Couldn't happen to a nicer person. Expect we'll have another Falklands row manufactured soon, that's the usual argie political response to discontent at home.

Good News! I mean Thais start to understand the difference between Russians and Ukranians!
His name doesn't sound like Russian nor Ukrainian, and his face too.
He may be a Ukrainian passport holder but actually Tatar or Bashkir by his ethnic nationality?
What a desperate look in his eyes! I wish he was proven innocent...
He has a Tatar name, but so what?
He can say tatar to his freedom then!

Before the bigots chime in, French citizen / Lebanese or Algerian surname : there's a shared history between these countries, so let's not go there this time pls.

I hope the old bloke recovers and they catch the pair responsible.
So not a real Frenchie then, thanks for clearing that up.

Didn't Denise Van Outen go out with him years back, still not as embarrassing as her having that weasle jay kay as an ex though.

I never heard of the guy until the allegations surfaced. He wasn't exactly The Beatles or Olivia Newton John, now was he.
What a loser.
Bet you've heard his music though, unless you never used to watch NFL games or even the Super Bowl. Played at ice hockey games too I believe.

The guy doesn't look Arab to me. He could be an Aussie who converted to Islam. Who knows?
Whatever he is he doesn't deserve another breath.
Agree. Definitely a white Aussie dude. Amazing how some people are trying to imply that he's not, as if it will change anything. The bastard is just evil, nothing to do with his skin color. Feel real bad for the girl and her family. What a horrific way to go.
Should of gone to Specsavers, definitely middle eastern and most likely a Leb.

United States have the highest rate of domestic violence. Fyithai men have to problems beating up a girl/girlfriend/wife ....
Highest reported rate possibly, not too many women willing to report such things in Pakistan, India or pretty much all the middle eastern countries. Certainly not the same willingness to report in Thailand either.

Australia is now a multi-cultural nation
Yep, even got the terrorism to prove it!

Where was the factory foreman while all this was going on
Pouring the drinks ?

Same sort of thing happens all the time on a quiet tuesday afternoon in UK, US, Aus etc, couple in a relationship spend the day getting progressively drunker and more argumentive in the work place, then eventually choose their weapons and try to kill each other.

thai men have to problems beating up a girl/girlfriend/wife ....
Not just the men, my brother in law's been beaten up by his wife in the past, knocked his teeth out.
She looks feisty this one, quite appealing actually.

I do wonder whether the writer intended the double-entendre - they are going to give Prince Philip a Knighthood "for his long history of service down under!"
But seriously folks, can we list the services rendered to Australia by the prince? Oh, sorry, that was the second joke! How stupid of me!
Risked life and limb serving as a Midshipman on a battleship protecting the Australian Expeditionary Forces in WWII.

Why is he pointing at her? He didn't actually witness her committing the offence.
I'm going out on a limb here and guessing maybe it's because she confessed to nicking his phone and it was found in her locker.

Mockery of history?? 99% of Russians think that WWII started in 1941 and know nothing about the Motherland's invasion of Poland in September 1939. They don't even call it the World War. To them it's Great Domestic War (literal translation from Russian).Russian hubris. They made Auschwitz possible when Stalin and the Russians allied with Hitler and invaded Poland in 1939. And then later on the barbarous Red Army murdered over 20,000 captured Polish officers in the Katyn Massacre. Not to mention almost half a century of Russian dictatorship, terror, and killings until the brutes collapsed in 1989.
Or indeed the Red Army invasion of Finland in November 1939

When Tiger Woods came to Thailand friends were excited and proud that he was half Thai, they changed their opinion of him very quickly when he equivocated in an interview.
I don't see how he could equivocate, the facts are undeniable. He has also spoken out with conviction that he is half Thai and half Black not 100% Black as many people tended to think.
No, he's 1/4 Thai, 1/4 Chinese, 1/4 Black, 1/8 Native American and 1/4 White or "Cablinasian" as he calls himself.
That makes him a 1 and 1/8 person. That's pretty unique!
My bad,
1/4 Thai, 1/4 Chinese, 1/4 Black, 1/8 Native American, 1/8 White.

I went to a coffee shop/restaurant on Soi Nernplubwan yesterday that had wild boar on the menu. Nice to know their produce is sourced locally.

Nothing about being a cheapskate, the difference is a couple of beers in some of the bars I go. It's about what's simplest and most convenient.

Much worse has happened to tourists in America...a good number of them have been shot and killed for having the temerity of knocking on someone's front door when they were lost or had a flat tire. Confrontations like this, notwithstanding what may have precipitated it, happen every nite in every tourist destination on earth...especially in commercial sex districts like So-Ho in London or the Reeperbahn in Hamburg. Why should Pattaya be any different?
sanuk711, you just don't get it.... This guy is a tourist not a local. There is a good chance he has been seeing on TV and reading in advertisements about how Thai people are so nice and this being the "Land of Smiles" . There is a good chance he has believed this and thus has lowered his guard and look what happens.... If this was the first time I have seen this I would say fine but I have witnessed it many times here. Never saw any where else in the world things like this happen in tourist areas to foreigners.
And for all you people living in London-- Glasgow--the USA who are all completely safe and sound & nothing like this would ever happen over there-----stay at home, be safe....................For all of you wearing your rosé colored glasses, something like this may someday happen to you. In Thailand it is not a question of will something bad happen it is only a question of when.
..
.
PS & you can donate your rose colored glasses to ttthailand, so he can carry on scaremongering.
I have lived here many years and am street wise so I am more careful but still go out and enjoy.
My Rose color glasses came off after about 5 years. I think until then you still feel like you are on holiday and only see the good.
Codswallop, if someone got kicked unconscious by security with the help of a bunch of bystanders in Soho it would be headline news in London and I don't read that type of news every day. If something like this happened in Soho the guy would be escorted by security to an ATM whether he liked it or not, the security there are professional and interested far more in getting payment than inflicting a good kicking.

My 60 day tourist visa will run out 3 days before I leave, would I be better off just paying 1500 baht overstay at swampy or going through all the rigmarole of getting an extension at Jomtien for 1900 baht.
Will having an overstay cause any future problems like in getting a non imm visa ?
If I apply for extension how many days before visa expires can I apply ?

R.I.P.

I'm pretty sure if the King of Thailand convinced his citizens that their country is in danger of being overrun by western powers they would surely get up and get shit done to prevent that. This is what happened in Japan.
Thailand/Siam was in far more danger of being overun by Western powers in the 19th century than Japan with it's natural defence of being islands, in fact parts of it were overun. How comes they didn't "get up and get shit done to prevent that"

I don't know how far back you want me to go but I'll start post WWII to explain why Japan out designs Thailand.
Then tell us what Thailand designs and builds like Kawasaki Heavy Industries etc!Stereotypic nonsense the result of an education found in bars instead of institutions of higher learning. Why not drop the stereotypes and talk about something that you all know for sure. Can you all contrast the education systems of Thailand and Japan and tell us about the differences? Tell us about the number of governmental changes in Japan as opposed to Thailand. Tell us about the institutionalized monopolies of Japan as different or the same as the ones in Thailand. Stop pitching the BS and concentrate on facts.
1. Legal monopolies to assist efficient production. 2. MacArthur provided constitution eliminating feudalism. 3. Billions of dollars of aid were provided by the United States. 4. The economy was significantly altered. Land reform undermined the power of the large landholders. 5. The vertical integration of the industrial zaibatsu was replaced by the horizontal coordination of the keiretsu, and family control was replaced by bureaucratic control responsible to broad communities of stockholders. 6. Government policies were created to promote scientifically based innovations in industrial technology.
Embracing Defeat: Japan in the Wake of World War II by John W. Dower
It comes down to a few things. Japan lost WWII and MacArthur re wrote society and industry. He changed Japan from a feudal society to an industrialized society. The took the power away from the rich land owners and gave it to the government/people by way of a new constitution.
Thailand could be the same as Japan but similar changes that happened to Japan would have to happen in Thailand for that to occur.
Japan was already way ahead of Thailand industrially pre WWII. Look at the armaments Japan produced, a fleet of state of the art aircraft carriers, the biggest battleships ever built, zero fighter planes. Did Thailand/Siam produce anything modern at all back then ?
