  1. I already sent you an sms with my contact info. We talk later then. Thanks.

One thing that you might like to consider, I do know someone that has a BOI company already set up and operating for almost 2 years, he'll move the operation to another country very soon, you could take over the company and change the current activity to the software line of business that you are planing to do, that would be a lot easier and faster than to set up from scratch, the company registration gets changed to your name and you take it from there, we are talking taking over just the actual corporation and the legal things that are already established, not a location, employees or anything else, it's quite easy, if you are interested I can connect you, the cost would be very reasonable, let me know. Cheers.

I would be interested in this service if you could contact me directly..

  3. It's not an educational thing, it's a cultural thing, these and other types of behaviors have become "standard practice" by the majority of Thai people. Once you spend enough time here or engage in the type of activity where you deal with Thai people in an intensive way, like having Thai employees, etc, you see all of that and you'll get a clear feel for the typical traits of most Thai people and you see them the way they really are, not the way they present themselves.

You're talking about the English, right..?

I'm most certainly talking about human beings in general ;-)

From a more serious point of view; I think small scale issues like this is a matter of lack of education. I have pointed this out in another thread: I'm not too confident there was an initial intention to scam you - the money was sitting there and all of a sudden they'd spent some of it. Maybe there's even a true intention to pay you back (it'll be difficult to do it, though).

I am not too sure the educational bit is the root cause when the same type of behavior operates on a bigger scale; I have spent time with people who are top executives in banks, and they behave in exactly the same way under certain conditions. The only difference appears to be the amounts. For the average Thai farmer it's the kids' future education spent at the local bars, in the case of the bank executive it's a couple of hundred million Baht of the banks money. The key appears to be the opportunity, so the lesson to learn is to NEVER present an opportunity. This becomes extremely important when there's a personal relationship at stake - make sure you never present an opportunity by lending money or buying something in someone else's name.

I for one try to always think the best of every Thai - contrary to many others who thinks the worst - but I also make sure I never present an opportunity; this also assures that I can maintain my relationships, both private and business wise. In a weird way, I get the impression many Thais realise I am actually trying to protect our relationship, and for this I gain in respect.

But I dont envy you the situation, after all, this is family.

  4. Hi Wolf5370, I'd love to get in touch with those Spanish guys if they are interested, I'm Spanish also and I haven't met any Spanish people in Chiang Mai yet so it would be great to meet others. Appreciated.

    Carlos

You old try the Ecole D'Francais Extreame Orient (I think its called) in Charoen Prathet (between Sacred Heart/Regina schools and the back of Ansawan Market/Guitarman) - its a French school, so teachers probably moonlight for languages. I know ESL (SEETEFL) language school had a French/Italian teacher back about 6 months ago, not sure if she's still there - I think they are sponsors - on Gaew Narawat Road opposite Priness Royal College.

Just had a thought. I know an older Spanish guy here (60's) - lives with his Spanish son a few doors down.He speaks only Spanish (his son speaks English too). He wants to learn English, so you could possibly teach each other and save some bucks. I can probably put you in touch if you are interested - he's a nice guy - lives a few doors down from me.

  5. I would suggest that you check very carefully the feasibility of manufacturing in Thailand; I've found the productivity of Thai workers to be very low and their work ethic it's just plain abysmal, they are not serious about work. You might need 3 or 4 to get the work done by 1 US worker, it really depends on what type of work you need done. I would think twice, better yet, five times before moving the business here. Good luck.

  6. I have a BOI approved company in Chiang Mai. There are no fees to apply. Minimum investment it's 1,000.000 baht. The application its very easy, no need for a consultant unless you have a very complicated situation, your secretary can probably handle it. The BOI office in Chiang Mai can also help you and advise you about the whole process, they are very helpful. I didn't see any painful aspect to the application process other than it will take longer than what they say (particularly if handled by the Chiang Mai BOI office since as you probably know by now, everything takes longer in Chiang Mai or in the north for that matter). The whole process took me about 2 months.

  7. I parked my car there a few weeks ago for 3 days and 1 hour and they charged me 400 baht (I was told it was 100 baht per day, so I guess that extra hour was already counted as an extra day. The airport in BKK charges 250 baht a day by the way.

  8. I`ve heard about these BOI business dealings for Farang schemes. One of our Mr Thaksin brain childs I believe.

This scheme is really geared for Foreign and Thai trade big businesses and not for the average run of mill Farang like most of us.

Many Farangs that obtain land by these means are very dubious and again as I said previous, for most of us owning land and property in Thailand, is still illegal even if using a Thai to front the ownership.

It has been in place long before Thaksin ever came to power. I'd do some serious reading before opening your mouth. That sums it up when you say that you are an "average run of the mill" farang, I need say no more. Try and run a "dubious" company through the BOI and see how far you get. Back to driving busses perhaps?

Adding to what Maejo Man said, BOI land ownership is for REAL companies doing REAL business, can't fool around with the BOI to use it as a front company just to get land or a work permit. This is not to be confused with setting up a regular Thai corporation where farang can own up to 49% of it and can buy land trough it. That type of companies have been done a lot here and often as a front, but............. watch out! easy comes, easy goes if not legit. Regulations have been changing and if they decide to enforce them............

  9. If one is to follow the postings of the two posters in question on this thread you would have to put their opinions in the <deleted> category. :)

What I stated was fact on BOI land ownership, maybe you are just jealous that a farang can actually buy and own land leagally, but virtue of the Thai system for business.

A fact it is as Maejo Man stated, I received this benefit once, it only took 3 weeks for approval. In the end I didn't use it when I discovered a pig farm near the land, so now I go at it for a second time at another location.

  10. Carlos.....it sounds from your directions that we may be neighbors. Is your place on the road to G&M sausages?? Road to Maejong?? Turn off main road near Ban Mae kaa?? Been here for 8 yrs. Have had only a couple of rains that flodded the road in that time, but they drained quickly. there are areas near the major klongs that can flood easily.

If so.....like all places here in 'the big valley' it is hit or miss.....with all the little micro climates it can be raining cats and soidogs 500 mtrs from you while you are dry and of course, it depends on local drainage. If building....bring in land fill as high as you can or dig your own with a lake and diggings to be used as land fill.

Right now, I would appreciate some flooding, as we haven't had any decent rains for more than 6 months.

Send me your phone number by PM and we can determine weather we are neighbors or not. Anyway, welcome to our neighborhood....not too many falangs near by.

Thank you jaideeguy, Hope it's the same area, Have no clue about the street names, so I'm not sure, but can go from there to the german restaurant. I sent you a message with my number and 2 pics that show the soi area.

We talk later then. Take care.

  11. Doi saket may not suffer from flooding, but it does experience horrendously destructive hail storms, sits right on the most unstable fault line in SE asia, is the only known habitat of a particularly lethal breed of millipede, and is used as a landing site for a highly agressive tribe of space alien. But its dry.

Sorry, dont take this to seriously. Ha ha ha. :D

Seems so funny as i write it.

Maybe I need to get more sleep. Ha ha ha ha ha........ :D

Man........ you got me going for a moment. :)

  12. I have (well at least my daughter's mother has) some land in Amphoe Doi Saket, Tambon Sanpuloy. It's not that far away from where you are looking but in the 20 years that I have been associated with this area I've never seen any flooding.

Thank you Blinky Bill, that's really good to know. Take care.

  13. I live approximately 2 kilo from Doi Saket. I have been all over this area and not seen or heard of any flood areas. As I say this just use some common sense when looking at property ravens, drainage ditch, irrigation canals.

    Thank you gotlost, appreciated.

  14. I plan to buy some land in the Doi Saket area and I appreciate any feedback that I can get.

I know Doi Saket is quite large and probably gets flooding in some locations. The land in question is off the Bo Sang-Doi Saket road (1007 road) just about half way between Doi Saket and Bo Sang (about 7.5 Km from Bo Sang), at a soi 1,3 km from the right side of the Bo Sang-Doi Saket road if coming from the direction of Bo Sang (same soi that goes to the local government house (Obato)).

I also wonder if any possible flooding would be mainly from rain water? I didn't see rivers there or any other source of water that can create flooding. Thanks in advance. :)

    Cheers

  15. My use for it it's very different (marble bases for resin statues) and I'm looking for a particular color (black with white veins). Thanks.

Do they have marble also? Thanks
No only granite, Can I ask why marble, As anything you can do with marble you can do with granite You cant use marble for floor's Or work top's, as it's to soft Look's great for a few year's then you'll have to repolish. As for tile's bathroom's ect, If your going to do the floor's as well as the wall's, no way your going to get a match.
