  1. Hi,

I am a 41 year old Belgian living in Thailand since august last year on a multiple entry non-immgrant "O" visa.

For my work I leave the country every 6 weeks for a period of 6 weeks during this 6 weeks I work on a ship and can't go to a Thai embassy to apply for a new visa.

In august my visa will expire so I went to the Pattaya immigration office to ask for some info regarding my extension with re-entry permit.

But to my amazement the immigration officers told me I could not extend my visa because I leave the country regularly so I am not regarded as living in Thailand and must get my visa from an embassy abroad.

I don't understand if you can't leave the country to be able to get an extension to your visa what is the use of the re-entry permit which you have to pay 3900 baht for?

Is anyone here in a compairable situation and how are you solving this?

  2. "She would like to come to Thaiand as fast as possible but she only has a Belgium Passport."

not 100% sure but cant see a problem here, she belgium passport comes here, then goes and apply's for a thaipassport and they should then let her know what action to take next, it may be as you say she might have to nip to border in order to make good her belgium passport, but not worry i think she should be ok!

If she get her passport in Bangkok, and leave Thailand with her Belgium Passport, next time she try to enter Thailand, she will be questioned by immigration, as her Thai Passport should have a departure/arrival form.

Probably easier to explain if she get a new Thai Passport in Belgium.

Sorry I saw I forgot to mention that she wouldn't leave on her Belgium passport she would want to come here and live with me.

So next time she would go out of the country I would apply for a Thai passport in Bangkok and leave with that passport.

  3. Get a Thai passport at the consulate in Brussels?

Yes I know that is what I told her too but that takes a while and she would like to come earlier.

And when I thought about it I thought maybe it wouldn't be a problem I am only not sure what would happen when she would apply for a Thai passport here and leave the country later on her Thai passport.

Maybe her name would be flagged with immigration because she came in with her Belgium passport and dit not leave the country upon that entry.

  4. Hi all,

My daughter is 17 and living in Belgium for the moment and she has some personal probems.

She would like to come to Thaiand as fast as possible but she only has a Belgium Passport.

She has a Thai ID card but no passport.

If she would come to Thailand would she be able to come to Thailand with a visa excemption and just stay in Thailand after that on her Thai ID card.

Or would she need to apply for a Thai passport and leave the country again and then enter on her Thai passport again to make it legal.

  5. Am I reading this correctly? I think it basically says that we don't understand each other and haven't done so for a long time. (Context is a letter from my Thai bf). More help required later I suspect if you guys don't mind! Thanks

    เราไม่เข้าใจกันและกันมานานแล้ว

Also struggled with หรรือ but decided that was Northern (Chiang Mai) 'Hello'??

Correct that is what it means.

rao mâi kâo jai gan láe gan maa naan láew

For หรรือ I can't find any translation you sure this is the complete word what are the surrounding words?

  6. Who can tell me how they calculate the import duty on your personal stuff? I have no work permit, I'll be shipping about 10 - 12 cubic meters.

Import duty is based on your list with contents and it looks quite random how they compute the taxes I couldn't realy find a logic in it and I only knew what I had to pay the day before they delivered my stuff.

Questions about a complete quote where never answered by the shipping agent original quote was much lower there were a few lines in the quote without price because they could not be filled in at the time.

But I didn't have any choice I only got the complete price when everything was in the godown in Bankok if I wanted my stuff I had to pay.

In fact we shouldn't have paid any taxes because it was just some old house hold stuff which we brought in my wifes name and she had lived abroad for 9 years but they didn't accept that because the saw in her passport that she had been to Thailand in the past 6 months

  7. Ok "calm down, calm down" [curly hair & scouse accent].

I'm due to ship a load of personal posessions from Europe into Bangkok this year and the shipping company have advised that I'll need to supply my passport for them to submit to customs. So the chioce is simple - either trust your shipping agent or go to the port yourself and find the customs office who is holding the paperwork and hand over your passport in person and get a receipt. Then, when they've processed your shipment in a few days, go back to the customs office at the port and collect your passport.

Who can tell me how they calculate the import duty on your personal stuff? I have no work permit, I'll be shipping about 10 - 12 cubic meters.

Also, I've been quoted one price to get it to the docks in Bangkok and for an extra price of 800 euros ($1,200) they will do the paperwork in Thailand, collect from the port and ship it all the way to Hua Hin. Would it be easy and cheaper to arrange with a local private Thai company to do the collection from the port in Bangkok? Would there be any complications with the paperwork by not having the same shipping company do a door-to-door?

You guys out there seem to have the experience, I'd be very grateful if you could share a little.

    Cheers.

Hi I used a local shipping agent and paid also around 800 Euro's to clear the papers, pay the taxes and bring the stuff to me in Satahip though my stuff was only 2,5 m3 so it doesn't sound too expensive to me.

  8. Hello everyone,

A friend of mine lives in Huahin on a retirement visa and up until now he went to the Bankok immigration office to get his extension.

I told him yesterday we also have an immigrationoffice here in Jomtien so maybe he could come here and visit me and do his extension here. But we are not sure if this is possible for somebody who lives in Huahin.

Does anyone here know if you can do your extension at any immigration office or do you have to go to the one closest to your house?

    Thanks

    Regards

  9. Hi There,

Next month I arrive for a 6 months stay in Jomtien during that time I need to visit friends in Phuket and later to Phitsanulok. Now being retired my budget won't stretch to flying (typically 3800 baht one way) so I must look to land travel. Since I have not been in this area of Thailand for 12 years now, I've no current knowledge of buses. 12 years ago the cheapest bus was a great adventure but now older, walking on crutches, I would have to plan a journey with great care. Does Pattaya have a aircon or VIP bus services........an indication of prices also much appreciated.

You have the new busses going to the airport from Jomtien at the moment they cost you 106 baht.

From the airport there is a free shuttle bus that takes you to the busstation of the airport 5 minutes drive.

And there you have airconbusses to the southern bus terminal Saitai.

Here you have the VIP buses leaving at 8 o'clock in the evening arriving in Phuket 10 o'clock the next morning.

Prizes I don't have a clue must have been 10 years since I took this bus but I think it was 280 baht then so probably will be somewhere between 400 and 500 baht now.

But as was said before with all the budget airlines at the moment it will be much easier and not much more expensive to fly.

I'll check it out for you and post it later

    Regards

Just checked the price for a standard price with 1,2 Go return ticket is 3500 baht and if you are lucky and can book in advance to get a promotional fee you can fly for 299 + 500 baht airport tax which means 1598 baht for a return ticket.

  11. Any 'two-bench' or A/C buses going at Suk. from Baan Amphoe area to Central Pat?

Yes but these ones are white not blue and you will have to change at Pattaya South, central or North and transfer to a blue one to get to the beach.

Both cost you 10 baht per person.

Or I don't know where in Baan Amper you are but there is also a regular shuttle service with airconditioned minibus for 30 baht from the Baan Nam Mao resort in Najomtien this bus goes straight to walking street I think.

  12. My boyfriend and I are considering a trip to Thailand on holiday next year. We have many friends who have been and say it is wonderful. I would very much like to go, but I'm concerned for my boyfriend. He has a severe and unusual form of allergy to fish, shellfish in particular. Conventional allergy medication doesn't help him and should he accidentally ingest fish or shellfish, he will need specialist hospital care or he could die. He doesn't personally see this as a problem, but knowing how much fish sauce and shrimp paste goes into Thai food, I am very worried, to the point where I'm considering suggesting we go somewhere else instead. So I was hoping that someone here might be able to either allay my fears and tell me how to cope with such an allergy in Thailand - or confirm that it would be impossible and we'd be better of going to a different country. Do Thai people understand if you tell them you can't eat fish? I'm wondering as my vegetarian friends say they were frequently given fish despite explaining (using a Thai phrase book) that they were vegetarian - not a great disaster for them, but could mean death for my boyfriend! What is Thai healthcare like? If the worst should happen, would they be competent to care for him? Any advice would be most appreciated!

Are you sure fish sauce poses a problem ?

My wife also has an allergy for prawns but she uses fish sauce every day without a problem.

Medical fascillities are very good in Thailand especially in tourist areas.

  13. Hi,

I am a Belgian working abroad in Qatar on a contract of 6 weeks on 6 weeks off.

I have bought a house in Thailand and have been married for 8 years with a Thai wife and have a daughter of 4 who also has a Thai passport.

We would like to move permanantly to our house in Thailand but with the new immigration laws I don't know if it is possible to use a non-immigrant visa.

I will be flying to Qatar every 6 weeks and if we would move to Europe instead of Qatar the contract will become 4 weeks on-off so that would mean I would fly in and out of Thailand every 4 weeks.

Does anybody know if this is possible with a 'O' visa.

    Regards

    Danny
