  1. Nah you can get a letter from your consulate in Chiang mai, in my case it was the Australian one. Very simple to get the letter, then it was just a case of showing the letter from consulate, your international license, my aussie license (not sure if this was necessary but i brought it along anyway), the green book that said i owned my bike and i had to do a pretty funny little test to get my thai car license, the one with the ropes and a few colour tests.

I've got the card from the aussie consulate somewhere, so PM me if you need the details of it.

  2. MBK in BKK, and Pantip in CM, their pretty far from each other. Bought a bunch of the pirated ones in BKK before, worked fine, so just after them again, thanks for the other though Gravelrash.

  3. Anyone know where i can get some Xbox games, i tried the obviouse places like Icon and Pantip plaza, and to my surprise none had any Xbox games. There are tons of places in MBK (bkk) that sell them, but thats a bit far to go.

I'll try Kad Suan Gaow tomorow, but not very hopeful.

    Cheers.

  4. I did search before posting this, and the only thread i've found for CM that was half useful is the Maxnet sucks thread, but that just gives mixed results about Maxnet.

Basically i'm looking for anyone in CM, preferably who live around CMU, who have their own internet connection (either cable or DSL) who have a stable connection, stable being the key word. Can you please post who the provider is, location, if it's cable or DSL, price and speed. I'm in IT so feel free to post as much technical info as u like.

After struggling with the building internet, as well as a few wireless hotspots around here, i've given up with the shared internet and decided to get my own. I've just been given permission from my buildings owner that i'm allowed to get my own. First bridge crossed.

I don't have a phone line at the moment, so if anyone has any input on which provider is best would be appreciated too (if i decide to go down the DSL path).

My budget as approx 2,000B per month for internet.

    Thanks in advance.

  5. Hey, i'm 24 and livin in Chiang mai, i'm back in Australia for a couple of weeks at the moment, but then i'm back in cm for good.

I also like Warm up and some of the other places.

Let me know if u wana join us on our nights out.

  6. I did a short 3 week beginners Thai course at CMU, but they told me that I am eligible to get a Non-immigrant (Education) visa for the course (however the visa was either a 3 or 6 month visa, can't remember which). Anyway, i went to see Immigration next to the airport (opposite the petrol station), they gave me some form, and told me to go back to the university to get some special letter and special permission from the university which i then need to submit to immigration again.

However, after about 10 days the university came back to me, to inform me that because i was on a tourist visa, i would need to leave the country and apply for the non-im (ed) visa at a thai embassy outsite the country. They could have the letter ready and give it to the embasy, but i would still need to leave the country.

I decided it was too much trouble as i already have an APEC business travel card, so a quick visa run to mae sai gave me an extra 90 days, and solved my problem.

    Hope this helps.

  7. Just wondering if anyone knows where i can buy a garlic crusher from?

I want to cook some Italian food, but every Thai person i ask has no idea what a garlic crusher is. I looked at Tesco and Tops, any other place i can try?

    Cheers.

  8. I love fishing, and would be very keen on going, unfortunately i don't have a car either (only scooter) but i'd be willing to chip in for petrol/taxi/beer or whatever other expenses.

Can you please let me know if this gets organised? (Sorry, i would like to help organise this but i've been here 5 days and don't think i would be of much help).

    Cheers.
