  1. Drew noyes states - "..............investing in Thai stocks or depositing money into Thai bank savings accounts or interest-paying funds like Property Management and Development Co., Ltd." - if the letter is supposed to be a sincere open letter, why is there a plug for something that Drew has an interest in? Thai Visa should not give free publicity to investments that may be highly suspect.

  2. Had an encounter one time on a beach in the US. I listened and then asked them what they know about Hinduism and Buddhism, and started giving them an Eastern perspective on religion. One of them became very interested, the second one realized that the first one was becoming too interested. He quickly grabbed her and left, but the seeds of doubt were sown. wai.gif

  3. do a search on google - "android 2.2 help" (If you have the Cooper model, then it's version 2.2, not the newer 2.3) One of the search results is a downloadable google file on how to use android 2.2. It will also show you help forums. There is a "how to" on the phone also. Go to "Settings", then go to "About Phone" then go to "System tutorial"

I've had mine for about 9 months now. Love it. Much better than Apple. I still find small things by accident I didn't know.

  4. So instead of going to a real lawyer's office and getting an hour's worth of advice for free AND a free cup of coffee, you go to a coffee shop run by a lawyer(?) who can't make enough income in a real lawyer's office and PAY for a cup of coffee............

  5. The last time I looked, no banks IN Thailand are acceptable for direct deposit by SS. It is probably being deposited into the US branch of Bangkok Bank - true? I am sure that bank transfers between the US Bangkok Bank and Thailand Bangkok Banks are not done automatically, but rather manually. I am sure the people in the US Bangkok Bank don't work on weekends or Thai holidays..............

  6. I wonder if the Thai people that I know in Nong Khaem, southwest part of Bangkok, who have had to live in a school sleeping on the floor for the last month with almost no access to food or water and deep flooding even now, I wonder if they would agree with that?

Meanwhile in Chiang Mai, the 7-11s seem to be turning into detergent stores with filled shelfs of nothing but detergent..keeps the illusion that there is no lack of goods in the stores.........

  7. Overheating may be a simple answer to explain a more complex answer. Thai ISPs don't build up there infrastructure until the bandwidth starts to drag. When you first turn on your modem/router, they assign an IP address to it. As more modems/routers are turned on, they assign new IP addresses. The ones at the top of the assignment get a better response time then those at the bottom. Turn off your modem/router for 30-40 seconds and when you turn on, the ISP server assigns a new IP address to your modem/router and you should get better response. Over heating is a simpler answer for most Thais to understand to get you to turn off and on your modem/router to get a new IP address assigned.

Turn your modem/router off and on once a day to insure your response times.

Very cheap modem/routers may have very cheap wiring on the inside causing additional attenuation problems.

  8. Thai law specifies that leases can be made for up to 30 years. It does not say anything about lease options. The law was made less than 30 years ago, so whether an additional 30 year option is enforceable has not been tested in Thai court. Most CM lawyers will steer you to doing a Usfurct lease. This type of lease only gives you the right to use the land until you die. It does not allow you to sell your house at a later date. Recommend a 30 year lease and put in the clause that you have the right to transfer, give, or sell your leasehold rights without the leasor's approval. Make sure the lease is put on the back of the chanote. The lease amount can be 1000 baht for 30 years.

  9. Stayed at the Paradise just recently. Disappointed. I booked the small room as that was the only one available on Agoda at the time. Bathroom had barely enough room to move in. Wall plug outlets in the rooms are all 2 prong, so if you have a 3 prong adapter for your laptop, forget it. I found a 3 prong outlet in the lobby to charge my computer. The wifi is horrible. If you are in the main lobby near the receptionist, it's got good connection. In your room, forget it. very poor connection. I finally gave up trying to do anything on my computer in the room. TV - one english channel , ABC from Australia. On the good side, breakfast was good and included, room was good except for wall plugs and bathroom size. I saw the size of the bathrooms in the other larger rooms, and they were decent size. Overall I was disappointed. I little bit more and it has the makings of a good hotel. I'll only stay there again if I can book the larger room through Agoda, and I'll bring a plug to convert my 3 prong to a 2 prong. Oh, and I forgot 1 more item. THey have airport pickup. But they had come and gone when my flight arrived. I had to call and wait at the airport for them to come back for me...................and I was on a domestic flight on time.

  10. I've asked several small shops about their supplies. They've all said no problem, takes a little longer now because the route from bkk is several 100s of kms longer. But they don't relay on large distribution centers, but smaller suppliers, so their logistics chain is still working. Go and look at a smaller shop, they'll have.

First came to India when I came to Asia. There's no paper there outside the big cities. Takes about a month to get over the mental block of cleaning yourself with your left hand, but after that, no problem. It's actually much cleaner. Water runs continuously, you'll learn how to clean by doing. Hand is not dirty as water runs all the time. Wash your hands after, much cleaner. I can't imagine going back to paper.........

  11. Prices for housing and condos do not appreciate rapidly in Chiang Mai because the vast majority of buyers are Thais and Thais in the north prefer to buy a new house (and more are now willing to buy new condos) and not an existing structure. There has been a good appreciation in land values. There has also been a good appreciation in shophouse values.

There has been no marked increase in people from Bangkok looking to buy in Chiang Mai. People live in Bangkok because of jobs and economic rewards - and will continue to do so. They can't just pick up and move to Chiang Mai.

  12. What the hospital told you and gave you makes no sense. if it's a viral infection, then why give you an antibiotic? Antibiotics only work against bacteria, don't do anything against a virus. It's probably a bacterial infection. If it doesn't clear in the next day, try an oral antibiotic, like azithromycin. I had a red eye infection several years ago, the hospital gave me the antibiotic eye drops and they had no effect. The oral antibiotic killed it.

  13. Talked with a Thai I know in Samut Prakon last night. Their Japanese factory has no water damage, but they have stopped 2 of their 3 shifts for at least 2 days - their component supplier is underwater. The floods are hitting the economy in factories not in the flood zones...........
