  1. I, too am in Phitsanulok and yes, farangs are few and far between.

When I first came to Phitsanulok I had various family and friends tell me about other farang in the area( maybe 2 0r 3 as you said). Trying to be accommodating they located one of these guys for me thinking it would make my stay more comfortable. The guy they brought to my house was over 60 years old, wearing a ripped beer chang shirt, stank like high heavens and to top it off was Austrian and couldn't speak a word of English let alone thai.

I politely excused myself and waited for he and his 26 yr old wife (who actually looked presentable. Still can't explain this) to leave. Which they did quickly. I bumped into the same guy again at a local wedding and he made the effort to don some shorts and a polo shirt (faded but clean). This story (and any alike) almost deserve a thread of their own although I'm sure someone beat me to it.

So after that I sort of got into the habit of not speaking to any farang unless they introduce themselves to me and seem likable.

My point is you are doing nothing wrong and based on my encounter, there's no guarantee you'd understand him anyway!!!

BTW- As long as you aren't the above guy we can be friends!!!!!

  2. I'm disappointed,

You are all lucky to have hair........I would love to have the opportunity to complain about a poor haircut.

Alas, i cannot. Consider yourselves lucky that God blessed you with a full head of hair.

Hopefully I'm not the only baldy out there.

BTW- anyone know of a good wig store??? 555

    :o:D:D

  3. I take my own whiskey (JW blue label) and the FA's give me some mixers and a bucket of ice.......now that's cool.

Not a brilliant idea mate, You can get jailed / fined for that and banned from travel on the airline and alliance partners. not to mention the crew allowing it will get fired. But upto u - you never know who your sitting next to on the plane and a crew/pax might just take offense........

But good luck with it :o

I always know who I'm sitting next to as does the FA's.......never been a problem for me.

My point is if u are known to the crew or are a frequent flyer, you get great service.

I think you are the only person that seems to take offence to this. :D

so good luck with it :D

  4. I fly thai every 2 months SYD-BKK-SYD. For the past 2 years I have been told that next month they will have new planes for this route..........never happens. IFE is shit, food is average (same menus for 2 + years.) and the FA's are far from attractive!! :o

There is a big BUT here...................I can change flights at no costs, book a flight and fly same day and on the plane if there are free seats (always) I get 2 or 3 seats for myself. I take my own whiskey (JW blue label) and the FA's give me some mixers and a bucket of ice.......now that's cool. I have noticed that once the FA's know you you can pretty much do what you like, eat extra food etc.

I am always a little tipsy when leaving the plane ...customs love it!!!

I always threaten to change but I guess I am happy supporting the national airline, just wish they'd replace the planes soon.

  5. My son's name is 'Dean' english name but easy for thais, he is 'nong dean' no probs with pronunciation. Thai names are fine for girls but I found the boys names to be too hard for farang, so english name for a boy but thai name for a girl is ok. In thailand any name is ok as everyone uses a nickname, but for western countries you will have problems if the name is hard to pronounce as schools etc use the full name for identification. For a boy I suggest an english name but a thai nickname...........

But at the end of the day naming your child is your choice and your choice only.

  6. The women complained that while she was learning Thai, she was being constantly fed bull$hit through repetition that she likened to brainwashing.

The same could be said for western compulsory education. Only at an elective level does a student think for themselves.

BTW - I didn't take the latter option. hence my love for alcohol.........555

  7. Keemao, I can assume you are living in Thailand, as have I for several years, but are you living in a cave?? Of course it is ffffing true. Just tonight on the May Lee show on UBC there was some reports about this, but of course I didn't need this to clue me in. However they gave out this website which I have not gone to yet but here you go afesip.org. There are books about the sex trade in South East Asia. There are many shows about it. If you have never run across any of them well I can only think you must be walking around 100% blind and not wanting to see. I have never paid for sex in my life, never tried to go to any brothels in my life, but thanks to sleazy tuk-tuk drivers, when I asked to go to blind massage, was told they could take me somewhere better. My first night in Chiang Mai you know what I saw?? I was taken to a total brothel, with ladies photos on the wall, with numbers on their neck. (Why? Because the driver could make more commission than at a straight massage even though I was only paying and getting a straight massage.)

I was given some of the 50 year old women to give me my massage. When I came out, and was tying up my shoes in the lobby I saw two police men come in, point at the photos on the wall with their sticks, and go back without paying. I made a joke about why they didn't have to pay first like I had to and everyone in the waiting area laughed. This isn't the only time this has happened to me, although every time I only got a massage.

:DYou have one very interesting life!!! :D

P.S- Whats wrong with my cave??? From reading some of your stories, my cave sounds like an ideal place to be......... :o

  8. Keemao, well you obviously took something I said to heart. My mission did not FAIL as you say. It only FAILED in that it offend you. And I was only trying to be kind to those people who frequent brothels, don't try to pick young girls, and so think they are doing nothing wrong. If you were ever to do some research about how girls end up in brothels, about what kind of life they lead, about what kind of money they make, you would know what I was taking about.

It is totally possible that girls who decide to be bargirls, decide on their own to do this job, can decide who will be their customers, decide how many customers they will have per night, decide to some extent how much they are willing to work for, decide if they are willing to do straight sex or not, or what type of sex they will be willing to do.

The girls who work in brothels are usually sold by their parents at very young ages, are beaten into submission, don't have any decisions in the above matters, don't get hardly any money from what their customer's pay, are never free to leave the live of prostitution, etc. This is quite a different matter. There are books about this. There are UN reports about this. There are movies and documentaries about this, what do you think I am being a jerk about?

UN reports, movies and documentaries....well , It must be true!!!!!! :D:D

If you have seen these activities first hand or know someone in this situation, I apologise, however I doubt it.

Please continue, I enjoy reading your posts. :o

  9. If you want a real picture of the thai property market.........try selling a home or land. You'll find out quickly how much it's REALLY worth!!!

Then again farang selling to farang..........different ball game.......

As for how much you should spend on a home.?? Whatever you like! At the end of the day a man's home is his castle and you need to be happy there.

Thanks for listening....now give me a drink!!

  10. back to the OP's original question......................

write a cheque for 1,000,000 baht. Don't bank it or make it bounce if they do!!

normally sinsod or BP is a face issue, the parents will be looked at in high regard and you will also gain respect as the community expects a farang to be able to pay. Speak to the family about this, you will find they will agree to it.......if not, don't marry and save your dosh for the upcoming medical bills........you'll need it.

    Best of luck.

  11. a new low is reached in pattaya life

    Is that possible???

a group of large men....and a police officer for 28yrs, and a little girl got the better of them. rather comical really.

I guess that's why I never go to Pattaya :o

  12. Thailand isn't in the business (anymore) of letting people just come and set up shop...especially the ones who aren't wanting to formalise their stay. But, if you are likely to be economically productive, or show that you have the basic capcity to support your family, then I don't think the rules are too unfair at all.

    hear hear........

I am now a Thai national so obviously no problem, but I've always agreed that whatever a country's policies are, they should be followed. If you do not like it, then shop elsewhere.....:D

Has anyone ever looked at their own country's immigration criteria?? I deal with Australian authorities on behalf of Thai nationals regularly and can tell you the rules in oz are stricter than Thailand..........I have been told on many occasions that the British are harsher.

Don't forget the majority of Thai leaders have studied abroad and dealt with the immigration departments in the western world.

Anyways, just mumbling now................If you really are a genuine contribution to Thailand, speak the lingo and know the customs, plus have a respectable character reference you will be home free. Just don't expect it for free... :o

In Thailand.........money talks. Always has, always will be this way.

  13. Welcome KeeMao .....

with your name I would have thought you'd know Pattaya and Nana well :o

but hey! I have been to Nana and Pattaya ... but still think the same way you do :D

    Hi JD,

    Thanks for the welcome.

The name choice was my 4th try as most names are taken!!!

However, I am partial to a little partying and the odd drink :D
