Feel free to show us all where you get a LOT OF VALUE for 10K/ month, unless of course you consider a Thai apartment a lot of value.

And no, don't point to Poorsuckers post, as he has made clear already that what he got is something exceptional.

There are many around and you can just go to Facebook and ask the several agents about long term rent for 10k-12k, pretty new 1 br condos with pool and a gym.
Since this thread is about buying and not renting I think we should leave it at that.

But since you asked, I lived in Paradise Park, Jomtien , 34 sqm is not a big condo but it was modern and new, as the pictures show. I loved it, especially the pool was amazing.

You can rent a +50sqm with corner balcony here for 120.000 per year, don't have corner balcony but can easily sit eight person in mine, government rate electric, gym, pool, 24h security, underground garage. Mine is 48sqm, 100.000 furnished

Exactly, and still people want to buy. For 10k/month you get a lot of value if you spend some time to pick the right location and building.  And then when you do not like the location anymore, due to noise or other things, you just move, simple as that.

I have issues on the other side, where Samsung won't update my Thai bought phone because it's not a model that was made for the country where I reside. Beyond A05s, there's a part number that's different for each market.

I have no advice regarding the OPs current dilemma, just some info for anyone thinking about importing a phone.  It may not work out as easy as it looks.

No problem with updates here , and I spend most of my time in Europe, bought my Samsung TH model in Bangkok.  So don't understand the problem you have.
I do have a Samsung account registered in Thailand and make sure to log in from that user name.

  4. I think Colombia could be a nice alternative.  I have not reached retirement age yet but I think I will visit S-America and see what they have to offer. Unfortunately I do not speak Spanish but it would be easier to learn than Thai.

But it depends on the costs, I do not expect a big pension.

  5. This is very sad news indeed.  I studied in London in the early 80's and his voice was always on Radio 1 in the afternoon.
As I was studying business English at the time (I'm Norwegian), I used the radio a lot and his voice was very relaxing.  I also remember him from Radio Luxemburg, now that must have been a few years before he joined BBC, I think in the late 70's.

Then I rediscovered him many years later through the BBC iPlayer app and his show Steve Wright in the Afternoon on Radio 2.

He was the real deal and will be sorely missed by many.  RIP.
