  1. if canada is anything like the states i would wait till i get back as its generally cheaper.

Otherwise i would check out the Paddock shop. easy to get to from ekami via sky train and underground,

i recently bought a jacket here in texas for $150 which were priced 8-10 k baht in Bangkok.

I was in the paddock a few weeks ago and bought a ARAI helmet 22000 baht ($700) and boots 11,000 baht ($350), which is not cheap compared with US prices.

  2. The real estate bubble will burst. It's just a question of when and not IF ! I'd sell and buy some nice safe mutual funds. There are tons of them available.

I got money in 5 different funds, YTD best one is -1.2% worst one was -34.7 % , did ok last couple of years though.

You could get at least 6% on a sterling acc at the moment which i would be more than happy to make right now.

  3. Why bother with using a Thai broker? Just buy through the Internet. There are plenty of brokers which can do this for you. For example Internaxx - www.internaxx.lu

As to why you might actually want to invest in the USA, well that's another question.

All internet companys have a charge as well, as I said I won't be actively trading so i'm not bothered about $10 trades etc,

just want to buy long term blue-chip stock that are listed on the NYSE,

i get paid in dollars so i want to invest in dollars as I'm currently changing to euros which is little depressing..

  4. They look good !!! honda as good as said so when they up-graded their 05 Model CBR600 to USD forks. They do make a big differance to the overall look of a bike but for actually performance increase don't think you'd notice.

  5. argh, whatever, you always try to turn things into a "i've been in thailand longer than you, speak better thai, have a husband, yadda yadda" sort of thing. i don't give a rat's ass. i just don't want to minimize the threat to someone new to this place is all. i and several other people have had problems with bangkok taxi drivers, and thus girls alone should be careful with them, and that is that.

hi, my sister is coming over in a couple weeks for 3 weeks doing the "backpacker thing" chang mai, khoi san muai etc before visiting me in pattaya. She is just after 6 months in Oz and NZ which is obviously a different envoirment, not sure she realizes how different things are here !

I think she is traveling alone ! thought the taxis would be safe enough ?? (don't know how i'm going to occupy her in Pattaya as i am married and live a bit outside town)

    Any tips greatly appreciated

    thanks

  6. Sorry I'm a bit late on this. I used to have a 150R (great fun) and now have an NSR 300 which has two 150 barrels.

As someone has already said the CBR is more user friendly but a bit dull. If you want to ride aroound town a lot, are concerned about fuel economy, and don't want to be fussed with filling the oil tank (Shell Advance) every 1000kms go CBR. If on the otherhand you want to buzz around the back roads with a big grin on your face go for a NSR. Some how there is nothing like riding a 2-stroke when it comes on the pipe. Both NSR's will give similar performance but the SP will hold it's value longer and is sought after overseas, so resale .....Spares are still available for both.

HP-wise the SP may have the edge, my 150R was listed at 27hp (105mph), but there is a race kit available which will give 37-ish. I believe the NSR is slightly larger than the CBR with longer wheelbase so is more stable at speed.

Ask Matt at TYGA PERFOMANCE he will answer your questions and sell you some NSR bits, he has also tuned a CBR for Thai drag bike racing, if you prefer that route.

    300 Mike

    Hi Mike,

That NSR 300 sounds like fun, where do you use that ??. You mentioned a guy called Matt from TYGA, where are they based ? ( ilive in Patts ) and do they have a contact no. From their website they don't really give out any personnel info.

i'm looking for a few odds and ends for my RVF,

    cheers

  7. Hi all and thanks for interesting thread!

I live in Pattaya and so close to Bira Circuit. I'm interested to know if any of you know how to get involved with racing on a CBR 150? I would like to practice my need for speed on a race track rather than the streets of Pattaya, as many folks seems to do...

    Regards, Jay

    Jay,

Interseting question. How hard are you trying? How serious are you? Maybe someone already does this an will jump right in. The other possibility is just ride the CBR and buy a KLR? (the Kawa mini motard) and race that. Might be easier to find the group.

    In the meantime:

Ride to Bira. Go to the office and ask.

Ride around and visit every motorbike shop you can find until you find one where the guy races and start talking.

go to www.highsidetours.com and take a couple of lessons.

Go down to the Ace Cafe in Jomtien, Dave the owner has a number of the manager of the track, he also knows the people who run highside tours. You can call up and book the track pretty cheap if it is empty.

I was planning to it but i need to get some proper riding gear, leathers and boots, got stuff back in Ireland but won't pass through there till xmas. Anyhow I fell of my 400 last trip i was back in Patts so that took the wind out of sails as i couldn't walk for two weeks.

I was also considering the option of an NSR or CBR as they would be relatively cheap for parts.

What kind of kit /tires are you planning to use ?

PM me if you get going...

  8. Tell me about it !!, i got an 400 and anytime it leaves the "shop" I have paint chipped, plastics cracked, not put together properly. etc Bought a new battery and he put the overflow direct onto the aluminium swingarm........ and it always leaves with no petrol even though it goes in with some.

Then for some reason when I collect it, they start it up cold and start reving it maxed out....

As much as I hate working on bikes, its a good thing to be able to do basic stuff yourself, so get a haynes manual and join up with a few bike forums.

  10. cheers guys , yeah, its seems no hassle here in Housten, can do it by Fed-ex even though i'v got an Irish passport, All they want is copy of marrige license/translation and copy of wifes passport.

No questions about 400k etc which is aload of crap. I mean its not like I have the option to get the dole in thailand..

  11. I've been married 5 years now to a thai and i work overseas and have been using visa on arrival all the time.

I am in near Housten at the moment so am just about to apply for mulity entry non 0, marriage, $150. I'll be still working over seas on rotation and won't be in thailand over 4 weeks at a time and leave for maybe 4-5 weeks.

My question is, do you have to check in every 3 months to emmigration ??? this may not be possible for me, although i could do it 2-3 weeks either side. Are they ok with this.?

When i got to renew it , can i do so in thailand ?? or do i still have to do it overseas ??

if so, is it worth the bother getting it, ?? as technically i can still use the "tourist" visa

    cheers
