  1. hi maizefarmer

I do not no the breed/mix the semen like i said is ocean. We bought our cow stock of local thais. We had a stock of 35 milkers but we have lost several calving or just after calving.Lost a few due to seasonal weather change seems to be a common thing in our area.!The rest we have sold off due to mastitas bad milkers and old age i even had a cow that drank her own milk.pitty because she was a beuty of a cow.

By the way i have never been on a farm before my farming venture in thai so like i said this is a learning curve for me.But i will get on top of it.With some help and good advice.

ps I am a engineer by trade

Did you get my pm maizefarmer

Again thanks for all the info

  2. Thanks maizefarmer for your quick and detailed response

the guy in muk lek do you no is number or address ???

1)mean't how old are the cows i.e. are they in their 1st, 2nd, 3rd 4th .. or 10th calving cycle?

the oldest cows are in their 4,5th cycle the majoraty are in the 1st 2nd

    2)

what info are you given regards the origin of the semen - any track record/verification for the bull? Some effort should be made to establish just how this bulls offspring are doing on other dairy farms. The importance of all this lies in that the cows you have now form the genetic pool on which future generations of the herd will be bred - and that is your bread and butter: if it's a crap or average genetic pool then so too will future milk yields be crap or average. You want semen from a bull whose offspring can be seen on dairy farms, and their milk yield records inspected

The semen is given by the vet who works for the co-op.(does ocean ring any bells).but i will try to find out i have been thinking about changing the vet to a independant

3)Okay - and that bag is marked up at 18% is it? - what is the protein base in the bag - do you know if it is fish, or are you telling me it is cassava based?[/i]

I was wrong it is 16% called betagro 004 fish based.peanut coconut maize rapeseed cassava blend.

    4) we have not done any hardness checks on the water.I think its 6" dia borehole 36 mtrs deep but only has a 1hp motor so i think it may have to be changed for irrigation. But on the posotive side we have running water at the bottom of our land but i do not no if it dries in the dry season!!! I think we used it once to grow sweetcorn i still have all the upvc pipe elec motor etc

5)We have got rid of bad sick cows

6)I have just decreased the 22% feed to 16% last month and you are correct their is not a noticeble decrease but we have just dried 2-3 cows

so the decrease i think is that.

7)Yes i would like to meet up at a later date i live in the manchester area.In the mean time i will try to monitor the feed situation.I have several cows due for calving next month.

    8)What !!!!! - thats pretty steep! 22 ton - mositure content or percentage please??[/b

    15 rai 28% 12rai 30% or visa versa

9)Yes you can - and the larger the bulk is the better the price is - but you need to be able to keep it 100% dry and bug free.

Yes i have 2 large storage rooms. What tonnage would be required??.Do you have any contact nos

Thanks again for your time and effort much appreciated.

  3. Thanks maizefarmer for your detailed response

i have grown maize for a cash crop and have harvested 15 rai and 12 rai at a small profit after paying for the cutting and seeding etc i have just cut 12 rai and have planted last month 15 rai i am thinking about using this for the cows.I do not own a tractor so i have to pay for cutting

the land etc.I think you are 100% right about feed costs versis profit. This is why i need info on feed/silage to give myself a chance.I will try to give you some more info

    1) various from 3 -6 months

2)thai cows inseminate at 300-500 baht

3)bagged concentrate bought from the co-op at 415 baht per 50 kilo fed at 1 kilo per 2 kilo of milk as in a previous thread.

4)water is pumped up from a borehole and have troughs near milking shed.

5)30 rai for cultivation.the cows are pened in about 4 rai calves stalled 24/7 cows free to roam when maize was cut.

6)Yes we are calving every year. But some times we have to inseminate several times. We have sold several cows which were old and had consistent mastites even when treated.

    7)simple answer no

8)yes the last several months we have changed concentrate from 22% to 18% removed mansapalang mush and removed bagged katin.we feed now concentrate at 1-2 kilo ratio as in previous threads.4 bags of maize at 30 kilos per bag 14 bails of fang per day

9)cut 15 rai got a yield of 22 ton cut 12 rai got a 15 ton yield as a cash crop.I recently bought 4 rai of maize and had it shreded at a cost of

30000 baht got 360 45 kilo bags currently feeding this to the cows

10)had 1 cow lame had mastitis in several cows but have managed to clear it for the time being

I hope this is enougth info thanks again maizefarmer.

p.s can i buy my concentrates in bulk bagged i do not have a silo.

  4. a bit of information is needed we have 40 rai of land.milking parlor etc.42 cows 25 are milkers the rest are calves. i have read thro all

the forums regarding dairy farmers very good reading.i currently feed our cows concentrate 18% protien mushed cassava looks like mash

potato and fang my milk yieds are around 150 kilo per day only 16 milkers at present the rest are dry ready for calving.i have had the land and cows for 2 years. i am currently in the uk with my wife and have let my wifes family run the buisness with us holding the purse strings

in this time i have not seen a profit only large losses.A few questions i would like to be answered.

    1) what recomended feed concentrate.

    2) what type of silage ie maize and not concentrate or a combination

    3) growing my own feed ie maize and shredding

my farm is in the pak chong area

i have grown maize and sold the cob for 3 baht a kilo at a loss is it better to grow the maize for silage

    thankyou for any replies

  5. Robert,

Because spousal settlement visas do not explicitly mention that the holder is entitled to work, many employers refuse to accept the visa as evidence enough. Your wife does not require a work permit and her settlement visa is sufficient authority for her to work.

You can refer any employer to the following website which contains a number they can ring for confirmation:-

    http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/employers/employersupport/

    Scouse.

    Thanks scouse

    for the info

    best regards

    robert

  6. hi all

a quick question my wife went for a interview this morning and the guy asked if she had a work permit.I was waiting outside

and explained to him she did not need one because my wife has a spouse/settlement visa we showed this to him but he was

addament that she did am i right or wrong also we showed my wifes n.i no

    regards

  7. 1) Your wife can spend a reasonable amount of time out of the UK on holiday, provided she remains based in UK.

    2) Your wife must apply for a Schengen visa to visit Italy but it will be given to her free of charge.

    3) It seems to be the case, certainly in some areas. Absolutely crazy the cost of the course is so exorbitant for the first year at the very time they need to attend.

Thanks for the info mahout Angrit

  8. hi everybody

my wife seems to be enjoying the uk and is settling in well.

    A few quick questions

1.how long can my wife spend out of the uk on her 2 year visa

2.If we went to italy on hol would i have to pay for a visa

also i tried to enrol my wife on a esol course to find all the courses are fully booked up.and the cost ranges from 500-1000 pounds'But after 1 year in the uk

this cost reduces dramatically. Is that right??????

  9. A Big thanks to DAVIES KHAN for preparing my wifes settlement visa application It was worth every penny.

after 2 visit visa refusals I am glad we got professinal help. The only advise i can give is to tell the truth and

all will come good in the end.

After many sleepless nights over the christmas period. And a 1 hour grilling at the embassy. My wife got her visa

    on the 2/01/2008

Thanks to all who posted on this site

    Robert and Wassana

  10. she/we only wanted a visit i was going to retire in thailand in the near future

So a Fiancee visa is not what you need. How near future? It may be better (and cheaper) for you to retire to Thailand, prove that you are both settled there (with rent agreements etc) then apply for a visit visa again. This time totally different circumstances as your relationship (which you must be able to prove) and the fact that you are now based in Thailand will be her reason to return (amongst other things).

    Thanks again mahout angrit

was thinking one to two years but it is food for thougt I did think once i was retired in thai it would be very hard to get a v/v

  11. If you have any evidence of your intended retirement in Thailand, then that may well serve as an incentive for your girlfriend to return to Thailand. You could present the trip as being an opportunity for your girlfriend to see the UK prior to you moving over there. However, you would need to corroborate this.

    Scouse.

    Thankyou scouse

that was my intention whilst i still had plenty of funds But it is very hard to prove you are going to retire to a certain country. However after reading her refusal it sounds like her ex-employer was a bit of a rogue and was known to the embassy !! And the embassy accused her of fabricating her employment to get a v/v

  12. will it be hard to get after two v/v refusals by the way the g/f no longer works at her job i am sending her money to look after the house etc

So the embassy were correct in thinking that your g/f doesn't work at the place who gave her the offer to return.

It will be hard to get any visa if they suspect her of lying on a previous application but under normal circumstances it will be considered but with different criteria. Your relationship and your ability to support her without recourse to public funds will be under greater scrutiny and obviously a reason to return is not relevant.

Does she want to live in UK or does she want to visit, whatever she told the embassy in the interviews will be on record.

    Thanks again mahout angrit

silly thing to do in hind sight but she left her employment 25/05/07 her application was prior to that she had to wait a month for a interview the embassy phoned her employer and he told them she had left and her b/f was looking after her.she/we only wanted a visit i was going to retire in thailand in the near future

  13. I did mention in my sponsorship letter that we intend to marry in thailand in the near future Is a fiance visa similar to a settlement visa ??.

A Fiancee visa is a settlement visa, you would be expected to marry in the UK within 6 months of arrival and stay there.

    Thanks mahout angrit

will it be hard to get after two v/v refusals by the way the g/f no longer works at her job i am sending her money to look after the house etc

  14. HI there banpunket my thai wife and myself had the same problems as you are having ,2 vv visa refused also saying reason for return etc etc, So we then went for a settlement visa which we got, i think maybe you have mentioned they you are going or are thinking off getting married,so they will not issue a vv,Maybe get married and then try for a settlement visa, by then you will have more paperwork photos etc to put in with your appli cation.

And like markr says the reason for return must be sound as a pound,Dont know all off your details,

all the best pete & som let us know what happens

    Thanks cuddleypete

I did mention in my sponsorship letter that we intend to marry in thailand in the near future Is a fiance visa similar to a settlement visa ??.

  15. Banpunket

you need to provide them with a sound reason that your girlfriend will return, and this sometimes proves very difficult!

You'll have a bit of an uphill battle now in all honesty as she has already been refused twice, you need to provide them in detail anything that will support your girlfriends case, they will not help you out in any way the onus is on you to provide them with everything they need!

The letter from her employer needs to look like it means something, i.e on headed company paper written by somebody with authority stating that her job will remain hers untill she returns. Not simply a reference.

She also should provide details and solid proof of property or land that she owns, deeds etc, photos of a house and simply stating that she owns it will not do!

Hope this helps and good luck

    Mark

    Thanks makr

we put in letterheaded company paper and photo copied house and land deeds plus photos!!!!!1. what about trying for a fiancee visa.? The refusal today did not make good reading they did not believe she worked for her boss.

  16. I had the same problem first time they refused on grounds of time of relationship so we sent photos and all that stuff ,, then they refused on grounds of saying she would not return ??? the embassy seems to just like to collect the fees ,, i am going to apply again this year we have been married for 10 months have a home and all so will see what they say this time?? i am intrested in what happins with your question

    Thanks colino

just thought it was me !!!!!!! expensive this visa stuff.?? It seems they have a free hand On issuing visas. You meet one criteria then they change the goalposts Hope everything works out for you.
