  1. I have an APEC visa which allows for multiple entries valid for 3 years of 90 days per entry. Does anyone know if the new visa rules apply to APEC card holders, or are they exempt?

Do you mean you are an APEC cardholder ?

APEC Visa/Cardholders still have 90days only... but what is nice about the APEC visa is you do not need to renew it for up to 3 years and it is less scrutinized at Immigration Control than other visas.... Also I think both Australia and USA are APEC countries and should qualify.

  2. Thanks for your info,

The problem is not my Non B as that had expired on the 11 June 2006.

I reckon I should just leave in that seven days though and enter on 60 day tourist visa??

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!?!? YOU HAVE BEEN IN THAILAND FOR OVER 1 YEAR ON AN EXPIRED VISA!?!?

IF YOU ARE THERE ON AN EXPIRED VISA YOU BETTER DO THE FOLLOWING....NOW!!!!

HAVING A WORK PERMIT DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO WAIVE GETTING YOUR VISAS RENEWED!!

    1. Get a flight booked to your home country ASAP, because you will be fined for everyday you overstay...I think it is 500thb per day.

failure to pay the fine means you can be held at the Bangkok Immigration Detention Center until you pay it... or if you are REALLY LUCKY and have your ticket on your person be deported or sent home.

    2. If you have your ticket ...keep it on your person... go to the nearest Immigration office... pay the fines... smile alot, apologize alot and hope they will give you a few day extention to get out on your own steam...otherwise they can hold you there until your flight.... and they will charge you for the trip to the airport as well.

If you are there and cannot pay fine, you will most likely get a "non-gratis" stamp in your visa preventing you from re-entry for 2 years.

The only exception I have heard was a few years ago a buddy of mine lost his passport that had an already expired visa... he went to his embassy, had a new passport re-issued and then a short-term visa stamp put into passport.

But I also have heard the U.S. has linked Thailand up with Immigration Control software and network to better track visas entry/exits so that little loop hole might now be closed... but your Embassy will tell you that upon application.

    EITHER WAY... GOOD LUCK!!!

  3. OK...

yes employer will most likely cancel your work permit.... as they are required to so and not be further taxed or in violation

no it does not normally cause your "B" to automatically expire or become invalid as long as you have time left on it.

Just do a visa run on your next scheduled 90 day mark and do not overstay and you should be just fine...

Problem will be when you try to renew the "B" visa when it expires unless you have proper documentation to prove you have business to conduct ro work in Thailand. The Embassies and Consulates are checking them much more closely and verifying information on applications now.

  4. Well in Thailand, there is room for all of us.... just know which one you are so you know how to act accordingly :D

BTW... RUMOR HAS IT THE THAI BAHT MAY HIT 30THB to $1 and all other major currencies... it may be time to buy more baht while they are still at 34thb - $1.

One thing for sure... the baht won't weaken in the next month or so...

long term however once the Thai export manufacturer/markets get slammed and Thai Tourism dips due to prices going up because the Baht strength... we may see another 1997 crash.... 60THB -$1 WOOO HOOOO!!! :o

  5. Normaly it is difficult to get non imm visa outside your own country, near sure you will have to go home to get it.

Not right at all. There's no reason whatsoever that prohibits you from applying and obtaining most visas at any Thai Embassy or Consulate in any country. The ONLY exception is an O-A Non-Immigrant retirement visa.

WHAT ABOUT TYPE "B" Visas? I do not think you can apply for them outside residence country

  6. Well if you do not mind losing your home and possessions to your Thai in-laws (divorce between Thai/Farang is over 80% in Thailand)

If you have kept enough or the majority of your assets outside of Thailand and can survive losing all you have in Thailand

If you would from the bottom of your heart want to give your wife this house and all possessions in Thailand...

I would say signing title over to them....

    otherwise....

    1. rent

    2. set up a Thai corporation with you as majority shareholder... then you can own up to 1 rai of land but I think you need 10-12 million THB capital in company

    3. Foreignors can own land if they invest over 5 million THB

but in this life...you must make your own decisions

  7. Well I have spent over 8 years in Thailand and 2 of those years as a Buddhist monk. I have seen it from all sides.

My experience is is your friend is more trying to impress Thais with his Thai ways they laugh..sometimes at him, sometimes with him for trying... but he will be looked at as a farang trying to be the "big man" on campus.

You can usually pick them out, they really enunciate their Thai words loud enough that pretty much everyone in the village can hear them, make a number of mistakes when they "wai" the wrong way to the wrong social order. A wai to the night market pad thai lady is embarassing because it means he has lowered his status below hers, even though his intention was to show respect to an elder... unless he personally knew her as a community leader, mother-in law etc.

The successful ones usually maintain at least 50% of their own cultural posture, learn enough of the language to speak fluently, the understand the culture to know when to wai, or bow when walking between two people or in front of them, the show respect to all things that are Thai, but maintain a sense of " I love and respect all things Thai, however I am a westerner and as proud of my culture as you are yours, therefore, I will always be me".

    Thais respect this more.

    Consider this?:

How would we look at a Thai man in full American Cowboy dress with hat speaking English with a western accent, Barvarian/German Lederhosen with a German accent and yodeling, or in the City of London dressed in pinstripes will brawly and bowlerhat and an east end accent?

JUST THE THOUGHT OF IT WILL BRING A SMILE.... so the Thais are not really much different than we are.

However, your friend might have gone a little over the top trying to be something he could obviously never fully be.

It is those few farang that so fully integrate that nobody knows they are not Thai.

Kind of like Mel Gibson...is he American or Aussie?

  8. SUGGESTIONS ON GETTING: Non-Immigrant Type "B" visa NOT FOR EMPLOYMENT BY A THAI COMPANY

Does anybody know what the requirements are to apply for the 1 Year non-immigrant Type "B" visa if you are not spending full year in Thailand, but extended stays of more than 90 days?

I am a Photojournalist (which causes its own problems getting visas) and I also do a significant amount of Import/Export of products from Thailand, China, Indonesia, Phillipines and Japan.

In the past I only needed a letter from my company, a letter from a prospective Thai company I want to do business with, photos, application, fees.

It seems like they are asking for much more.

But the Thai Consulate is not clear on providing me with what they really need.

Does anybody know what would make them happy so I can get on with it.

I usually go to Thailand for 60-120 days to work, dive, relax and get some trading done.

Applying for a 90 day tourist visa is a pain and now dangerous since there is no guarantee that I can et a 90 tourist visa renewed and re-enter "back to back".

    SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!!!

  9. ANY Suggestions besides ROMANCE MANSION on other daily/weekly/monthly inexpensive clean accomodation places on Sukhumvit road near BTS Stations?:(6,000-12,000month depending)

I am a Journalist that regularly covers events throughout Thailand and usually stay at Romance Mansion on soi 97 whenever possible unless my assignment provides a larger than normal per diem since I have learned never to use my out of pocket income to pay for accomodation. I like this place since it is a nice quiet place with security, a friendly front desk, now have room service for food from the small shop downstairs.

The only issues are some of the rooms are a little moldy and the tub/shower areas can be pretty bad, the wallpaper is peeling off in places. The shower water pressure is too low sometimes and the shower pull up from the spigot disengages....as well as the water heating unit does not heat the water well enough in the mix.

The bedsheets and blankets are clean but need to be replaced as they are getting a little old.

It is a very good value for the money, except for the fact that it is a slightly inconvenient distance to the On Nut BTS station to either lug a bag or briefcase out to Sukhumvit road about 1/2 km from the hotel to get a taxi or take a motorbike from there which is not always practical when you are in business attire or need not to look like you've just hiked through a jungle.

If you do walk all the way out to Sukhumvit road you may as well save your baht and wait for either the free BTS Bus or an 8 baht blue or red bus to the BTS station.

Please let me know of any places that are woth checking out. Please provide address, phone number, email address and webpage if possible. Email me at [email protected]
