  1. The media won't report that anyone died because they have been told by the police that nobody did die so there is no proof that anyone did die. All a big cover up.

So where is it confirmed that the Frenchman did die?

  2. La Gaetana review>>>

A good dinner, less wine, is about 1,300 baht.

In La Gaetana, Gianni and his wife Chonticha have created one of the areas most homey eateries. With sea-green shutters and simple wooden furniture, the intimate seating give visitors to La Gaetana the feeling of being in the kitchen of someone's home in southern Italy.

The chefs at La Gaetana specialize in food from the Campania region of Italy and the menu is enough to make your whiskers stand on end. Daily specials are posted on the blackboard, together with a selection of starters, mains and desserts. We ordered a bottle of 2001 Dolcetto D'Alba by Bersan, a heavy red with flavors of blackcurrant and vanilla. Our meal started with carpaccio, slices of cold beef, salmon and smoked duck drizzled in the restaurant's own special sauce; next was zuppetta di fagioli, a bean soup; bacon sauteed in red wine and served with a green salad with an order of mixed bruschetta being added to the dishes quickly piling up on our table; Sea scallop admirers will be pleased as they are drenched in extra virgin olive oil, pesto sauce and slivers of lime and are a house favorite as the pesto is homemade while Gianni also grows his own basil and rosemary.

For the main course, I chose the medium-rare Australian lamb cutlets with sauteed vegetables while one of my dining partners selected the salmon fillet which is prepared to your choice of cooking style of sauce. She chose it with pesto, spinach and brown bread; but it probably is equally delicious with either the spicy tomato or the cream sauce with lemon. Between dishes a sorbet is served to cleanse the palate. My other companion had the lasagna with ricotta cheese, pork, beef and egg filling. It was light, fluffy and another hit of the evening while an honorable mention is the tortellini with smoked salmon and fresh cream.

Staff are efficient and attentive to the needs of guest's as they are no less professional than in any 5-star hotel resturant in the city. A good selection of wine from 800 to 6,500 baht, mostly Italian, allows diners to select from a map of Italian wine regions.

    Left turn only at roundabouts

PHUKET : As part of Phukets' new transport plans to speed up traffic flows, ease congestion and reduce road traffic accidents the Phuket Land Transport Office has announced through a Press Release that as of today all traffic is only permitted to turn left at all roundabouts on Phuket.

    1.1230656820.roundabout.jpg

Effectively this means the end to traffic build ups at roundabouts as there will be no traffic coming from the right to give way to and all vehicles arriving at a roundabout will be able to turn left immediately without having to come to a stop.

Should a driver wish to go straight on at a roundabout they now have to turn left then make a U-turn and then turn left again when they get back to the roundabout. Making a right turn will take a little longer as it will mean turning left, doing a U-turn, turning left at the roundabout again and making another U-turn and finally turning left again to complete the right turn. The inconvenience of having to drive a little further to negotiate a roundabout will be far outweighed by the advantage of being able to drive continuously.

Phuket Provincial Police Commander Dakep Pongitant welcomed the innovative move citing that fewer officers would be required at roundabouts on the island releasing them to serve the community better in other areas.

The Phuket Governor said "This is a world first. Everybody can now negotiate roundabouts quickly without having to stop and can get to where they are going quicker. We are the first to do this and I expect more Provinces and eventually the whole of Thailand to follow. It is so simple. Why has nobody thought of doing this before?"

Our roving reporter out at the Heroines Monument roundabout early this morning reported traffic flowing uninterrupted with happy drivers smiling and waving to each other.

  4. Why have you reposted that?

Anyway welcome to the land of cover ups. One farang did die yet nothing in the media.

Revenge attacks on the Hollywood staff are expected so maybe this isn't the end of it. Why doesn't everyone email the Gazette and the other media to ask why they are not reporting this?

  5. Lets hear more from your eyewitness friends. Some very glaring differences.

My friends say that the fight was farang v farang is bullsh1t. It was definitely the Hollywood Thai security staff fighting with the farangs initially inside Hollywood using broken broom handles. There were 5 farangs...all big guys. It carried on down the steps and the farangs ended up in Bangla road...at this point the Hollywood staff...about 12 of them...formed a line around the bottom of the steps to stop the farangs trying to get back in and my friends were allowed to exit through the line.

The 5 farangs could have walked away but full of p1ss and booze and being big they must have fancied their chances against the Thais because they came back into the soi and it all kicked off again and one of them got stabbed.

You are not likely to read anything more about this in the media as supposedly some serious "hush" money has been paid to the police by the Thai owner of Hollywood.

Anyone who has been here any length of time knows that many serious incidents get covered up or misreported to make them appear differently to lessen the adverse effect on tourism eg. the Austrian guy at the Seadragon/Bangla junction at Christmas time a few years ago reported as committing suicide knifing himself 3 times when he really had an altercation with a tuktuk/motorbike taxi driver. The Thai guy who died after a shark attack off Kamala? years ago was kept out of the media. Likewise the tourist killed at an elephant trek etc. etc.....

  6. That mark up is nothing compared to what you can pay for water. Small bottle in Tesco 12baht yet you can buy a litre of drinking water for 1 baht out of the vending machines at the roadside.

  7. From another forum>>>

"Apparently it started at Seduction with one French man punching another, one a tourist and the other an expat. Then at Hollywood they saw each other and it was on. One of them stabbed the other and he died at the scene. Not sure if it was the tourist or expat killed one of the French guys was apparently either a body builder or a rather large man!"

  8. Now we know why so many Australians die here!!

    From perthnow website

Dozens of Australians who want to end their lives are jetting to Thailand as the new destination of choice for buying euthanasia drugs. Cheap flights and the ease of obtaining preferred suicide drug Nembutal means right-to-die group Exit International is recommending drug-buying missions to Thailand. One Thai vet supply shop reportedly has a sign in the window that reads: ''Welcome Australians buying vet supplies.''

  9. Too many accidents every day to report all of them. Just yesterday I saw 2 with motorbikes underneath a pickup and the other under a van near the Caltex garage in Kathu. Today when I went from Kata to Chalong there was a bus lying on its' side on the Chalong side of the hill with an ambulance alongside...not likely to make the papers either.

  10. Friend witnessed a huge fight last night. Said it started top of the steps at the entrance to Hollywood. 5 farangs he thinks were Italian started fighting with the doormen. Spilled down the steps onto Bangla road. Thais were breaking sticks to get sharp points and were stabbing the farangs. One farang left in a pool of blood possibly dead :-(

  11. Here's the full length of the new road>>>

South Patong new road behind Le Meridien and Freedom Beach

This is a new road cut through the hills...around 2kms long starting from opposite the Elephant trekking site near the Safari Pub going behind Le Meridien Resort and Freedom Beach and coming out between Tri Trang Beach and Patong Beach. Note the only traffic was one heffelump on his way home after a days work humping tourists around and a pickup truck parked in the middle of the road. Within 2 or 3 years probably be lined with guesthouses/7-11s and beauty salons!

Bit bumpy in places as it's not tarmaced and is still down to a single car width about halfway along around the cliff edge.

  12. The "track" that starts near the Safari Pub is no longer a track...it's a wide graded road that runs for 2kms through the hills above Freedom Beach and comes out between TriTrang and the Merlin. Someone is expecting some serious development to go on there in the next few years>>>

The gate blocking access down to the beach>>>

    S6301960.jpg

  13. That was me. Had the treat like sh1t treatment from the restaurant/landowner. After 3 of us ate and spent 600baht or so in his restaurant we went down onto the beach and stripped off for a swim. He came running over demanding we pay 100 baht each for beach chairs that we didn't want...we just wanted a swim. We had a right argument with him trying to point out to him that we had just spent money paying his exorbitant prices in his restaurant...one of the few Thai restaurants I know that adds service charges on to the bill...and that he did not own the beach and we could do what we liked on it. He kept on saying the restaurant was seperate from the beach and we had to pay for chairs.

After about 5 minutes he gave up...but then his wife? came and took over and started having a go too. We just ignored her and went into the sea for half an hour fearful though that our bikes would be tampered with but all was ok with them when we left. While we in the water saw them make the same demands to a woman who walked onto the beach and sat on a towel near the waters' edge.

    Never been back since.

  14. SoiDog have asked me to clarify their mandate on treating dogs that are sick>>>

"SDF is a no kill shelter and we only euthanise in extreme circumstances.

In this case the dog had no hope of recovery with the cancer being so far advance and at the end of the day nobody wanted him in the first place, so why make him suffer further with chemo treatment and then make him live at the shelter for the rest of his life, that is if he even survived the treatment.

The good thing is we picked up other dogs heading in the same direction and saved them from a long miserable existence, so if any of the posters want to adopt a Koh Siray dog they can."
