You can use your Nationwide card in europe free of charge but outside Europe there is a charge.Used to be free worldwide, sadly no longer.Always let them know when you intend using the card overseas or it will be blocked at some point.

First went to Thailand in 1982.I'd never been anywhere so hot.I was working on a site at Bang Pakong(just outside Chonburi)for EGAT. Company put us up in Pattaya,a place i'd never heard of before and was staying in a great little hotel on 2nd road called Country Lodge(sadly no longer there)I was 21 and thought i'd died and gone to heaven! Pattaya had plenty of bars back then and what is now known as Walking St used to just be called South Pattaya. I used to spend my days off at weekends on Jomtien Beach, frequented then mostly by Thai visitors and back then there was only one hotel/restaurant on the whole of the beach, used to be called Villa Navin and all you could see as you looked along the beach were the hills/mountains in the distance, superb it was.Lived there for a year.Best year ever! Fell in love with the place from day one,met my beautiful wife there and next year we celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary.Went back to Pattaya a few years ago just to see how things had changed.Couldn't believe it! It is called Pattaya City now i believe and i can see why,the place is unrecognisable from the place i used to live. It's definitely changed for the worse in my opinion. It didn't even feel like Thailand to me and Jomtien Beach, well, the mountain views have gone forever,i definitely saw the best of Pattaya.Won't be going back again.Give me Cha-am any day, where we plan to retire, reminds me of Pattaya back in 1982! Cheers.

I have a place in Cha am but have only ever been in town for the music festival on the beach in October which is sponsored by Singha,so plenty of beer flowing but i've never seen any trouble there so it must be gang related. Never seen or heard of anything like this in Cha am before, that's why we decided to buy there in the first place. Just sounds like an event to avoid in future.

If you want to fly direct to BKK from the UK as far as i'm aware there are only 4 choices,BA/Qantas,Eva & Thai.Well i've flown with all of them over the years and despite, as some people have stated,Thai's ageing fleet of aircraft, they are still in my opinion by far the best of the direct carriers. It's all very well having seat back TV's but if half of the functions on these systems don't work, what good are they to you!
I must add however,i always travel in economy so i cannot comment on Business /First class facilities. In flight meals and service are 2nd to none.I only travel to Thailand annually with my family but we have never once experienced delays, perhaps i've just been fortunate.
Booked with Thai again for September and really looking forward to the trip!

Espen, your wife isn't the only Thai who would advise you not to stop at the scene of an accident,i've seen this happen with my Thai in laws. One time an accident happened right in front of us.A pick up had been racing a truck and the pick finished up on it's side in the road. The driver was trapped in the cab of the vehicle and his wife was wandering in the road,in shock ,after climbing out of the vehicle. My Thai wife and i had to force the family to stop the vehicle in which we were travelling,so that we could help.My Thai in laws just stood and watched us help the casualties.I flagged down a truck full of Thai workers who helped me get the pick up back onto its wheels and get the driver out.The driver had a badly broken arm. My wife and i gave first aid to the husband and wife whilst the workers who helped me right the truck appeared to be rifling through the cab of the vehicle before carrying on with their journey.
A short while after, an ambulance arrived with a TV crew.At this point the in laws took an interest in the proceedings thinking that they might be featured in the news that evening.Unbelievable!!
No Police attended, just this ambulance crew/TV crew,so no statements taken from witnesses and we just left the scene.
Sadly, life seems cheap in Thailand but as others on here have already posted, i could not pass by someone needing help.
