  1. I see that only USB 2.0 connection is listed. Do you know if it also has an eSATA connection or is available with ESATA connection?

Well I didn't know that before but I am pretty handy with Google, so there... :o

According to the WD website, the MyBook Premium ES Edition has eSata. It's the only MyBook with eSata. Costs $200 for 500GB in the U.S....

I had an emergency and purchased a brand new Western Digital MyBook ES 500GB (ESATA + USB) from Hardware House Intl' in Pantip Plaza for THB 6,700 about 2 weeks ago.

  2. Has anyone found western style Chinese food around BKK?

I'm looking for General Tso's chicken, combination (or any) Lo Mein, and Chinese style combination fried rice (I just don't like the taste of thai fried rice....conditioning I guess)

I'm headed back to the states to deploy to Iraq again....I guess I can get my fix there, but that's still a few weeks away.

  3. To turn it off....

    For most Nokia phones:

Go to the menu, Find "AIS Service" (in the "My Own" folder on N80, "Apps" folder on N95)

Click on it (You will see "mLIVE!" and click on it)

You will see "Activation" Now click on that and make sure it's turned OFF.

Got rid of 99% of the spam, though every once in a while I'll get a message from BIGFUN.

  4. After working at Apple for a number of years, I refuse to buy anything except the iPod..... Something about having my hands tied behind my back for as long as I own the product bothers me......

The iPhone has a LOT of maturing to do....from what some of my engineering buddies at Apple have told me, I'd wait on it for the next generation.

I love the N95, but I just feel like I could do so much more (read: hack) with a windows powered device....

  5. On 23 JUL I was in the same situation. I applied anyway at the Immigration office on Suan Phlu and let my wife do the talking. They gave me a 2 month extension on the spot. I did not show any of my bank statements that show that I have more than enough to stay for a while...instead I told them that I do not have a job but that I am looking.

After everything was done, my wife asked the officer what to do if I haven't been able to find a job and still want to stay, then she mentioned going to Malaysia and applying for another visa at the embassy there and I would get another year visa.

  6. At least you held your ground... stupid me, I didn't even think about that until after the marriage papers were signed.

Now I keep everything in overseas accounts and only transfer in what I need for any given period of time. I love my wife and all, but from the stories I've read here and on tons of other thai related websites, I'm going to cover my ass as I've worked too hard and risked my life for what I have now.

  7. Can somebody help me with my addiction ;-)

    LOL

I've been seriously considering it!! I want one of the new windows powered, gps enabled pda's so bad, most of them now are the same size or smaller than the N95, with the added fact that I can do SO much more with a Windows powered device....though the 5MP camera would be hard to give up.

    What made you do it?

  8. Ouch!! That sucks.....

My 500GB external died on me a few days ago, though I'm running Win XP. The file system was trashed and could not be repaired.

I ran (literally RAN) to Pantip and got a new Western Digital MYBook ES 500GB drive and started data recovery on my old one...took 4 days and it finally crapped out before I could recover the last 30gb or so (I had close to 500gb of data on it)

The software I used was "Stellar Phoenix FAT & NTFS" and it has worked wonders for me over the years..... they have a version for ext2/3 & UFS....maybe you can find it on one of the torrent sites. I figure as long as the issue is only the file system, this software should be able to recover the data.

  9. I didn't have to present pictures for the 1st visa, though it was optional. The officer said that if I had submitted pictures or shown a birth record of a baby with me named as the father, the visa would be issued instantly. If we were unable to provide pictures or a b/c for a baby, then we had to wait 7 days. I didn't provide either of those items. The passport with visa stamp was ready in 4 days, I picked it up on day 5. The cost was THB 2000.

  10. What about the one where you go to great lengths to explain how a washing machine (or other appliance) should be used and - next day - she's doing something completely different because she has discussed the problem with friends (who have never used such an appliance) and they have advised her differently.

Always, always - the advice of friends is more important than the advice of 'my farang'.

AGREED!! My wife will go to the doctor, get meds and be told how to take them by the perscribing doctor. Then on the way out she'll stop by another pharmacy (This is at St. Louis hospital) and ask the people there. Then she'll ask me, at which point I ask her to translate the label for me, which is very clear on how to take the meds....then she'll call her mom and friends to discuss the matter further.

    Papaya Salad....

Of course, money, but I've been getting real tight with that and have stopped supporting her family, so we'll see what happens.

As it has been said earlier, plenty of fish in the sea....

  11. Check the specs on the headset, most can only pair and work with 1 device at a time. I have a Plantronics Voyager 510 that allows me to hop between my office phone, cell phone and computer from the headset....

Once you've paired the device with your computer, make sure your cell phone is not trying to connect to the device (turn it off for the test) and go in to Skype. Go to TOOLS, OPTIONS, AUDIO. You need to set your mic and speakers to use the bluetooth device so that way Skype knows you'll be using that to communicate when it's open.

I had one thing happen with my computer after installing the bluetooth drivers....after they installed, my audio settings in Windows XP all pointed to the bluetooth, I had to change them back to the sound card so that Win XP knew where to direct it's sounds. Just a thought, in case you don't hear anything out of your PC speakers after getting the bluetooth stuff up and running. To get to Win XP audio settings, go to START, CONTROL PANEL, SOUNDS & AUDIO DEVICES, AUDIO Tab..make sure the system sound card is the device selected.

  12. Well, it's been fun but i guess I better find a job...

I came in to the Kingdom on 9 APR on a standard entry stamp. Got married on 23 APR, got my "marriage visa" (as the Immigration office calls it) which was valid until 28 JUL. Went back in today to see if I can get an extension and for how long because I don't have a job and I got approved for another 2 month stay on the same visa.

I asked the Immigration officer what my next step should be and explained that I have plenty in various banks and she said that when this 2 month extension is up, I can make a visa run (she mentioned malaysia to be specific) and get another extension there before reentering the Kingdom, no questions asked....or I could just find a job which I'm working on.

I might go back to Iraq for work, in which case the stamps won't matter....but I'd like to maintain an unbroken record of active stamps. Any ideas? I guess I could go to the Thai Consulate in Dubai on my way in and out of Iraq...

  13. The internet makes it VERY easy to start a new identity for yourself.....why not do that and scam him back? It would sure be fun to see the whole thing played out.

    http://www.scambuster419.co.uk/

That site might give you some ideas....you might still loose the money but I think it would be worth it....

Have you tried talking to your bank? Was it a Thai bank? Did you fill out the paperwork in person? I'd try to get (read: con) the bank in to refunding my money from the guys account and let them handle it.

  14. I've stayed at the River Resort (Siam River Hotel) and it's very nice.... I paid about 1500 for a LARGE suite which was perfect for the wife's improv family gathering.

1 bedroom w/ king size bed, tv, full bathroom and balcony (if on 2nd floor)....the living room has a full sofa set with tv, full bathroom and balcony (if on 2nd floor)

  15. I sent you the link for NSS.....

    http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58225

That link has info on product codes and changing the code....I hope it works for you? I'm not sure if this will work to unlock the phone or not, but at least it'll "de-brand" the phone and let you update the firmware to the latest rev.....you can write down your original product code under the battery, then change it to one of the ones in the above link, update your phone with nokia sw updater, then change the product code back to what it was.....

  16. Have you tried TM-UK? I've seen other people get theirs unlocked in 2-3 days though they claim 28 days return time....

I wonder if reflashing the N95 to the latest firmware while changing the product code through NSS will work....I know it works to de-brand a phone, my N95 is now running v12.0.013....
