  1. Anyone know if fish oil (not liver oil) can be bought by the bottle (not capsual) in BKK?

I guess the answer to the above is NO WHERE!!

I have been looking for the same for months. I have tracked down a company in paragon who are doing the FDA registration for melrose products. They can then import melrose 500ml 18/12 fish oil. Shop is called aus shop thailand, I'm awainting info on time frame.

    cheers

  2. TV footage here:

    Thai protests turn deadly

    Monday 01 September 2008

At least one person died and dozens were injured when opposition demonstrations turned into violent clashes with government supporters in Bangkok. A Thai military commander said 400 troops would be rushed in to help restore order.

BANGKOK - One person is reported dead and at least 35 were hurt in clashes on Tuesday between supporters of Thai Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej and anti-government protesters in Bangkok, a Health Ministry official said.

The official could not confirm television reports that one person had been killed in the skirmishes near Government House, occupied since last week by protesters demanding Samak's resignation.

The pro-government crowd broke through several lines of riot police to confront members of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) near the prime minister's official compound.

The two sides threw stones and wooden planks at one another before additional riot police moved in to separate them.

Live TV coverage showed one man lying on the ground with a small pool of blood next to his head.

Government supporters said shots were fired during the skirmish, but it was not clear by whom. A Reuters reporter at the scene saw two bullet casings lying on the pavement.

About 400 Thai troops were ordered to Bangkok. "Soldiers must leave the barracks to help restore peace," army commander Anupong Paochinda told Thailand's TPBS TV as the four companies of troops armed with shields and batons arrived at the scene.

  3. You have two choices.

Multi entry non immigrant ED visa with no extensions of stay. Each visit 90 days or less. You have to leave country every 90 days but no re-entry permits involved. New visa required every 15 months.

Single entry non immigrant ED visa that you extend for 1,900 baht every 90 days at Immigration. No limit (for years) but you must present proof of study each time. For travel a re-entry permit required and you would have to return before current 90 day extension was up.

thankyou very much for the reply.

    That has cleared things up.

I notice on immigration website, looking at fee structure.

    Re-entry endorsement: 1,900.00

    Application for Re-entry permit:

    • Single entry: 1,000.- Baht

    Do both fees apply?

  4. What type of ED study? If language only 90 day extensions of stay are possible. The rules for converting tourist visa to non immigrant visa requires 21 days ramining on permitted to stay stamp and meeting requirments listed click Change Visa using IE or IE Tabs.

A multi entry non immigrant ED visa would not require re-entry permits for travel.

    Thanks for the reply Lopburi3.

Yes it would be a language type Ed visa. For the purpose of having to travel every 6 months, for one month at a time (on a 90 day extension of an ed visa)

would a double entry visa be required when I apply overseas or would the re-entry permit arranged before I depart the kingdom suffice ?

ED visa (for language study) can only be extended for 90 at a time 3 times in a year or am I missing soething?

    Thanks again

  5. Hi Guys.

    Aus nationality

    Several questions regarding Ed visa.

I am currently on a 2 x 60 day tourist visa, have extended the first visa by 30 days and will re-enter to activate the second visa within the next week or so.

    From this sticky http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Immigration-...-Des-t3139.html

it states: Note 3: If you are in possession of a valid tourist visa or a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp and qualify for extension of stay and plan on doing so, you may be permitted to change to a non-immigrant visa at an immigration office inside Thailand. This change of 'status' has certain restrictions depending on your particular circumstances therefore you should check with an immigration officer first.

    Is this in fact possible?

Secondly. I need to return to aus every 6 months for certain commitments.

If I obtain an ed visa from consulate in Aus (with all qualifying docs) is it nesescary to apply for a multiple/double entry to allow for travel out of the kingdom twice a year or would a re-entry permit from within the kingdom suffice and what are the fees for said re-entry permit?

Speaking of fees, on the 1 year extension of the Ed visa, is 90 reporting a requirement and if so are their fees attached.

    Many thanks and cheers

  6. How much are you looking for? CP has a fish meal factory in Mahachai and I've bought fish oil from them.......200 liters! If you're interested I will dig out the phone number for you.

    rgds

Would be interested in info on the quality of his for use as a dietary supplement, though I would not want to commit to such a quantity without knowing more about the process first..

    Thanks for the info..

  7. Thanks for that info, I feel a little relieved to know that it is not uncomon to have "1" and "2" written on the visa.

I'm certain the visa is valid, its the 2nd visa I have received from the thai consulate general in Australia.

As to the dates. the permitted to stay is stamped 30 jan 2008, the "visa to be utilised by.." date is april 9th 2008 so by my math this means I should be out and back in to the kingdom by jan 9th at the latest to be able to get the 2nd 90 day stamp..

    Thanks again guys.

No, the "visa to be utilized by.." date just means that you have to use the second "entry" by that time. You can come in on April 8th, and stay for 90 days. You do not have to be back out by that date, just have to have entered the country by that date.

So you can stay until Jan 30, then make your border run, come back in on Jan 30, and stay for 90 more days, because the date your visa has to be used by is after Jan 30.

    Jim

    now I am completely confused.

If my visa is "to be utilised by april 9th" I can come into thailand on the 8th and stay a further 90 days?

Visa was issued on 9th october 07 and stamped "must be utilised by 9th april 08" I took that to mean I must be out of the country by the april 9th... this is not the case?

  8. lupin,

In the distant past when I used double entry Non-O's the officer usually wrote 1 AND 2 on the visa page at my first entry but also wrote the date of my first entry after the "1". On second entry the date was written after the "2" and the visa was stamped USED.

I guess the officer just forgot to write the date of your first entry after the "1" -- no problem!

Since the officer told you explicitly that he/she gives you 90 days I'm wondering about the validity of your visa.

Make very sure that the validity …"this visa must be utilised before ……." date is LATER than the date on your entry stamp (permitted to stay until..)! If not you may have to cut short your first 90 days in order to utilize the second entry of your visa.

  9. By writing 1 the officer is noting that you have used one entry.

After 90 days you must leave Thailand, but you can come back the same day, if you wish

and you will get the second 90 days.

At that stage the officer may well write or stamp USED over your visa.

    Thanks for the info

Thats what bothers me, the officer has written "1" AND "2"... but no other stamp or writing indication USED on the visa page.

    Ceers

  10. Pete, it would be interesting to learn why you got a double entry Non-O-Visa. Was your passport not valid long enough?

    1. If your present visa does not carry an overriding stamp "Used", then it is still valid until the date where it says …"this visa must be utilised before ……."

    2. Next to your visa page you will also find a Stamp to Stay Date and before that date you have to make a border run, which means you have to leave Thailand, get to a neighbouring country, enter that country and return straight back to Thailand. By doing this you will be granted the second 90 days.

    3. Max. 4 weeks, min. 3 weeks before the expiry of your second 90 days, you may extend your present visa at immigration inside Thailand on grounds having money in the bank (THB 800K in a Thai Bank for 3 months), an Income Letter by your Embassy showing THB 65K monthly when single or THB 40K monthly when married.

    thanks for the reply.

I was not eligable for 12 month visa... I was granted the 2x90 day non imm "o" after talking to what I would describe "an extremely leinient" consulate in aust, after having told them I simply wanted to visit friends rather than "tourism".. no other info was needed... I've since learned I've been extremely lucky to get such a visa. (I dont qualify for retirment or work visa)

Correct, there is no overriding stamp on the visa, but the notation of "1" and "2" written in black ink on the via page bothers me.

Unfortunately there is a nasty "extension of stay not permitted" printed on the visa so I will not be able to extnd.

Looks like a border run is my next course of action.

Malaysia looks ideal given no visa (and hence no application proccess and/or fee) is required to enter the country which I am told is the case with Laos. I dont know about cambodia, is a visa required to enter cambodia or Vietnam? or can I simply get a stamp on arrival without the need of any time consuming visa application process.

There are some great deals on flights to malaysia around the dates I would need to do the run.

    Thanks again

    Pete

  11. Hi Guys, looking for some clarity on this issue.

    I was issued with a non imm "o" double entry (2 x 90 days)

    in Australia.

On arrival in the kingdom going through imigration, the officer wrote "1" and "2" on the visa page and stamped the opposite page of the visa with a 90 day stamp and said "I give you 90 days" Apart from writing "1" and "2" on the visa page, there was no other stamp or writting defacing the visa page..

    I'm unsure if this means:

    1.

the visa is "used" and I must exit the country after 90 days

    2.

the visa is still valid and I can stay untill the full 180 days granted in the visa has elapsed (more a pipe dream

    than anything else)

    3.

The visa is still valid, I must exit the kingdom beforer the 90 days has elapsed and re-enter to recieve a second 90 days "stamp"

Would appreciate info on what options are available to me. Can I simply goto any immi office and get another stamp (assuming the visa is still valid)

    Many thanks for any help

    Pete

  13. Hi there

I'm an australian with Australian passport

I am a little confused about what I need to do to extend my stay in thailand or change visa type. I have several questions. I will be traveling to thailand on the 5th of july

    1.

If I wanted to stay longer than 30 days, do I need to aply for an extention at a consulate in australia before I travel to thailand or can I apply for an extention at an imigration office in thailand.

    2.

Also, how long am I permitted to stay in thailand on an extention of stay? I would like to stay for atlesast 3 months.

    3.

If I am to marry my thai partner in thailand while on tourist visa, or extention of stay of a tourist visa, what type of visa do I need to change to allow me to remain in thailand, and can I change to this type of visa at an imigration office in thail or do i need to apply at an embasy/consulate outside of thailand.

Thankyou so much for your help

    Regards

    Peter
