I sees youse already covered it PB....apols!!!

Loaded, the first part of your statements, which I chose not to respond to originally, was false in my experience. In last full year of teaching, I was paid 287,500 baht for one full school year, and had to pay about 87,502 baht for visas. And, I was way, way too illegal. My Thai counterparts made from 216,000 to 396,000 baht per year, and they were legal. In other words, they made more than I did.
We cannot compare Thai teachers to farang teachers. The only similarity is that they are both homo sapiens, teaching in Thailand. Nothing else is the same; nothing of significance
Mate to be fair it didn't really cost you that as you had a holiday at the same time.
You could easily (with my assistance) have done it for less than 30K.....more in line actually with 20-25K (15 months of cover).

Where's the clap clap clap emoticons???
-
I think 12 is the mandatory age no???
I don't know if this will help, but this is the Thai Japanese Association School:
+ 66 2314 7334

9 months to get a WP and around 6 months or so to get the correct Visa.
-
If they know what they're doing you'll have no problems in obtaining a 15 month multiple entry Non-imm B.
-
^ Actually if it's comparable to a degree...it doesn't even need to be a degree.
As 'owners' of the language a degree is not 100% needed.
-
^ Yeah if it's uncertified and has no Uni behind it it can be.
But generally if you can do the job you'll get the job....the TEFL is the icing on the cake.
-
^ Best advice is, as it's different from a normal company (don't need capital or Thai staff the same as with a normal business), to contact the MoE....as you'll need a Thai principal (or someone will) with a relevant degree (English or Ed based I think) etc.
A farang MD would struggle to practice here mate....that's the problemo.
-
^ Mate it can depend entirely on who, what and where you are teaching. It's possible to get a WP without one (as it is with a degree) but sometimes it's not. Same as with the 15 hours....sometimes you'll get rejected 'cos you don't have them....sometimes you won't.
Often this will apply more to language schools. But yeah I know people holding degrees that have been told via their employer by the MoE (or shall we say an individual at the MoE) that they must have one.
This is the problem mate....no one (including those at the MoE) really knows what's 100% needed as nothing really is, until it is!
Fun huh???

.
Although it depends on who you speak to there...they can and will turn some down.
Such as?
Such as the ones they don't accept mate.
When?Over the least two months.
Where?Here in Bangkok.
You're creating a scare story that seems to benefit T&T. Why?I've not mentioned any providers mate....I'm just saying they have started turning some down....nowt more, nowt less.
I know the ones that are being recommended, but it's not my place to tell people what not, or what to do.....so they can check themselves.
Do you have any connection to T&T?No, mate I post what I know is all. You'll see I often tell people to do the proper TEFL Int. course etc.
Basically you need to call the department in the MoE that issues the teachers licence....if they won't issue one 'cos of the cert you hold then it really doesn't matter what anyone else there says (that's the problem).
-
^ Spot on mate. I was saying the same thing to a colleague this morning (will copyright it now though to you and send you 5 Baht every time ).
-
He'll get some work....whether he'll be able to do it is a different matter to be honest.
Also the quals depend on who, what and where he is teaching in regards to getting legal.
-
^ Loaded it is happening mate....I'm getting e-mails from some 'worried' peeps. PM me if you like.
Although it depends on who you speak to there...they can and will turn some down.
-
I'm hearing 2K if you have a Non-imm B but no work permit.
I've not heard of anyone being hit anymore than that!
Saying that people do lie
-
No real change as it's not to drive anyone away just to get them on file.
So if you're not blacklisted or wanted....it will be the same old same old.
Actually going by the other site it seems more legalled up people are leaving (or saying they will leave).
-
Actually going by the other site and who is leaving it seems that degreed teachers and legit ones at that are leaving over the non-degreed peeps. Strange!!!
-
Yes, and that's why I kind of wondered about referring an MA in linguistics, with many years of teaching, to that website. Not arguing about that, though.
Got a friend with an MA in linguistics....TEFL....fluent Thai.....works for an agency without a WP!
kenkaniff, I'm an old tax auditor who thinks annual income, or monthly income, is the only thing that pays the bills every month. Language centers, sure, that's how they pay. And part time work, of course.Actually if you work it out it all can boil down to hour by hour....yes you need a certain figure to pay the bills etc. But you need to look at time spent to money earnt really to have a proper idea of the wages and whether a lesser wage at a higher hourly rate (when all is said and done) is better for you.
-
They can and do do it with less days left on the Visa!
It's a conversion not a new Visa per se....so I asume that's why they like you to have enough time left.
-
You'll get a multi if they know what they're doing chap.
-
^ Yeah I know the bloke that runs it.....unfortunately.
Apologies to your friend mate.
-
The Visa changes are really just to get people in file as per the recent transcript.
It won't really effect many people at all, unless you're blacklisted.
Same old same old to be honest.
Actually I've noticed the people it seems to be scaring away are those that are often legit and hold degrees.....strange really!!!
-
A lot of the better jobs are gotten by word of mouth.
Although it's best to look at the hourly rate really as opposed to the monthly rate IMO.
-
Ahh... Thailand, the great leveler!
Mate that is copyrighted you now owe me 100 Baht!!!
Seriously, an international school would probably snap you up. However you should probably try to get hired before you come to Thailand. They usually pay local hires a lot less.Bear in mind while the quals should enable him to get a wicked job at an Int. School....it is also down to how you present yourself as an individual that can get you, or not get you the job.
Met many well qualified people that due to personal reasons let themselves down in regards to this.
Advise About Work Permit.............

^ Sunbelt doesn't really deal with schools....my mate had a meeting with them last week about this...no idea.
Also yes it does matter the level you're teaching. If you're teaching kindy it SHOULD be easier to get a work permit without a degree than if you were at a University (which makes sense really).
IJWT,
Mate way OFF the mark here:
Not really the case at all to be honest. It's easiest it seems for government schools and hardest for language schools. They can't ignore the TL really (government places kind of can but it still needs to go through an educational place (I forget the name) and if you don't have a degree it's still possible to get a TL...you don't not get one if you don't hold a degree.
Often they'll look at experience, background as well as other quals. And to be fair IJWT it actually makes far more sense to issue a TL to someone with a specific teaching qualification than someone with a degree that has nowt to do with teaching...so a bit unfair of you to comment on 'basic' convo classes mate....not everyone that went to Uni is an able teacher, just like not everybody that didn't go is a moron.
And actually going by Geronimo's verifiable course case....it is indeed as much the schools problem as yours if you fight it!!!
