  1. I have eaten there twice.

The first time was when Julian the Swiss manager was in charge of the place and the food was ok. The setting was nice and the service good.

The last time I ate there will be my last time as the quality of the food and the selection has gone rapidly downhill. The desert menu is good, I have to admit that but you can get almost everything else out on the street for 25 Bt.

The trick with the pizza is - go to the salad bar and get the ham, olives , peppers .... from there and present them on a plate to the pizza maker. They only offer cheese and cheese and hotdog varieties so with a little bit of work you can get yourself a great pixzza.

The price has gone up by the way and they charge a few taxes on top of what they advertise.

As I said, I wont be going back.

  2. only slightly off topic......brought back some toys from Oz last month. They were picked up by the carry-on bag x-ray at Sydney airport. The inspector fished out a phallus-shaped vibrator from my bag, held it above his head for everyone to see and said "What's this ?". "Geez, I dunno mate. What do you think it is ?" I replied.

I had a similar experience in London a few years ago. I had packed a present for my then GF in my check in luggage and was picked out of the check in line for a random baggage check. A woman was also knabbed and we were both taken to xray machines wher ethe bags were inspected. My bag went through first, the stopped, then moved back on the bely and then forward again and then the guy called his mates over and were having a good laugh while looking not at me but the lady who was also there. They assumed the bag was hers... :)

Near the enterance to Patpong there is a guy with a stall and he charges an insane amount for a piece of plastic that shakes. It tought o haggle for an item like this on Silom road especially since everyone who walks by knows what you are getting. Most people just tell hime to shove it in a bag and give him the money, I told hime to F off and bought elsewhere. Easier to get a gun I reckon.

  3. I am sure that there is more to this story than meets the eye.

My guess is that he was trying to bilk the insurance company out of some money so he could continue his onward round the world trip and that he got caught.

Perhaps he ran out of money because he had not factored in the cost of doing a visa run every 15 days or that he helping some local girl out because her water buffalo was sick.

  4. Quote :

He did not become a hero by killing babies. He became a hero by refusing to return home before his men when offered a special deal by the Vietnamese. He had been tortured for years and still does not have full use of his arms and he knew that he could easily die in Hanoi before the war would end.

I dont want it to look like I am picking on you UG, but doesnt his story sound a little like that of another great American here, Jessica Lynch.

Did she not fight off 100 heavily armed iraqi soldiers by using her bra as a sling shot after her ammo ran out and then she was tortured and kept in inhumane conditions until her " rescue ".

She too was a hero, well until the truth came out anyway.

I was in Vietnam many years ago at the Hanoi Hilton and took some photos of the photos there on display. One of them is of Mister frozen french fry himself and he looks pretty happy in it.

I am sick of listening to his story, its as old as he is and he is just pandering to the sympathy vote.

I have not heard Obama tell stories about how hard it was growing up bi-racial in America, perhaps he should and pander for that vote.

Question is, who is the most qualified to lead the country now based on their experiences relating to the job and not on things that happened to them wayyyy in the past.

Clinton is a hero in my books because he seduced his 19 year old plump intern but I would not vote for him because of this.

  5. " I've been to Spotlight and have been to Spiceys on more than a few occasions but any conversations I have about it would be in the right place at the right time with the right people. "

I think that if you search the word " Spicey" and "Spotlight" on the Chiangmai forum you will see references to them come up as many times as if you searched for Best Burger, baked beans or dog bites.

This deffinately is the right place, it was the right time as if I didnt mention it someone else would have picked up on it. Regarding the " right person " , its an open forum and my comments were not offensive as only someone here in chiangmai would have gotton the joke. You just made a big deal about it.

" Sleeping with a Bar-Girl is like a box of chocolates , you never know what you are going to get !!'

( joke, humour, not serious ) try a different dictionary.

"not only implies that you here for one thing, but also that you think that most other people are too. "

Strike 2, another personal insult from Mr. Hunt. How does this imply that I am here for one thing. I actually i like forrest gump and chocolates. I will change it later for you and add a passage from the bible.

See you all in Spotlight later, I will be the guy overpaying for the table tennis balls :o

  6. I can't help you out with the lawnmower or the table tennis table BUT if you are looking for table tennis balls then you can pick up a basket of 10 of them at Spotlight for just under 1000 Bt.

It's pretty obvious why you are here, and equally obvious that the same isn't true of those posting the question.

Is your reply relevant or approprite?

Just out of curiosity .... what do you want to be when you grow up?

A slight over reaction there Mr. Hunt ?

Lighten up, it was a JOKE ( check dictionary for details ), no need to be so rude.

I think my posting is typical of what I see on this forum and it was only a matter of time before some other smart ass posted something similar.

  7. Thanks for the link TTM, I was hoping to fins the holy grail of answers in that link but it seems that there is no concrete way of doing this.

I will give Daiken a call now and see what they have to say.

For those of you who are interested, I have a card attached to the key so that when he leave the apartment the electric to the AC gets switched.

Recently I have been getting complaints from other tenants in the building about the tenants Penguins making alot of noise.

  8. Having found the perfect tenant at the price I was asking, I agreed to cover the utilities as he is out of town on business alot. I figured that it could not be that expensive.

I visited the guy a few times to check in on how he was doing and each time he had the temperature on the remote set to 19 degrees !!

I have visions of him wearing a coat and drinking hot chocolate in the apartment while laughing with his friends.

His contract is up soon but for future reference :

Is there such a thing as an Air Con remote control unit that can be adjusted so that the minimum temperature it can go down to is 25 degrees ?

The Air Con is a Daiken.

I am sure that anyone who has kids wirth AC in their rooms would also love something like this.

  9. "Not all police will accept such cash in hand fines, so tread with care."

I do not understand the "tread with care"...if they will not let you pay the fine there, they will give the money back, keep your id, and tell you that you have to go to the station.

You will not get in trouble for trying to pay the fine on the spot.

I tried that trick last week with a 500 bill and the officer promptly returned my licence to me and pointed out the money. I ended up getting fleeced for 2000 at the station. Sometimed they know what the ticket is worth.

  10. Here here,

Get rid of the scum !!!

how do you define scum old chap?

Are people who sell alcohol to others in the same boat?

Is hilltribe farmer who knows know better way to feed his family, scum?

Are the legal fag dealers, the ones who target kids, scum?

Yours is the typical base reaction,

You simply cannot class everyone the same way. I might call people who makes simple spelling errors moron,s.

    Uneducated, low class fools.

But they,ve probably suffered something in life to prevent them from getting it right.

By the way, you should of been ' hear, hear.

    See, we all makes mistakes.

    In answer to your quote/questions.

1.Scum would be the drug dealers who induce other persons to grow, sell, traffic or use an illegal substance.

    2. Alcohol is legal and those who sell it to minors are scum.

    3. The hilltribe farmer did grow food for his family and others until scum came and made an offer of a lot of cash if he grew plants which could be turned into drugs.

    4. Cigarettes are legal and yes the person selling them to minors is scum, I presume you mean cigarettes when you say fag, as the term fag commonly refers to homosexual?

    5. I would not class anyone, as an uneducated low class fool if they makes spelling mistakes.

    6. How is spelt with a capitol when starting a sentence. Moron's is not spelt with a comma.

The death penalty is still given in Thailand for drug dealers who sell, deal or are in posession of a certain ammount of an "A" Class drug. I am all for the death penalty, as there are enough warnings all over the country and the world for that matter, that state the death penalty will be enforced.

" How is spelt with a capitol when starting a sentence. "

    :o:D

  11. Can anyone recommend from experience a good and competant lawyer in the Chiangmai area ?

I have read the list on the services page but it seems outdated.

Looking for someone with a good working knowledge of english as my Thai is poor.

  12. It's already started out here in the outskirts of CM. Kids mostly wasting precious water. Makes me wonder how the mooban water system will handle the increased demand with all the klongs dried up??

No water for washing....mai phen rai!!

Not to worry about the water too much this year. Since rice is expected to reach 8750 Bt a kilo in the next week or so there will be alot less cooking and alot more water to throw about.

Regarding the pre festive water throwing, some falang came close to me kicking the **** outa him when he and a few of his drunken buddies threw water over me and my laptop this morning. They are hanging out across from the malaria hospital on the klong. I expect they will piss someone off today and end up floating in it later.

I gotta get a gun, my weapon of choice is banned and possession of it carries a fine similar to that of having yaba. The old 10 litre tank on my back, the pvc pipe with a range of 5 meters. In the good old days when you hit someone, it stung.

  13. And here was I thinking that only Ned Flanders and Magnum wore Hawaiian shirts.

I have one if you want, due to my over indulgance on Moo Kat Taa and Chang draft beer it no longer fits me. I think its a triple X as well.

Keep in mind though that when you see XL on a Thai t shirt its actually XL for them not you. I had some guy offer me something like an XXXXL shirt once, it fitted great but i was too asamed to buy it cause of all the X's.

  14. If you PM me I will give you the address of my relatives in Issan who have over 19 water buffalos. They would be more than happy to part with a similar version of Fox News that accumulates in the field at the back of their house.

Looks slightly different than the original but deffinately smells the same.

  15. About 2 years ago, give or take a few months I signed on the dotted line to purchase some property valued over 3 million Baht. At that time I qualified for an investors visa but things have now changed.

The question is : Since I committed myself to the purchase of property over 3 million before the law changed ( Signed on the dotted line , gave deposits ....... ) surely that would qualify me for the investors visa or at least to get me grandfathered in ?

Any comments or does anyone know if there is a change coming in the future ?

  16. I have an old goat if that would help ?

Well not actually a goat per say, its my mother in law. I am sure that if you let her loose in your garden and tell her that you have buried twenth baht there somewhere you could get the job finished in a few hours.

Another added advantage is that your lawn will look great after a few weeks from all the ashes she disgardes from the cherootes she smokes.

  17. Most of the animals there have already been eaten but a new herd of endangered Giraffe are on their way from Africa i was told.

It is still possible to order Kow Pow Crocodile, Tom Ka Wilderbeast and the World Wildlife all youi can eat buffet.

The Chief there told me that they ordered a large snake and it arrived in Bangkok yesterday. It will be in Chiangmai in a few days.

  18. Well BB, If that foto is of a bike you have in your garage gathering dust then I will be over later with 12.000 THB . I know I know its alot to pay for an old bike, but you seem to have kept it well.

Seriously, looking for something from 1997-2001, that about in my price range.

Seems like there is only 2/3 of them in CM these days and they have more miles on them than a Patpong Bar girl.
