  1. Yup they are one of the main Taiwanese domestic airlines and also run some international routes. Can't miss their bright orange planes. At one stage they were owned by Eva Air not sure if they still are. Flew them a bit domestically in Taiwan, would rate them as comparable to Thai Air Asia. Flew them a few times internationally Taipei to Phnom Penh (it was an Eva flight/ticket utilising UniAir planes). Crap service and old planes but you get what you pay for.

  2. Girlx has the opportunity arisen lately for you to talk to the woman you initially posted about? Hope the information here was useful. As a relative newbie to Thailand I found it very enlightening and glad women are banding together to discuss some of the tough stuff.

  3. The rack rate was something like 2,800 per month plus 15,000 joining fee which made it an outrageous rip-off at almost 50,000/year although they easily came down to 35,000/year. That seems to be their standard pitch.

I paid cash upfront for 12 months at 26,000 (10,000 one-off joining fee + 1333 per month). Not bargain basement but less than my gym back home and definately cheaper than California was in Taiwan.

  4. Digging around on the forums for a bit of feedback on this club. Anyone been a member at Q House long term and what have your experiences been? I've just joined and the immediate thing that hits me is the lack of farang clients compared to the other gyms I looked at, which is interesting as there are a lot working in the area. Second is that the place is rarely full and never a shortage of machines after work which is a pleasant surprise. I was previously a California member in Taiwan where it was a constant fight for machines. Third is that the staff are friendly enough but I haven't come across a trainer or instructor that speaks good english. When I joined I thought I'd try some personal training sessions cos I'm not very gym savvy (read chubby and middle-aged) but I'm not keen on miming my way through. Anyone else got experiences or recommendations for the place?

  5. Um I just made grilled cheese on toast for daughter's brekkie, does that count? Otherwise we don't cook, our housekeeper makes yummy SE Asian food every night. She's just done an Indian cooking course so now we have variety. I have a sandwich at work most days for lunch.

  6. As a former Cambodia resident and wannabe Khmer speaker I'd say four or five of the words on that list are part of standard Khmer language, although the transliteration of a couple threw me. As well as the actual difference in vocabulary Siem Reap and northern Cambodians have quite a pronounced lyrical rhythm to the way they speak that generally isn't present in the South and SE of the country.

  7. Nat did you do this before you moved? I see Panipa near my office does gel nails. Anyone got any other places in Silom/Sathorn area that is good? I've never had falsies but mine are in such bad shape I'm ashamed to let clients see them, especially Thai women who generally seem to have such nice hands. Thinking maybe my real ones would grow out under false ones, is that how it works?

  8. Hehe thanks...Damien I probably needed to hear that it ain't all syrupy sweet all the time. I'm not too concerned about the motives, the texting frequency just threw me. Seems like a lot of effort for something that might not actually happen.

When I was a kid I had penpals all over the world and loved getting letters. I get the same thrill from that little envelope on the screen, isn't that funny?

[LaReina: I need to change my screen name, I'm not going home anytime soon. ]

  9. Okay gals, I have been here a few months and casually dating a Thai guy. We both work, our hours rarely coincide and we manage to meet up once or twice a week. The baffling thing for me is the amount of SMS messages I get between times, sometimes 2 or 3 a day. Is this a common Thai thing? It never happened to me in the other asian countries I've lived in. I quite like it actually.

  10. I like that advice about getting a best girl friend first too. Having been here for months now and settled into work plus started dating someone recently. It would be so good to have a female friend of a similar mindset to bounce stuff off. Most of my friends have never travelled outside Oz so their understanding about functioning in another culture are zilch.

  11. Oh and pretty please could you include some industrial strength over the shoulder boulder holder sports bras? The triple hook "they ain't jumping around" sort... I do believe there is not one solidly built sports bra in a western size in this town.

  12. He's a good masseuse, I like mine deep tissue brutal and he happily obliges. To be fair he works hard for his 85 baht cut of the 250 baht fee. He now realises I'm going to be a long term customer and is behaving appropriately.

  13. Oops, sorry for the confusion, yes I'm female. Not used to flashing my chesty bits around though and it did freak me out a bit. Maybe I should charge HIM if he wants to look and touch :o I think I'm getting my sense of humour back about the whole thing now.

  14. Etiquette question here about paying for massages. I just assumed male masseuses here were gay based on the ones I knew back home. But my usual massage guy is getting pretty hands on in the chest area. Am I supposed to tip? I'm guessing yes but I didn't really ask for the added extra.

  15. Our child is at the British School of Bangkok http://www.bsbangkok.ac/ and we are really happy with them. Its a lovely small school and a real family atmosphere. The education level is definately higher than back home and our daughter has required extra assistance to catch up. The extra help was provided in class time by the school at no extra cost to us. As a bonus their buses come a full hour later than Patana to our apartment building, so instead of waving our littlie off before 7am she doesn't go until 8.
