  1. Hi,

I did mine on the 22nd December and managed to get it done the same day. Yes there are signs saying the express service is suspended and it will take 4 days. My now wife explained we needed the express service and was there any way it could be done, the girl at the help desk sent us into the supervisors office on the left to ask, we went in there and she wrote on the paper and said no problem, we then went back to the helpdesk and was given our number to wait, 2 hours later I was out of there.

Its worth a try and maybe ask to speak with the supervisor.

  2. Hi,

Best thing to to about accomodation is to just get here book into a cheap hotel for a few days and have a good look around and talk to people, there are loads of houses / bungalows with great facilities around the island at good prices for people that rent monthly.

Don't worry about anything, you can get everything you need in Samui....You will love it!!

  3. I experienced this 2 or 3 checks flying from Samui with a connecting international flight a month ago, after the 1st check point I did glance back to see that you can actually avoid it by going to the left as though you were collecting luggage, walk passed the check piont, (so its on your right) then join the others going to international transfer that have been through the 1st check....

It may have changed since I was there a month ago though!!

have news for you regarding the sizzler, although to be honest the leasing and contracting the place are still in negotations. Heres what I Know. My friends wife actual works for minor ( minor is the company that has the pizzy company, anantara hotels, dealing with sizzler, etc ) anyways I was told by her they had actually contacted 1 place in chaweng. Its the shop across from khaosan bakery that 3 story building that sells clothes and t-shirts. But like I said negotations are still ongoing hope helps

Thanks thats great news if it comes off....

  5. I had to get mine done again last week as the first one I got was in Jan 09, we tried to use it in November and they wouldnt marry us.

The woman in the British Embassy said to me that they don't put an expiry date on as it's up to Thai authorities who marry you.

At the same time a guy was in there doing his again, he was told in Chiang Mai it was valid for 3 months yet I was told at the Ampur in Koh Samui 6 months.

My advise would be get married as soon as you get it to avoid any more problems.

You could have married loads of times since 2007 Ha!!

    Good Luck

  6. Royal Thai Police: Motorists caught drink driving over the New Year's holiday will be jailed immediately up to a year in a bid to reduce road accidents.

51 deaths from road accidents nationwide reported on 2nd day of 7 dangerous New Year's holiday days, raising the total number to 91.

After reading a few reports that police are cracking down on drink driving and anyone over the limit of 50 milligrams of alcohol in their blood would be immediately arrested and jailed - Has anyone seen or even ecxperienced this in Samui yet?

Would be interesting to see if this action will be taken here too?

  7. Hi,

I am plannning a day trip over into Laos across the 2nd Friendship Bridge, I hear that a Thai can enter for the day without a passport if they show their ID card and fill in a form to get a so called Day Pass. Is this true and does anyone have any experience doing this?

    Thanks

  9. I brought a diamond ring from the UK for my Mrs, in the box with the certificate just in my hand luggae and didnt even think about declaring it until I have seen this post.....!!! Who will know it's there anyway?? I am sure if I was actually stopped by customs I would explain the exact reason that I am proposing to my girlfiriend and like someone else mentioned they probably wouldnt know the difference between that and a cockroach!!! I am sure they would congratulate you and send you on your way!!!!

I did the exact same thing with our wedding rings and had no trouble!!

  10. Hi,

Definitely get both passports and keep them valid, it's only 1,000B for the Thai passport but you will need to go to the Ministry Of Foreign Affairs for it and not the Amphur.

I have both passports for my step son and he can come and go to England & Thailand as much as he wants......I just wish the Mrs had 2 it would be a lot easier!!!

As far as the national services goes my Mrs says (ha!!) he won't need to do it, but I would be interested in a definate answer to that myself!

  11. Hi,

Will she be working in the UK when she get's there? If so what kind of job? If she wants to work in a hospital, school or any kind of care work she will need a police clearance certificate so it may be useful to get in Thailand from the police then get it translated to English.

I think she will need to go to her local police station to get the ball rolling, and knowing Thailand as I do I am sure there will be a charge and lots of waiting around!!!

Good luck and I hope all goes well

  12. I know a great barber my Mrs sends the kids to, he is always busy and seems to do a good job cheap......Im not sure how good his english is, or how good your Thai is but you can give it a go....

He does it from home, if you turn down the ghost road at the 7-11, go past The Hut on your right, then there is an independant shop on your right, just after there on your left there is some shop units when they end turn left into Chaweng Park Way 4, you will see a fairly new development, the guy's house is on the first row you see in front of you and it's all shaded with plants, trees etc, it's either the first or second house, you will probably see motorbikes parked outside and he uses the front of his house as the barbers shop.

  13. I went through all this with my Mrs a few months ago...If the Xray is clear and the doctor is 100% happy TB is not there you will get the certificate there and then the same day....In my case we could see some marks on the X Ray and she had to go back to IOM near Patpong for the next 3 days to give a sputum sample then we had to wait 8 weeks. When the 8 weeks were up we got a phone call to come and get the results, she was clear and we had to fly back to Bangkok from Samui to get the results, they won't tell you over the phone or post you have to go in person. Now we have the certificate and it's valid for 6 months.

So the upshot it, if your Xray is clear, then same day if not its a 2 month wait....

  14. Hi,

My stepson has both a UK and a Thai passport he is 11 now and I need to know if there is an age limit to having 2 passports or dual nationality. I have heard many different opinions on this, that he will need to give 1 up when he gets to 14 or 16. Does anyone know what will actually happen.

We plan to be living in the UK in the next couple of years

    Thanks
