ok, I am not married to a Thai wife. But why does always come up that cynisism about Thailand and Thai women. We farangs who live here do love the land and its people. Otherwise we would not be here. The case itself is tragic enough, don`t ya think Doi Tong? I for my part do feel very sorry for the guy.

would really like to join, but cannot find the story. Any clues?

Somewhere I have heard, Durian is supposed to have the natural effect of a Viagra pill. Could that be true or only too good to be true?

Hi Big spuds, don`t ya think you`re kind of naiv. U don`t even tell what kind of profession you are in. My advise: take a break from uk, come her, give it a chance and maybe you`re lucky. But who - honestly - should or could give you some work with the little details you are posting?
Sorry for the clear words.

we all know that these are official advices. If a gvt does not act that way it can easyly be sued for not doing so as it happened already. Most of the western embassies do warn their connationals now from southern Thailand. Germany even specificly warned about Phuket.

sorry gents, the guy was old enough to know that any day at anytime at any place in the world something like such an accident can happen to anyone as soon as one sticks the nose out on the street.
How in heaven can he live without any responsablility for himself and his family and run around without an insurance. I simply can`t cope that.
-
what is Thailand now up to? Shootouts in classrooms? I don`t believe it.

when the attacks and the torching of buildings in the south started a few months ago, I was already afraid of an increasing inner Thai/muslim problem.
Unfortunately I was not wrong and it will have to be seen how the government can resolve this situation with the least casualties.
I dont want to be too pessimistic about the tourism in the Phuket and Samui area but surely it will not improve the incoming figures.
Peacefully driving my motorbike through Pattani last sunday, I would not have thought of being so near to the coming drama.
After SARS and bird flu the country really did not need that. What else is to come?

Chingy --- It most definitely is a religious holy war. Unfortunately, it looks like the muslims started WWIII on 911. The muslims have declared war on the "infidels". Which is basically anyone not living in the 17th century, and listening to them. So if you are using electronic products, cell phones, and don't treat women like dogs, then you are an infidel, and you are a target.

LPCustom69....What you have written is very idiotic and racist !
I, myself, am an agnostic and I am not a big fan of 'organized religion' at all but stereotyping a group of people this way can only come from a bigot !
Racists, chauvinists and anti-gays in this forum really make me sick.
Jem
Hi Jem,
calling LPCustom69`s remarks simply idiotic and racist, in my humble opinion makes things a bit too easy for you. Even if the remarks are slightly exaggerated and strong, he seems to have his point. Only in the exaggeration it becomes clear. And I am afraid he is not so far from what I feel.
Even as an agnostic you should recognize that other people simply do have their fears about that global threat.
Why - for heavens`s sake - do I have to let myself call an "infidel", just because I do not share the muslims belief? To me this is an insult and arrogance in itself.

Nothing funny about it. Let`s just hope for some rain. The only thing we can do? And maybe we could at least be a bit more concious with our water consumption.

Unfortunately, Matthew's fate is not surprising. No country in the world - and especially the dear ol' USA - allows political activism of ex-pats or anyone from a foriegn country. It is a dilema ... too bad he did not obtain legal residency from his marriage -- although that statement assumes that his wife is also a legal Thai resident, which is probably not the case. Which kind of proves HIS point, now doesn't it ...
An Amercian In Thailand
PS - I do hope someone is listening about the US missionaries, however. That I would like to know more about, from reliable sources. quote
Unfortunately there is nothing to be added. But yet another story that makes one thinking and very sad.

what is meant by: farang becoming a social burden to the Thai state? Assuming the case where I dont have any more financial resources available, will the Thai government really support me and in what way?
Isn`t it rather that if I run out of money I have to go back to my home country where the social net is taking care of me? The Thai authorities will never pay my ticket back home if necessary. But my embassy will at least advance the money.
So what is it all about?

Police are looking into reports that large quantities of chemicals have been bought by teenagers, amid concerns they will attempt to harm revellers during the Songkran holiday, a source said.
I am far away from dramatizing the above article. But it makes me sure once again to stay - like quite a number of us farangs - at home as from 13th of April with a good load of DVD`s and Chang. After 15 of April I shall surface again.
But even surfaced I shall avoid the South of this so much liked country. A sad development.
-
Only one way for me during Songkran since I am not owning a car: filling well the fridge before and don`t move out of the house for three days just in order to keep me out of trouble. This behaviour has proved to be the safest way to "survive" the festival.
-
I have to admit, I fell for the april fool`s joke. But slowly slowly nothing surprises me any more in the LOS
-
wasn`t something like that to be expected and shouldn`t there have been stronger guards?
Everyone knows that in the South of Thailand something is cooking. So now they have to catch the thieves before these will blow up some disco or singasong.
Very sad, the whole thing.

Anyway, let`s look at it from any angle. The militant muslims are approaching southern Thailand with their blasting way of crusade and the aim is to conquer whole Thailand.
I am simply scared.

20.000 Baht fine for trafficing underaged boys is ridiculously few. Just imagine the profit these guys could have made out of that business, I imagine.
The three years in prison are a different story and may be adequate. I am no judge.

let us face it guys, during the european summer, when there is the "bike season", hundreds of victims, deaths or badly injured cases occur there every year. Not so much because of alcohol or viagra but mainly on juvenile strengh measuring, high spirits, showing off with a big bike and simply carelessness, recklessness or even criminal negligence.
Living and enjoying my present home Thailand, I dont refrain from driving my bike, dont refrain from sex and do not refrain from alcohol. But, and that is the philosophy, anyone of them at its time.
No one of us can afford an accident neither way.
-
Of course, most of us ,,farangs,, are sceptic and ironic about the attempt of diminishing the danger of the water splashing. But mind you, at least somebody from the Thai side also thinks, the custom is ,,slightly being overdone,,.
Anyway, I think the idea of slowing down is worth to be considered. Even Thai officials noticed that the currently used practice has nothing to do any more with ancient Thai customs.
It will take time to think it over. In the meantime, at least for this year, I shall stay at home for the famous three days in April and shall keep dry and without danger.

I always wondered how our CEO could have eaten his wisdom with big spoons that make him smarter than the rest of the world.
The new outbreak of the bird flu proves him wrong again.
And if Thailand can prevail with its ,,economic leadership in SO-asia,, remains to be seen. I wish Thailand would.

besides Bruno`s problems with his french embassy which seems to me a quite personal thing, why in heaven do you guys not simply obey your visaruns and live quiet and peacefully in LOS.
Exceptions of course if someone looses his passport. But if that would happen to me, as it did in the past in Russia, I am confident to find a way with the local immigration office and my nearest Consulate.
By the way, I had been given a brand new passport last year within 6 weeks from my BKK embassy.

it would have been too nice, easy and simple if the whole epidemic was just gone like this. No one should be surprised if the peak of the mountain has not been reached yet.
We should all stay in alert!

let`s face it. This is exactly the kind of people noone wants to be here. Neither the Thai authorities nor the "normal" Farang community. So let him have his share he deserves. No mercy from my side for this crank.
