  1. LAZYBOY???

You must me ahmerrykan! I would never say NOT to get a Soi Dog, but I would never get a Soi Dog.

I know a lady with some Beagles, Rottweilers, and another with English Bulldogs.

PAWS is where I would go if I were you. Soi Dog is nasty and heartbreaking. IMHO, it is mismanaged.

But, by all means, Dog Ownership is very rewarding, no matter what the breed.

Just make sure it is a healthy one, or you will be paying for more than you asked for.

    ~a~

And whilst this lady you know is banging out litters for baht, the Soi Dog gets nastier and even more heartbreaking as no one considers relieving it of some of it's inmates? Think about it. Christ. :o

  2. Hi

We are leaving heathrow on Saturday 6th as we are emigrating to Vietnam, however, our flight from Belfast gets in on Friday evening and we dont leave until 10.30 Saturday morning. Now,we wont obviously be able to check in until Saturday and thus i was wondering if we can sleep anywhere in the airport,ie on a seat!!Its just i dont want to stay in a hoel and get taxis blah blah unless i have too.Any advise as always greatly appreciated :D

Of course you can, if you're willing to put up with the discomfort. :o

  3. They've been laughing about that interview on the PAD stage. He's let his guard down. His attempt to show himself to the ingenuous of the world, as some hard done by, misunderstood saviour of the poor of Thailand, indeed, the world (yoohoo, you listening Mr Head? ) has now taken such a severe knock, he's never coming back as anything than the richest inmate of aThai Home for The Bewildered, as we Irish say :o

  4. I fear a civil war between north and south. The battleground will be Bangkok. This is s Buddhist country. How can all this happen? It's so sad.

I don't think someone from the North will fight unless paid.

I don't think so many yellow would turn up unless paid too.

no they are not, I sit alone in the office as all my staff is there....they don't receive 1 Satang, a lot of their friends and relatives from the south came, all without receiving money. All tell they are ready to die for the Monarchy.

Oh I gave up a long time ago trying get these numbskulls to accept the fact the PAD attendees are not paid in the way Taksin's rent a mob are (well, doesn't take much of a leap of the imagination to have realised that Taksin, having found it really was quite easy to buy power, continued along that path by attempting to buy his way back in, does it?). :D

And if anyone cares to educate themselves, take a look at the PAD stage and during each and every day you will see lists of donations from as little as 200 baht up to and over tens of thousands, being announced. Does anyone really think the Thais would be willing to fund bribes to attend from their own pockets? Seriously?

And by the by, spouse, with enough baht for the fare/board, attempted to board bus to Bangkok yesterday afternoon to attend today's rally to find every bus booked solid, and many people at the bus station were unable to get up to Bangkok also. So bus company, along with some members on this forum, seriously underestimated the number of people wanting to attend.

One last thing's puzzled me regarding the virulent anti PAD mob on this forum, is that the PAD comprise a 'royalist elite'! I would like to disavow anyone entertaining any stupid notion that the rural population are any less loyal to the monarchy than the PAD are! :o

Deputy Metropolitan Police Chief Police Major-General Amnuay Nimmano

NCCC to probe police over crackdown on protesters

The National Counter Corruption Commission (NCCC) agreed Tuesday to set up a panel to investigate National Police Chief Patcharawat Wongsuwan, Metropolitan Police Chief Suchart Muankaew and his Deputy Amnuay Nimmano over the lethal crackdown on People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) demonstrators last Tuesday. The crackdown left two people killed and more than 400 injured. The move came after the Democrat Party handed a letter to the NCCC, accusing PM Somchai Wongsawat, Pol Gen Patcharawat, Pol Maj-Gen Amnuay, Pol Lt-Gen Suchart and Deputy Police Chief Pol Gen Jongrak Juthanont of using lethal weapons to disperse anti-government protesters. Somchai and Jongrak, however, do not face investigation.

    Amnuay this time...

Observers welcomed to monitor police response to protesters

BANGKOK, Nov 23 (TNA) - Independent bodies and committees are allowed to closely monitor the authorities' operations in response to Monday's intended mass demonstration by the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), a senior police officer reported.

Speaking after Sunday's joint meeting between police, the army and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration officials to plan their response to the protest, Pol. Maj-Gen. Amnuay Nimmano, Deputy Metropolitan Police Bureau Commander, said that the permission is aimed at showing official sincerity in ensuring that the police use peaceful means to deal with the mass PAD protest at Parliament Monday.

Maj-Gen. Amnuay insisted that the police will adhere to international standards of practice to cope with the situation but declined to reveal any details about the operation.

He called for the PAD group to protest peacefully and to refrain from any verbal attack which might incite violence, adding that the PAD leaders will be held responsible if violence occurs.

Meanwhile, Peoples' Alliance supporters from more distant provinces moved to join the anti-government activities at Government House on Sunday. In the latest development, PAD core leader Pipob Thongchai asked some demonstrators to move from the Government House to Makkawan Bridge as the compound was crowded.

Meanwhile, four schools near the protest site are closed on Monday.

Well what the hel_l is that supposed to mean?! If the PAD protesters chant Taksin/Somchai ork bpai! Is Amnuay suggesting this would give carte blanch to the police to open fire?! The pen is mightier than the sword (or chant in this case), but no match for a gun ?!!! :o

  6. the Thai people know he is corrupt, but 90% of the Thai's want him to return - see what I mean about the intelectually challenged ?

Not 80% governing Thailand and 20% making $ - Your percentages are way off - anything he did meaning 100% was in his own interest - anything he gave was from taxpayers money NOT from HIS own money and the sole purpose was to increase his power base amoung the poor because anyone with 1/2 a brain should be able to realize what he was doing - most Thais have a simply way of looking at things - during his time business was doing well - so, now business is not doing well - explaination is simple Thaksin was good for us so if he comes back things will be good again ... - a lot of the ones that do understand what has been going on are out there protesting

Are you watching ASTV right now? YOU'RE SO VERY VERY WRONG!!!

  7. Jitagon, since when does have bread have flavour? :o I always thought its what you put on the bread that gives it flavour!?

So what's the point of making all those farmhouse/baguettes/sourdough/wheatgerm/ciabatta/foccacia ... oh Christ, why am I bothering. You're an idiot.

  8. GH, is it difficult for you to understand that "it's not wrong to take care of your parents as they get older?". It should applauded not degrade.

Yes, but let's draw the line at taking care of one's parents with other people's money.

And then there are the Farangs dishing the cash to 'Parents' who are younger than themselves..... Yep that's to be applauded too.

When you are married. It's family money not individual. Obviously in your family that isn't the case.

"An old fool shall soon part with his money" (farang or not). Should she just ignore her parents needs because her husband is old? The old fool should have known what to expect when he married her. If he didn't bother to find out her situation than he fits the term "old fool".

So, if you happen to find yourself on the bones of your arse, her family should help you out too?

  9. Actually, I own chihuahuas since the condos are small in BKK and i fly with one of them often. I HAVE been out there and it's depressing because it is dirty and loud and not pleasant at all (compared to the BKK place that I go weekly)

The OP doesn't say anything about Rotties, Dobies, or Pitts .... he does mention 2 breeds that are highly trainable and good around people/kids. (Not that those other breeds are not ... but there are issues with them)

People make their own decisions ... unless of course you want to be the one to choose what is right for them! I am not a status obsessed anything ... but I am not a condescending prat when it comes to making a personal about the animals someone wants to invest love, time, energy and money into either :o

I have to agree I think chihuahuas possibly a bit thin (no pun intended) on the ground in the dog shelters here. What with the Thai obsession with anything small and er, cuddly.

Yes, It's Dirty, and Loud, and Not Pleasant At All - a very good reason to give a home to one of the lovely dogs you will find there, Big Dogs too! My dog's a large Thai/Retriever mix, and anyone will tell you that 'mixes', or mongrels as they are referred to in the West, are the most loyal and intelligent dogs there are. They also lack the defaults of 'purebred' inbreeding, neurosis. Particularly those produced amongst the unregulated breeders here in Thailand.

People make their own decisions. But I think that if someone has taken the trouble to post on an internet forum, stating that they don't mind if the dog is from a breeder or that it's a soi dog, they should at least be disavowed of the fact that a 'purebred', ie from a commercial breeder, is the only way to go.

Again. Please do take a trip up to the Dog Shelter. How much of your time would that take? I'm no evangelist. I just think the kneejerk 'it must be a purebred from a breeder, rather more depressing than a half hour spent exploring options for your choice of a pet dog in the shelter. Keep your options open. You won't be disappointed.

  10. If someone wants a purebred or wants to just raise a larger breed from puppyhood then they should go for it. However there are often litters of young dogs at the Soi dog place and it is not a bad ride, though the place is a bit depressing.

Well, first off, 'purebred'. For's and Against's, apart from some perceived vanity 'Anyone?'

Place is a bit depressing. Why's that then?

Go and take a look for yourself at the dogs needing a home. Not too far. And your post suggested you might not be the status obsessed prat some of the farang here seem to be. Nah, I wanna rotweiller/doberman/pitbull (funny how no one ever asks where they might be able to lay their hands on a cocker spaniel or a shitszu), why's that then? :o

  11. Why Do U Guys Do It?, support her family that is.

Perhaps they know the consequences to themselves of not handing over the cash.

Any business will fall apart when the cash flow stops.

spot on,....in most cases the white knight in shining armour ( aka the farang ) will whisk the maiden from a fate worse than death ( a life on the game ) and pay the monthly installments, usually WAY over what said maiden was earning,. and those that dont see it as a "rent a wife " scheme are the ones wearing the horses blinkers,. :D

These guys speak from bitter experience chaps, take note of what they say and don't do it !!! :o

Forgive me Maigo I had no intention of hitting a nerve?

GH, is it difficult for you to understand that "it's not wrong to take care of your parents as they get older?". It should applauded not degrade.

Just because western society elected to place their parents in a retirement community instead of taking care of them does't mean the rest of the world is wrong for doing so.

Your parents took care of you so what's wrong with taking care of them in time of needs?. YEAH THAT'S A BAD THING TO DO.

Although I do appreciate your sentiment. Still. Kinda not quite there yet are you?

  12. Looking to buy a dog, but not sure where to begin. I dont care if its a soi dog or one from an actual breeder. I know of the Soi dog foundation, but have emailed the man, and have been told that most of the dogs are already 2 or 3 years old, set in thier ways already i think. A bigger dog would be nice as well (Gold lab, German Shepard) as my Gf wants one for when i return to work every month. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Jeb

I've had a soi dog for the past two years, told by the vet was two years old when I got him, couldn't wish for a nicer, sweeter tempered dog. I believe, having been through a rough time, they're more aware of having been given a second chance at a good life with an owner that cares about them.

Just take a trip up to the dog shelter and take a look at all the wonderful dogs there, either abandoned as pups, or left out on the street by farang who didn't think far enough ahead that they might have to relocate. You won't regret it. Please don't buy a dog from these 'in it for the money' breeders here. There are many wonderful dogs there, just in need of a second chance. You won't regret it.

  13. After reading countless threads on here about guys who marry thai girls then start supporting her family? why do you guys do it? its culture(not) right? to support the family but do they give you support back?

I am married to a thai girl and i would never send money to anyone in her family, if they want some money then come and cut my garden or something, earn it.

I guess some guys get blackmailed into it, if they dont give then the wife tells him he is no good!!

Im just curious to know why many guys do it?

Oh Dear God this is just another so easy to understand ever recurring to point of somnambulism question.

Sad bastard comes to Third World Country (funny how they all say 'my 22, 25, 29, year old girlfriend, but never mention their own ages by the way), Thailand in particular, because it not only has an endless supply of cheap whores, BUT, they get to eat food which will not tax their imagination, comfort zone, and get to mix with many kinds of their ilk everywhere.

Scenario. Meet girl, easily enough, they're everybloodywhere, young enough to be dauther/grandaughter who will 'take care', where noone else gives a stuff, in particular farang women, for incredibly obvious reasons I suspect. Marriage means bugger all here, except for visa being easier.

Aforesaid Farang, for the first time since his missus back 'ome gave him the bum's rush, and having realised, even given all the porno showing unattractive men getting it on with pretty women - hey! That's how it works chaps - Can't go showing equally attractive men and women, or will definitely not appeal to Sad Bastard With Box Of Cleanex, no empathy) and realsing not having a cat's chance in hel_l of ever being able to find some other woman to put up with his lack of hygiene/charm/social skills and boring conversation, finds 'True Love' (or lub) with acquiesent asian female - she thinks you have more money than you actually do, you dare not admit it/she would not understand anyway, you're White, godammit, becomes terrified at prospect of new tee ruk taking a hike, and so will give her and her er, brother, family, extended family, buffalo, everything she asks for, just to keep her there, with him. Until the money runs out.

Having said the aforegoing, I do understand why so many men do it. After all, long time dead and all that, and what the hel_l else does a socially incompetent, dull, boor of a man do until he dies?

I hope not all farang women are like you!!!!

Didn't take long for the bashers of the farang woman to raise their undoubtedly ugly head.

So let me make myself clear. I completely understand (no really I do), that having been divorced by Doris of Dagenham, and having taken a long hard look at future prospects for an aging man in farangland and found it a bleak and daunting prospect, the grapevine advice to go to a third world country, and hit the jackpot with some acquiescent peasant who will take care of you into, hopefully, your dotage, on the mutual understanding that the farang man will financially support the asian (okay, in this case Thai) woman, for his getting his dinner cooked, the house cleaned, sex on demand and control of the remote, is probably, in my view, a very good option. I don't blame you. The problem I have is the delusion. When the women start asking for money on a regular basis for their extended family (and I'm not talking about the occasional one off crisis here), said farang man will be bled dry and whining ad infinitum on Thaivisa.com. Same same as their continual bleating about how they lost everything in their divorce from Doris. 'Yeah, took me for everfin' I 'ad.

  14. For those dishing out the money to "relatives" what if you went skint and they had a good year and you needed emergency cash for your medical bills, would they reciprocate?

Let's suppose that you boyfriend's mother needed some help and that you had far more than enough money to help her. Would you then pose that same question before deciding whether to assist her?

Not really sure but a fair question. BTW, you are assuming you really know for a fact that the Mama is really sick, in so many cases, the hospital money thing is a scam.

    More interesting questions:

If you had the money and didn't pay it, would you lose your partner?

If you didn't have the family support money, would you have a Thai partner in the first place?

    I don't know the answers.

Well then I will try to enlighten you. Most farangs here are too idle to make themselves aware of how things work, in a practical sense here. I would hazard a guess that, apart from a few baht to pay for the medicines from the hospital dispensary, there is a 30 baht health scheme in place, of which farang are not aware, (which was in place before Toxin took credit for it, by the way), and most farang simply assume that the 40, 50, 60k 'hospital' bill, is cheap compared to what they pay at that fancy hospital on Sumkumvit, for instance.

As to the second question: If you had the money and didn't pay it,, which assumes you have been asked for it in the first place, would you lose your partner: Absolutely.

And if 'you didn't have the family support money, would you have a Thai partner in the first place? If you met them in a boom boom bar on soi cowboy, work it out for yourselves. Do you really think they work there just for the short time fee alone? They're looking at you as an investment/pension fund. And once it dries up, so do they. Next!

Ahhhhh such another sad story from a contributor who obviously has been rejected by a sweet Thai thing....... as well as running low on his medicaid assistance or else he would have had a successful lobotomy instead of the botched one he obviously received. Perhaps he enjoys stereotyping all the world's relationships, not just the Farang/Thai since he has never experienced one for himself..... (Unless you call 'Rosie Palm' a relationship) :o

Ahhhhh, here we go again, presumptions presumptions. I am not a guy, have never been rejected by a er, 'sweet Thai thing', am neither American (medicaid? wa's that?), nor in need of financial aid for medical expenses, for anything, and er, jus' for the record and all that, have been happily married to a THAI MAN for the past ten years. Oh, and with nary a request for a handout from the inlaws.

  17. Be interesting to see how this plays out...will the big bucks change the rules? If so expect PAD to go ballistic.

Why on earth are you bringing up the PAD on this particular issue ?If the 'PAD' 'go ballistic'? :D

Go on ... As you were saying? :o

  18. PAD to organise mass rally on Sunday to counter latest attack on protesters

In response the latest attack on anti-government protesters, People's Alliance for Democracy will organise a mass rally on Sunday and will march to show their anger over the government and police's violence on them.

PAD's co-leader Sonthi Limthongkul said in a press conference on Thursday that the latest attack which killed one protester and injured many others clearly showed that the government joined hands with police to block the protesters' rights of peaceful protests.

Sonthi encouraged people to join the mass rally which will start at 2pm on Sunday and they will move the protest out of the Government House. However Sonthi did not say where the protest will go.

This is exactly the motive why PAD could have bomb themselves You fool!. So they can gain support and gather enough people for an up-raising.

You really want to milk that B.S. for all it's worth don't you?

    Oh that words uprising...

they have been up-raising peoples ideas for some time.

You really think they want a revolution, or to just get rid of Thaksins's cronies?

    Silly question you're hardcore.

The PAD have been able to garner MASSIVE support in their quest to put a stop to Taksin The Self Serving Demagogue and his ilk, for the past six months (and for those of you who are still in any doubt as to his motives, just take a look at who he chose to act as his poxy (sic) 'government' :o .

Did the PAD need to 'bomb themselves' to this end? er, No! Do we, or do we not have an awful lot of stupid, ignorant, delusional and uninformed posters on this forum as to the aims of that sad, pathetic, cast out Taksin, Yes! Idiot.

  19. Sae Daeng is already under investigation for his remarks about bombings and threatening a superior officer. He stands to serve 12 years in jail if convicted. He may be too powerful to be indicted though.

Then again there was a time not too long ago that people claimed Thaksin would never get into trouble.

Hate to disillusion you, but he hasn't got into 'trouble'. He will arrive at BKK International Airport. AND THEN WHAT?! Nothing. Nada. A show of leading him off to some pre destined government office for a couple of hours, a lot of 'media' reporting. And then sod all.

    I'm sorry for all the Thais who thought they might get a better, fairer, country out of all this. But, given the fact he and his missus were given the usual kreang jai, carte blanche, go ahead to make a run for it (well, they just didn't come back did they?, we wuz shocked that our 'Government Officials' could be so easily bribed as to let him make a run for it :o }

So all their fellow, equally Proud To Be Thai, countrymen would have camped out in all weathers, suffering a cowardly grenade attack. For what? Same bloody same ...

  20. Controversial general warns PAD more will die on Sunday

Maj Gen Kattiya Sawasdiphol, a pro-Thaksin army officer, Thursday warned the People's Alliance for Democracy that a massacre would happen Sunday if they hold a mass demonstration in front of Parliament.

"I would like to say that anyone wanting to join the rally should reserve a temple for his or her own funeral," Kattiya said. "Being united, you will be slain in group."

He said the bomb attack inside the Government House early Thursday would not be the last one but PAD opponents would launch bomb attacks against it every night.

Kattiya earlier faced a disciplinary probe for having threatened the PAD with attacks by warriors he had trained.

    http://www.nationmultimedia.com/breakingne...newsid=30088941

    -----

    Speechless!!!

Making threats to massacre groups of people! I too am speechless.

Aren't there laws here to prosecute people for inciting hatred, or is there no real rule of law here anymore?

Well, first off, no there have never been laws here against 'inciting hatred' - <deleted>? You think u are in the Politically Correct West? :D - dream on :o And secondly, 'is there no real rule of law here -ANYMORE?!' Do please enlighten us as to when there was Any Real Rule of Law Here :D

By the way. Thaksin will be back in the saddle soon as, with merely a nod to the Thai judicial process, same same as always (Money Is God here - always has been, always will be, exactly the same as any other third world Asian country) and the nigh on six month protest against corrupt government will all have amounted to nought.

I love the Thais. But I do wish they would find some bloody balls.

  21. Well having read this article.

There are "reports" of tampon placement, but nothing seen first hand by the reporter.

And 'alleged' black magic rituals. Sondhi says he is doing dhamma-based Buddhist rituals,

same as many Thai's, Somchai and Thaksin included. Spiritual cleansing.

There is nothing to confirm anything about black magic except some comment on Newin.

Many Thais fall back on buddhist protections if they fear black magic.

Since many country Thais do believe in BM, including Thaskin himself,

it might make the supports rest easier. And make merit.

They ALSO cleaned the streets on their way.. NOW THAT is unusual here...

Not much difference from the wests padres blessing the soldiers before a battle etc.

Or your local minster asking for blessings in tough times.

They are not falling back on 'Buddhist' protections, there are none in Buddhism save for one's own actions leading to karma. Not even the ubiquitous 'amulet' - (only in Thailand is this particular piece of nonsense believed - try wearing one in Burma for instance, no Burman would give it a glance), nor the rest of the many an various pieces of ANIMIST practices here).

Buddhism is to Thais as Hinduism is to the Balinese. A mix of either religions/culture/philosophy, and Animism. With barely a nod to the roots from which both sprang.

And the poster pointing out that the uneducated rural class were the same in their credulity as the ruling elite, was spot on.

  22. Despite being put off a few times on the slowness of downloads here, I once again have grasped the bull by his horns and installed utorrent. It's taken me several hours to download a couple of albums, but, undeterred, and fueled by the total lack of anything other than the latest blockbuster movie being available here, am into my second day of downloading a movie.

I downloaded a program called Burnaware, it having been recommended by upload.com and computerworld. Can I burn straight from utorrent box (when completed downloading of course) to a cd/dvd? I've had a look at the 'user' guide on Burnaware, clear as mud, and mo isn't obvious, well not to me anyway :o how to get the movie/album onto a portable disc. Much rather burn it to a cd and view/listen on tv/cd/dvd player than stuck in fromt of little modem with crap sound.

    Anyone :D ? Thankyou. :D
