, only their Credit card. Of course it took 3 cards and many calls to support centers to find this out, since out local branch office said it surely could be used online...they where wrong.

I have debit card from USA bank and have made online purchases with it, I believe. I don't know about a card from a Thai bank.

Yes, but not a Thai Debit card - so far.

Btw, on Bangkok banks Be1st VISA (debit) Card there are 3 numbers on the back. Still doesn't work.

Does it have your name on the front? and does it say Bangkok or Krungtepmahankorn on your address in Thai?

These can affect if the card works on line or not. The Be1st Card must have your name on the physical card to be used online

  3. Many expats i see, seem to go to great lengths to constantly show themselves as being more than just a tourist.

Some use Thai language in situations where it's not necessary. For example, i've seen expats in banks trying to explain something in Thai (and failing), when it seems that the bank teller's command of English is somewhat better than theirs in Thai.

Another instance of trying to prove one has settled in Thailand is in the ordering of the spiciest food. Not that i question that the expat in question doesn't enjoy hot food, but there seems to be an element of pride in being able to stomach what the locals do.

It sometimes even seems like the tourists themselves are doing anything to avoid the tag. Some frequent travellers to Thailand are a bit like wannabe expats, and try to convince you they really are the genuine article.

Meeting with other expats i find there can be an underlying current of competition as to who speaks the most Thai, eats the spiciest food, knows the most about Thai people, and so on...

So just why is it expats are so keen to distance themselves from being a tourist. And why the need to prove it every time they step outside the front door? Or have i got it round the wrong way? Perhaps it's not so much a case of not wanting to be a tourist, but more like just trying to fit in. What do you think?

Uuuummmmnnn, expats are NOT tourists ? :o

Sorry think the Chiang vest and fisherman pants belongs to the Backpacker 'Tourist' as well as the stingy old retires living on their DSS pensions(not taking a swipe at pesioners, buthere are a small tight fisted smart mouth know it all click of them, especially in Issan)

  4. All lot of these women go to the Uk knowing that they will be working off a pre-agreed debt, and a pre-agreed percentage of the future takings(which the do actually get!!!!) I know of many girls who have worked off debts in HK/Japan/UK and trust me they are now 'retired' and rolling in cash. as it is very very hard for Thai's to get a tourist visa into the UK they are usually smuggled in on a re-cycled(stolen passport) and/or on a 72 hr tranist visa to the UK

These women do not deserve pity as their greed and desire to make heaps of cash to 'retire' their body from the sex industry, without the need to be pumped by a half dozen fat old sweaty farangs everyday on soi 6 fuels the industry. These women are not tricked in any way. It's just a ploy to get pity, These girls are usually hardcore seasoned Bar girls

  5. Who knows, Sven might have an unforeseen 'accident' during his stay in Pattaya.

That might fortuitously save Thaksin a few million pounds on contract severance compensation.

Yea he'll probably be found dead, shot in the head twice and the police will rule it a suicide :o (happend in Pattaya to a another farang I have been led to beleive)

  6. It is not a "paying" issue, it is not a buying a wife issue.

For most modern Thai/Thai weddings I know of, the dowry is still there, as part of tradition (which I view as a gesture of gratitude to the bride's parents). However, in most of these situations, the couple is from similar socio-economic backgrounds, and neither party (bride's parents or groom's parents) want to keep the money; rather, they give it to the couple to help them in their new family.

Even so called Thai 'Supstars" pay obscene amounts of money and gold as a sinsod.... so not just the low classes.

  7. The rate in ISSAN is 20% mate me thinks she is trying to short change you. Some people in my wife's village even charge 20% a day!!!!!!

Point is the minimum return you should be looking at is 20% for 5% you better off with a UK or Aussie bank account

  8. I have never had any experience with the Thai legal system, But I have with the Japanese system. If the two are comparable which is the seem to be. Their will be alot of 'innocent' people, or people not receiving a fair hearing or any form of Justice.

I Japan, if arrested you lawyer has no access to witness statements or Evidence until your trial(which takes months), the interepers provided for you work in tandem with the police to get you to confess. The prosecutor can legally withold witness and evidence.(basical the prosecution choose which evidence & witnesses to present) your lawyer basically has to act like a PI and get evidence for your defence, but usually the help the prosecution in getting a guilty plea. 99% of people in japan are found guilty, the other 1% go to appeal and are usually convicted on appeal.

So please dont be so harsh on the OP, It is people like him that shine a small ray of sunshine in these prisoners dark days

  9. LOL Yeah right the guy is only 29 .... not yet married ... not yet a father ... but the stress of going to the western style grocery stresses him out? That is a guy that just aint cut out for living in Thailand!

What the hel_l does his age, marital status, if he is a father or not got to do with being cut out to live in Thailand...??? Supermarkets stress me out, <deleted> it places full of half educated, disrespectful morons in any country stresses me out, but I live in Thailand just fine.

Have a feeling he was just venting his frustrations.... Like so many do!!! Give the guy a break... or just ingore him and go back to your bottle of chang and go feed your buffalo

  10. I agree with the poster, Why should we smile & wai when we care clearly being ripped off, $hat on, and totally disrespected? why should we not complain?

Why wife only ever says jai yenyen、smile when I get ripped & the dirty little B#*tard knows he has you in a bind.

Let the thai know how you feel when they upset you, because they have no problem showing you their anger hwne they are pissed at you!!!

  11. THIS IS MY LAST PEACE OF ADVICE RE: Banks Ac's, Paypal, eBay etc!! If you need a CREDIT CARD ONLY to open the account and have a UK address or someone in the uK to receive your mail and you trust, then look at the following link.

    www.mycashplus.co.uk

This is the ONLY Really Legit UK Prepaid credit card( that is in your name and address and only you can access or nominated add cardholders, and you are not wiring money via diff names and banks. Can be topped up via Uk Post office, or by standing order etc.... and has online banking)!!!!

Regarding Bank accounts either open a Thai Paypal account (on the paypal.com site and select thailand as your country. but better have proof of address in Thailand) and link your Thai bank account for withdrawing funds/receiving payments only. OR use your UK bank account and open a UK Paypal account, but will need a mate to do this as will need a credit card in your name and a Automated telephone call (to a UK landline) comfirmation where you will receive a code that needs to be added to you account.

    Australia has similar requirements

  12. The people who want take the P**S can just <deleted> OFF and get a life!!!

If you want the info now, you can pay for any of the services advertised on the Google ads above.

I was trying to offer for free what I bought and used successfully, to help members here. But some members have too much attitude, and seem to just want to rubbish and judge me without first finding out about the account. Those people who directy asked me in a PM the names and links for the banks got them.

BUT AS I KEEP REPEATING YOU CANNOT APPLY ONLINE FOR THESE ACCOUNTS!!!

THIS THREAD IS DEAD AND IF YOU WANT THE INFO, CLICK ON THE GOOGLE ADS, OR GOOGLE SEARCH US BANK ACCOUNTS AND PAY FOR IT!!!!

But why can't you at least name the bank so people know it's legit? Remember, this is an anonymous forum. We have no idea who you are.

Wells Fargo Bank Have a IPB Account with a Gold Visa Debit card is a bit of a hassle with paperwork, but doable with all your paperwork in order. www.wellsfargo.com

The other with the Platinum Visa Debit Card (although not platinum in colour, so why they call it platinum I dont know) is with E'TRADE (www.etrade.com) this is brokerage account for online trading but can be used the same as a checking account, doesnt have to be used for trading.

As said before Cannot apply online if live outside the US as might get the forms wrong or complete them wrong, but go test your luck, or pay one of the google ads for the forms and info for the same banks I stated.

NOW PLEASE CAN WE LEAVE THIS THREAD AS DEAD!!!!

Since you insist on being the middleman "FOR FREE!!" I suspect a commission or finder's fee if this is not an outright troll.

  16. Does anyone know if this is possible. I wish to register as a seller on ebay. I do not have a credit card, although I have a debit card and have tried this but it wont accept it when I try to register as a seller. I am in Thailand btw
Luckily i have an english ebay account i brought with me,. we also opened a thai account in my wifes name here, ive linked it to my paypal and can use both accounts, however if you sell on the thai one and wish to transfer money into an account for goods sold it will have to go back to the uk ( as you wont be able to transfer to a thai bank account ), for me not a problem as we draw the money out here once cleared on a debit card,.i tried the other day to add a thai bank to my wifes paypal account and it wont have it, i actually paid in 10 dollars and went to pay the fee to upgrade the accout and it wouldnt have it, it seems the thai debit cards cant be used to purchase goods ( or services ) from outside thailand, .im still working on it !

I now of possible solutions to this.. IM for details

  17. I recently discovered an American Bank that will open an account for NON-US RESIDENTS. Account has online banking, VISA Debit Card, Check Book can wire transfer to your Thai Bank via online banking at a much more competitive rate than Paypal give.

This account can be linked to Paypal, eBay, Bidpay www.bidpay.com (a better alt. to Paypal but requires US account. They transfer funds immediately upon receipt to your US account, and are eBay approved)

Transfers to the US account take 3-4days from paypal and are fee free, and funds can be withdrawn from ATM using Visa Debit card, or wired to you overseas bank account via online banking, giving you a 2-5baht better rate than Paypal.

Can be opened with only a passport, but some applicants may be asked for extra ID like Drivers Lic, bank statement, Utility bills etc, but Passport alone is usually enough

Application time from when you post to when you receive the welcome pack is approx 2 weeks.

I am not an agent for the bank. I will supply you the forms and instructions FOR FREE!!!! You do not send me your forms, ID or any money... You deal direct with the Bank.

I have opened this thread purely to share my find FOR FREE!!! with other Farang getting ripped off by paypal.

    IM me for info

    Cheers

  18. Having your surname after your wifes first name might slightly work in her favor when applying for visas for foriegn (western) countries, but I think living here, it would be better to just keep her last name. You will need to make that decision before you get married because when you register the marrage, they will ask you what you are going to do about her last name.

    Purely curiosity question...

Can the Farang man change his surname to the wife's family name??? :o This is outta pure curiosity

  19. I want to take to the UK on a visitors visa to get a civil wedding ceremony in the UK, then to see my mates in Australia ( I hold passports for both countries)

But she doesnt have a secure job, or school course.... she doesnt have cash in the bank as I support her. We have pic, and emails, and a joint condo lease thats it!!! Both our phones are pre-paid so no phone records.

Also the businesses are to help her build something in her life.

I appreciate all the advice. I have been coming here for 14yrs maybe 15 and have come 35+times. But this is my first relationship with a thai girl. So am clueless to the formalities

    THX again

  20. Hi

I want to buy my future wife a small business or two, to give her an employment history for futue visa applications, for me to have a work permit(only coz read in news farang was arrested for sitting in a bar he owned with no work permit) and the 40K an month joint income thing for the visa.

The 2,000,000 capitalisation thing is a bit rich.... what would be advised? Have read previous threads on this and didnt find them too clear, or maybe I just too simple minded :o

    Anyways advice is welcomed

I surmise you have seen the other thread.

Are you more clear on this? Any questions on how you can get a work permit now and your wife the business?

    www.sunbeltasiagroup.com

    hi sunbelt,

I have been looking at businesses you have listed... and may use you for the permit as well. The process just seems to complex for me to tackle alone.

As said before just need a business or two to build a stable cred background for embassies for my future thai wife and helps with the 40k a mth thing when married. The work permit as I said is to avoid the horror of helping out the business and not having the proper paperwork...

    THX
