  1. Thanks. This was only 1 price quote from the company that installed my CCTV cameras -- unreasonable IMO. I may be able to find a more reasonable price if I search. But, the solar option at about B1,000 per light looks attractive at the moment. And pretty easy to switch later if something better becomes available.
  2. Please let us know what you find. I share your concern, but I am not an electrician, and the cost of having wired lights properly installed is excessive. I was quoted B10,000 to have 3 lights with a timer installed, which I thought was excessive. I can install the solar lights myself, so the cost is for the lights and that's it.....
  3. Thanks. It is often a struggle here in Thailand to have any idea what you are getting, especially with internet purchases..... I may try a few of each and "take a gamble" on the cheap ones....
  4. This is what I saw when I went to your first Lazada link: ไฟโซล่าเซลล์ มีหลายกำลังวัตท์ 1200w 1000w 900w 800w 350w โซลาร์เซลล์ Solar lights LEDไฟโซลาร์เซลล์ แสงสีขาว สินค้าประกันร้านค้า 5 Ratings 21 Brand:JP(JINPIN) More Lighting from JP(JINPIN)Free Shipping I see now that it is JP and not JD
  5. That's perfect -- thanks a lot. So long as they are "automatic..., meaning they come on when it gets dark and go off when it gets light", they are just what I need. The big plus is that they save the hard wiring. I do lamps on timers inside the house, this is strictly for the outside. The ones that you linked on Lazada are minimum 350W, so unless you tell me otherwise, I will order 5 of these, which should be adequate. Again, thanks very much for your help.....🙏
  6. Great idea, thanks. If I can find lights with a darkness sensor, they would be perfect. I have such sensors on the small lights over the doorway into the garden, which are wired lights. Thanks again.
  7. Great idea, thanks. Are these lights set to come on at dusk/dark? How long do they last in one night? I assume that lower watt will last longer -- what size in watts are your lights? Thanks again.
  8. Thanks for the help -- sound like you have way more than I need.... That should keep any intruder away
  9. Thanks for the help; much appreciated. I will consider 10W (and 20W for the back) rather than 20W and 30W.
  10. My house in the Maprachan are was broken into while I was away. They stole the water pump, which I have temporarily locked inside until I improve security around my house. I had CCTV cameras installed last week. Next is flood likghts around the peremeter of the house -- rear, and both sides, and the front. The land is almost 1 rai and the house is 2 story. The side yards are narrow, 20+ meters long and 5 meters wide. The front is small, as the house is positioned close to the road in the front -- if positioned correctly, I think 20W should be adequate for the front. The back is large with a pool. Can someone recommend the "best" size (in Watts) for flood lights? I am sure that 10W is too small; 50W may be OK for the back, but could be too much, as I really want light on the area around the house, and not for the entire back yard. I think, given what I have read, that 20W - 30W should be find for the sides. Will (F) 20W, (S) 20W, (S) 20W and (B) 30W be ok? The cost of the lights is not a major concern, but I would like to keep the running cost to a minimum. Can someone confirm what I am thinking is correct or correct me? Thanks a lot. TL
  11. Update -- When speaking to the ITC representative at the number on the warranty card, I gave her my mobile number. A few hours later a Thai man called and I could not understand him. He hung up. A few minutes later a man called who spoke very good English and asked about my ITC water pump. He seemed to have some knowledge of my problem and the options I had been given, which he understood were not practical. He almost immediately offered to send me a new pump immediately with the old broken pump still with me. He said he would coordinate the delivery of the new pump within 15 minutes and get back to me. He asked that I please send the broken pump to them when the new pump arrives and is installed,, which, of course, I agreed to do. Within 45 minutes I got a message on Lazada from the original seller telling me that they had received instructions from ITC to send the new pump immediately, which they were going to do. He asked me to confirm my delivery address, so I think it is going to be sent. ITC and their staff in Thailand are excellent and incredibly helpful. I will never buy from this seller again, but I have great confidence in and appreciation for ITC. A+++.....
  12. Thanks very much. Unfortunately, I don't see the part I need there.
  13. Within the last 2 weeks I replaced the water pump at my house. It was 10+ years old and was in the house when I bought it. The existing pump is an ITC 250 Watt (the tall round design). Both are made by Hitachi. The new one is short and square. The new pump started to leak within 1 week of installation. I bought it on Lazada. The seller refuses to provide me with the part, and requires that I send the new pump back to him for replacement or refund (he will not send a new/replacement pump until he receives the old one from me). I contacted the local representative on the warranty card and was told that I needed to send the pump to them for repair and it would take about 1 month. I cannot do without the pump for 1 week, let alone 1 month. One option is to buy another ITC pump of the same model and swap it out, and send the broken pump back to the seller hopefully for a refund (he has changed stories/options daily, so I am really not sure if I will get anything from him). The other (preferred) option is to find the broken part here in Pattaya. Hence, the reason for this thread -- Is anyone aware of a shop that sells ITC/Hitachi water pump parts? Reinstalling the old pump would require 2 "installations" as the connection points are totally different at B1,000 each and would be a total loss. Thanks for any help..... TL
  14. I expect that "your taxes" don't even cover the burden you impose on the UK government. The UK hasn't been "great" since Maggie Thatcher left in 1990. Since John Major it has been all down hill for the UK -- "Great Britian" is a figment of your imagination, as is your delusion about America -- envy is a sign of admiration....
  15. I have a house near Maprachan that requires bathroom/kitchen repairs -- new "guts" in toilets, leaks repaired, hot water heaters checked/changed, etc. Can anyone recommend a reliable/reasonable plumber that can do this work in my area. Contact information would be very much appreciated. (I contacted a guy named Toom from an earlier thread, but he said that he does not do this work). Thanks very much for any help. TL.
  16. Thanks. I would love to get contact/access information for the car and motorbike repo auctions.
  17. Thanks. 90% of the cars and bikes on FB market place are fake. I'll look again, but it appears to me to be a waste of time. Baht/Sold seems to be a better source that FB, and they have nothing reasonably priced.
  18. I am looking for a late-model used motorbike for my daughter, 160cc or less. There used to be a good shop on Pattaya Tai next to the Mityon repair shop, but it is closed now. Any recommendations for a shop with a good selection and reasonable prices would be very much appreciated. If you have something in good condition that you want to sell at a reasonable price for a quick cash sale, please let me know (PM me). Thanks a lot, TL
  19. Thanks very much for your helpful reply. Much appreciated. I will contact OrthoSmile now. TL
  20. My 13 year old daughter likely needs braces. We live in the Na Jomtien area. I cannot find a recent recommendation for an orthodontist in the Pattaya area. Can anyone recommend an orthodontist that is good and reasonably priced in the Pattaya area of who thay have recent experience/knowledge. Anywhere in the Pattaya area is acceptable, but the closer to Na Jomtien the better. Recommendations for a good general dentist will also be appreciated, as my older daughter and I also need to have some dental work done. Thanks very much for any help. 🙏 TL
  21. Thanks, that is exactly what I am looking for. My existing lights are (I think) standard, normal size -- internal diameter 4" (11cm); external diameter 6" (150mm). I will check Thai Watsadu.
  22. Excellent idea. Thanks a lot.
  23. Well beyond me..... Any your "fix" is exactly what I am trying to avoid, both as to cost and mess, the mess and dust from the ceiling repair would require moving all of the furniture out of the room and be impossible to clean. A dimmer is a far easier solution, which is, I think, equivalent to what you are suggesting. Thanks anyway......
  24. My house has the typical recessed "can" light fixtures, all are 4" internal diameter and 6" external diameter, each with a screw-in light bulb. I would like to change these to the "more modern" flat LED lighting fixtures with the self-contained light in the sealed fixture. The problem is that the LED light fixtures that I see on the internet are not flexible as to light housing dimensions and light wattage -- a 4" fixture is only available with the 9w light. My living room which is not especially large has 10 ceiling lights with presently 5w bulbs with a single switch. I tried 7w bulbs and they are too bright for the room. The ceiling is already cut for the 4" fixtures to be installed. One option would be to install 9w lights with a dimmer switch -- not my preferred choice unless it is the only option. I also perhaps could have 2 circuits with 2 switches -- 6 lights on 1 circuit and 4 on the other -- which would I think work and not be difficult. Is anyone aware of (1) 4" internal diamater ceiling LED lights with 5w or 6w capacity? Are "spacers" available to allow me to use a smaller diameter light with a 5w or 6w lighting capacity in the existing holes in the ceiling? I cannot believe that more flexibility betwen light size/diameter and light wattage is not available, but I aked on one site and was told "no". Thanks for any help/guidance. TL
  25. And what of value does the US Dollar have "to back it up? Nixon took the Dollar off the "gold standard" in 1971, and since then it has been "backed" by nothing. US Dollars are "created" by the Federal Reserve when it buys debt (and by banks when they make loans) with new Dollars that it creates. What gives it "value" is that other people will accept it in exchange for goods and sevices -- nothing more (it is a "fiat" currency). When people lose fait in the US Dollar its value will also decrease (maybe vanish). That process may have already started. The creation of US Dollars by the Federal Reserve over the past decade has been reckless, which is why people have been looking for alternatives to hold wealth -- hence the creation of crypto-currencies, such as Bitcoin. Their appeal is that their quantity and increases in quantity are extremely limited, unlike the Dollar whose quantity is subject to political pressure and government manipulation. And the price/value of Bitcoin had been increasing exponentially for a ten year period (2009/10 through 2021), but has since dropped to less than third of its all-time high -- its exceptional volatility in value suggests that it is not a good "store of value", a fundamental requirement for "money". Where are Bitcoin and the other crypto-currencies headed? I have no idea, but I wouldn't expect them to disappear any time soon. And as long as there is a significant group of prople (I won't call them "investors", rather gamblers) that are willing to pay $10,000+ for a single Bitcoin, they certainly aren't |worth zlich". Can I respectfully suggest a course in money and banking before you post again on this subject.
