  1. I also attempted this w/ the local 5-0. ( population of around 100 in the local village, in the middle of the jungle, out far away in the sticks) At first, they just kinda looked at me dumbfounded.... and after reading some SOP on the subject in the manuals.. they told me to go to immigration to do that.

    Immigration could have cared less.

I registered once with CM immigration with the "residence notification" ( actually had the landlord do it..when the big push was on for it around 2 years ago..) and when I again tried that when I moved, Immigration told me.." you live next to my old girlfriend, so I know where you are and no need for me to do any paperwork..."

  2. If found guilty of a drug offense he will get deported anyway

Is this true ? I'm pretty sure I've read of cases in the past where people get a fine for possession of 'weed'.

Yeah, I'll I've ever heard about is small fine, probation, and sometimes mandatory drug counseling

for the thais maybe, not for fralang

    Incorrect.

Same applies to Aliens as to Thai.

Not normally deported, small fine ( approx:2,500 THB is the norm ) and a years probation. ( just remaining out of trouble..)

This is the norm, but as anything goes...

( this was also the case of a young alien arrested for the big H in a small quanity up north around a year and a half ago, but with the "new" "war on drugs" things could change for the dog n pony show. Uncle is the Numba 2 man at Narcotics Control Board in BKK who varifies this and also the criminal judge who resides across the street from FIL/MIL also. )

  3. The wife and I just went through the "green card" procedure.

If you are legally married, US Immigration does not have a problem with her education level, or an age problem ( unless it's like you're 65 and she's 18 ) and if you are retired and make over 18k in a year... another no problem.

Easy, peasy process, ours took 5 months.

One thing I learned quickly w/ the US Immigration process.... Do not use or listen to a lier..oops, a lawyer.

  4. Yes, the owner is required to report any "alien"crazy.gif within 24 hours with immigration. There is a form to do so. Very seldom enforced but if it is, the owner/landlord is subject to the fine...not the alien.crazy.gif

There is no cost for the owner to register the aliencrazy.gif

But... the way that it normally works, like anything else, the aliencrazy.gif will be asked to pay the fine.

( my landlord had no clue about this when I lived in Chiang Mai and we eventually convinced her to register us, which took all of 10 minutes.)

  5. we have 2 jungle dogs.. Moowan & Moochem. ( sweet & salt pork )

One of the neighbors poisined Moochem last year and he's buried next to the klong on the far side of the property.

Moowan likes to go for runs with me, hang out in the road...

He got nailed by a car earlier this year and is now just gettin back to his normal self.

  6. We have 'em all the time!

Just my house and a neighbor.

    3-4 times per week.

I'm in a small village outside Prachin and we have brown outs numerous times per week. ( I'm in the US currentlybah.gif)

The only thing that works is the fan in the bedroom and turns at 2 revolutions per hour

Complaints were made to the village chief and within 2 months and some extra funding, the electricians came out and found it was a transformer right in front of our house.

    Fixed it.

Now when there is a brown out, the whole village has it instead of just us.

    The joy of sharing.

  7. quote]

Actually, it's not the quiet life that I dislike, just that Pattaya has spoiled me. The thought of never seeing those oh so cute laydees on Walking St again is a bit depressing.

If the village actually had a karaoke bar it wouldn't be so bad, but it's too small even for that!

I just think that if I don't have something constructive to do, I'll get bored, and that might cause a few problems with myself and the beloved, so I'd like to avoid that.

I see more beautiful and friendly "laydees" out here in the little village than I ever did in either BKK or CM. Stunning ones.

  8. Got me started and I cannot stop....blink.gif

The acft he was flying is registered as P51D USAAF # 44-15302 -lost 09 Apr 1945.

Cpt. Albert Abraham was assigned to the 2d Fighter Squadron Commando, 2d Air Commando Group, 10th Air Force.

I found 1 page describing the actions that day over Don Muang in "Air Commando Fighters of World War 2" ( ISBN 1-58007-022-1) Ed Young , page 81. Cpt Abraham is noted in the forward as providing the details of his shoot down in 2000, so he has lived a long life. Unknown if he is still alive.

" Captain Abraham led the last flight across the field and then pulled up to look for a target. A 40mm shell took out his cooling system. He flew past the airfield and bailed out."

  9. I found this..

    Yank Internees Recall Courtesy

CALCUTTA - Six American airmen, interned by the Thailand government after being shot down by ground fire while on bombing and strafing missions, calmly related here the kind and generous treatment afforded them, after their release last week.

The six airmen are: Capt. Albert Abraham, Marshall, Tex.; Lt. Malcolm MacKenzie, Greenville, S.C.; Lt. Dean E. Wimer, Sheridan, Wyo.; Lt. Theodore H. Demezas, Silverton, Ore.; S/Sgt. Laurel D. Kinsey, LaPorte, Ind., and Lt. James K. Kintz, Chicago, Ill.

All six airmen, now convalescing at the 142nd General Hospital in Calcutta, narrated the same story of good and plentiful food, sufficient reading material to while away the time, the matter of work being 'optional.' Five of the airmen, fighter pilots, and a ball turret gunner of a B-24 Liberator, were held prisoners at Vachirawaud College in Bangkok, capital of Thailand.

At Bangkok, where 32 prisoners were interned - the six Americans, 19 British, 2 Chinese and five Thai army privates - kept current with the news through a concealed radio, smuggled into the camp some three years previously. Generous portions of curie, rice, chicken, fish and eggs were served the prisoners three times daily. At the hospital they all tipped the scales at their "flying" weight.

Through the Swiss consul, they were loaned money to purchase soap, razor blades, tobacco and cigarette paper. However, the high cost of clothing found the airmen strutting about in shorts most of the time. High price of commodities restricted purchases (one razor blade cost 65 cents) and found one airman using 10 blades in 16 months.

The airmen had the "liberty" of the camp, could move about freely and could work if they desired. Most of their time was spent utilizing the vast amount of reading material which was at their disposal from the library, which was part of the college. Such books as Gone With The Wind and others published up to 1942 were available.

All had the occasion to taste raisin gin, Indo-China rum and even had beer - which wasn't too bad, as they expressed it. Through the Danish consul, athletic equipment, including baseball gloves, was available. They learned the popular game of cricket - "handling the stick as a baseball bat," they enthusiastically chimed.

  10. Go ahead to CM and find your place.

Look for large trucks around BKK with signs painted on them for rent.

You can bicker price with them but normal is for 1 night with food lodging for the crew of 2 and return fuel.

I searched low and high for a moving company/truck when moving from CM to Prachin 2 years ago and never found one.

Maybe U Haul could do a spanking business here...

I finally had my FIL drive his p/u up from BKK and move my stuff down.

    anyway..good luck

  11. It's not over yet! ph34r.gif On to the Garden.

Agreed. It ain't over until the fat lady sings, and I ain't hearing her singing just yet. If the Canucks get a split in Boston I think they'll wrap it up, but if the Bruins win both games in Boston it's anybodies cup to win.

but they way Boston has been playing in the last 2 games.. I'd say you're finally gunna have the cup up there. ( I can't believe I just typed that, a Bruins fan of almost 60 years...)

  12. Ian, I am starting to understand why certain posters have issue with your posts. You love life. You only live in places that you enjoy and avoid places that you do not and you have a generally positive outlook. Maybe you should do more moaning and whinging so that you will fit in better on the forum :ermm:

roflmao... <deleted> Canadians just give em a beer and a hockey game and they'll never complain:)

That's only partially true. You should hear them complain when their 10 million dollar goalie lets in a puck that he MIGHT have stopped had he not made a tiny mistake.

Right now I'm EXTRA happy because our Vanvcouver Canucks are 2 games away from winning the Stanley Cup. After beating Boston last night there was dancing in the streets for 3 hours after the game. :D

  13. and the law won...

No, not at all. Both parties (driver and police) where 'winners'. Paying 200 is cheaper and less time consuming than going to the station. I like corruption............And many of you should stop wining that you don't...

    Regards, Raggs'

I cannot say I like corruption, but . . . 200 in his pocket OR going to the station . . . just imagine what it would have cost you back home, WHEREVER that is! How can ANYBODY complain? I recently got a photo radar ticket -- 133 kph in an 80 kph zone, fine, 400 ThB (about $13US) pay at post -- back in the good ole U.S., it would have cost well over $1,000US and may well have landed my ass in jail! I love this place!

It wouldn't have cost anything back home. Not having your licence is not a crime; however, you would be expected to produce your licence at a Police Station within a week if requested.

Everybody knows - This is simply the BIB making lazy money on easy targets. If they really cared about upkeep of the law a lot more would be done in other areas of frequent traffic voilations i.e. light jumping, overloaded pickups, unsafe driving, blocking box junctions etc....But enforcing many of these infractions takes too much time and effort for the Police who take the easy and lazy option. It's the hipocracy and imbalance that p!sses people off.

Not to be a shit but,

    Back home...

    AZ Revised Statues Title 28.1075.b

You can be arrested without having proper identification while driving.

    it IS a criminal citation.

Nothing different here..just where they put the money once it's in their little rat claws.

  14. Astonishing!

I wonder how Bkk could have survived into this century without Zambonis?

Could it be related to the lack of toboggans on the northern slopes of Doi Inthanon? The appalling absence of skis at Doi Suthep? Or maybe the fact that there is no 'luge' in Loei?

    Sorry.

Having got the whimsy out of the way, the only possible help I can give is that the Kad Suan Kaew shopping centre, Huay Kaew Rd, Chiang Mai, had an ice rink. I don't even know if it's still there because, although we live close by, I don't like the place or the Tops (so called) supermarket underneath it.

But if you are prepared to do some detective work, who knows, they may know?

That rink shut down like 7 years ago..or more.
