Of course there is a difference between plain PCR and RT-PCR but what I was explaining is that all COVID PCRS are RT-PCR even if not explicitly stated as such.

It is a physical impossibility to do a COVID PCR without the initial RT step. Because the COVID virus does not contain any DNA, only RNA.

So it is nto a matter of needing a special sort of test, any place doing COVCID PCR is doing RT-PCR. But for entry into Thailand you need to be sure the results will clearly state RT-PCR.

I’m flying from Hawaii where one of the main healthcare is Kaiser Hospital and their PCR is an RT-PCR

  2. My friend's wife works at Bandkok Pattaya Hospital. They will have the Pfizer. Moderna, Johnson and Johnson and about two others. I don't know exactly what the cost will be for foreigners but it'll be cheaper than getting on a plane and flying out of the country. The papers they give in all countries is stamped with the CDC logo. My friend in Hawaii had a video call with his brother on the east coast of the U.S. and it was the same paper in Hawaii with the CDC logo so it's a standardized card. That'll be your vaccine passport.

  3. In Hawaii they're vaccinating 65 and above with a state or driver's license and where you get it depends on what medical facility that you're with (HMSA or Kaiser). In the newspaper they said Florida is vaccinating anyone who is a citizen regardless what state you're from (65 and above). My brothers are in California and they said it's pretty easy over there.

  4. I can read and write and speak on an intermediate level but I have a hard time with comprehension when people speak to me. I heard about the Hello Talk App that connects you with native speakers that you can talk with. Anyone can give me the pros and cons of this App?

  5. Iam from Hawaii and live in Naklua. I visited Hawaii in March and am now stuck in Hawaii and have lost my retirement visa. Hawaii banks require you tobe here to do transfers. I opened an account online with USAA.com. It was easy and can transfer domestic and international. The only requirement is you have a honorable discharge from the military. I only put four years in the Coast Guard.

You can't split direct deposit with OPM, but you can do basically the same thing by setting up an allotment....you can have two allotments.

    Snapshot of Online Acct

See snapshot below of window that pops up when clicking the green Start button to start an allotment.

For the select acct type it offers Checking or Savings....for your Bangkok Bank acct you would select Savings. Important Note: Keep in mind for a reoccurring US govt payment to Bangkok Bank paid via the "ACH system" you must open a special direct deposit savings acct otherwise Bangkok Bank will reject/place on hold the payment to a regular savings acct.   If setting up the ACH payment to your regular Bangkok Bank savings acct while initial US govt payments may slip-by, Bangkok Bank will spot the US govt payment eventually (probably quickly...years back caught me after only one monthly payment), place the payment on hold, notify you that you must open a special direct deposit acct to receive reoccurring US govt payments via the ACH system, and this notification will say you need to do it withing two weeks otherwise the on hold payment will be sent back to the US govt.

  8. no answer :)

i am looking for a Ukulele for my son, can anybody point me to a big musicstore in Bangkok?

At the Emporium music section I saw one ukulele in the section with the guitars. I also saw one at one of the music shops at the Esplanade. I assume there would be one inside the music shops at the Siam Paragon since I saw one at the Emporium. I brought my own ukulele from Hawaii and also the strings because I don't know if they sell Ukulele strings here. I hope this helps you.

  9. as i am looking for the same for my trip in my, i would like to update this topic ...

are there some more gyms in bangkok offering day passes?

i heard about rocky gym, but it seems to be quite "old" ???!!?!!

Where exactly is Rocky Gym located? I heard their prices are reasonable.

  10. Anyone know of any good Japanese grocery stores in Bangkok? Preferable in Ratchada/Sukhumvit areas

I'm looking for those little wasabi pieces, they are spicy and SO delicious!

I'm thankful for any leads you give :o

Fuji Supermarket (no relation to fuji restaurant) located on soi 33/1 (soi next to Robin Hood) across the street from the park next to the Emporium. It's located on your left side of the soi near the end.

  11. News reports now that MANY widely available skin moisturizers contain HIDDEN estrogen. In other words, you cannot identify whether your product contains it or not by reading the label. It is common for women to moisturize their entire body daily; it is less common for men (though I personally do as I have a dry skin condition). The estrogen in these products IS absorbed into your body and increases the risk of breast cancer in women AND men. so if you are moisturizing daily with one of these products, you are DOSING yourself with estrogen daily.

Hopefully, someday, the specific brands that contain the hidden estrogen will be published, along with the ones that do not contain it. For now, if you want to moisturize safely, you have to use natural oil products like safflower oil or olive oil (but with the olive oil you will smell like a salad).

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,467531,00.html

Women without breast cancer are also at risk, she added. If they use estrogen-containing topical moisturizers, they may be dosing themselves daily with estrogen for extended periods, thereby boosting their risk of breast cancer.

In the tv report about this study. it was reported that the focus was on women because they use moisturizers much more than men, but that the health concerns raised by their research apply equally to the men who use these moisturizers daily.

As a safe alternative, I read in Prevention Magazine that men who are older should use Baby oil which is cheaper and lasts longer. You only have to put it on once daily. They now have Baby oil lite which works great and I bought it at the Emporium and at Tops.

  12. i eat all my meals out. the local Thai restaurant i go to a lot uses lots of oil in the dishes. i kept asking for less oil but they complained it would stick to the pan. i finally brought them a non stick pan and utensil and now there is almost no oil in my dishes now. as far as the nahm pla i just use the peppers and no liquid. when they make fried rice for me they don't use oil, the do use brown rice, they add Chinese broccoli, cashews and chicken. great dish and no oil because of the pan. i told them they can add a little water to the pan if they want

The problem with a non-stick pan is Thais tend to cook with high heat. Non-stick pans are not suppose to be heated above medium heat or else they emit toxic fumes with can go into your food.

immigration officer in Bkk reject my APPLICATION FOR 1 YEAR EXTENSION OF TEMPORARY STAY IN THE KINGDOM BASED ON NON - O MARRIAGE VISA.

    Officer's explanation:

Applicants living in other provinces are NOT able to apply through the immigration in Bangkok (since 04/Sep/2008 they must apply locally).

Anyone whit the same experience, or just unluck???? :o

I lived in Pattaya for 3 years, then moved to Bangkok. I renewed my 1 year visa in Pattaya just to do it with my friends down there. Pattaya did it but questioned me if I had two address--one in Bangkok and one in Pattaya. I said no I only lived in Bangkok but was here on holiday. They renewed it but when I went to Bangkok to do my 90 day the lady at the window was very irritated at me and said why I renewed my visa in Pattaya when I lived in Bangkok and next time I better come here. She gave me my 90 day paper but was very rude. I'm dreading my next visit to do my 90 day because it looks like I might get the 3rd degree everytime until I renew my 1 year extension in Bangkok.

  14. Cheaper solution is Viterra-M Multi-vitamins and minerals, by Pfizer, 100 caps for B360 in Fascino pharmacy.

The only Fascino branch I know is in Pattaya on North Pattaya Road across from Lotus, but there must be others . . . .

There's a Fascino on Soi Thong Lo (55) off Sukhumvit about a 10 minute walk from the Sky Train on the left hand side of the road on Soi Thong Lo.

  15. I was wondering if anyone knows if Wheat-Free Soy Sauce (Tamari) is available in BKK, and if so, where would I find it sold? Thanks!

I bought Tamari at Tops supermarket and also the supermarket at the Emporium. It's a small bottle and it's located my the dipping sause for sashimi. You have to read the small english print which will say Tamari at the end of it. I am a Japanese American so I buy soy sauce (Shoyu) on a regular basis. It's alot more expensive than Kikoman which is a wheat base. I hope this helps you!
