If your daughter is in the English Program primary school, tomorrow AND Thursday are days off because of the final exam.
Exam days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, they have received the schedule 2 weeks ago.
If she goes to secondary school, Wednesday will be the day off.

Hello everyone,
Does someone have any experience with this summer camp ?
I plan to send my 14-years old daugter who is French/Thai (or Thai/French - according to the weather ) .
My goal is to give her a first "boarding" experience. Her English is already excellent (better than her French), so the teaching part is less important, but I would avoid her to have a bad experience, for example beeing the only teenage with 100 small kids, etc.
I've read some good comments about the Khao Yai facilities, but I would appreciate to have a feedback about the summer camp itself.
Many thanks in advance

There is also Nic's Restaurant and Playground.
It's owned by a german couple and they have birthday packages.
Not really a "picnic", but you don't have to manage anything. Just enjoy your food and let the children play.

I bought my Siemens at Homepro 9 years ago and still working very well.
Nothing to compare with washing by hand. Mush cleaner glasses AND everything is sterilized (drying with hot air at 140 °C ).

Hi,
The machine itself is not much more expensive than in Europe.
The problem will be the products. You can find Finish products at Rimping (tablets, salt, etc.) for about 2x the european price and Amazon doesn't deliver these products in Thailand.
Be prepared to ask some friends to carry them in their luggage

Hi Lawrence,
Have a look at Nic's restaurant (www dot nics dot asia)
It's on the road headng west (3044) between Hang Dong road (108) and canal road (121).
They have "birthday packages" for kids and an amazing playground

Hi all,
Does someone have any experience with Windsor uPVC doors and windows?
I'm planning to change all alu-framed w&d at our house and I've asked Windsor and an other company (the one on the 2nd ring road, driving to the West after the underpass of Hangdong road) for a quote.
The Windsor measuring team came to our house and looked very professional. They seem to know their job.
The others, well.... a mix of Mr Bean and Laurel&Hardy
I've seen other topics in the "Do it yourself" forum, but I would like to hear some real experience.
I could find some topics in the CM forum about PVC WIndows 2 months ago. But it seems they have disappeared?
Are there other reliable uPVC suppliers in CM?
Thanks for your answers

Is there a thai word for "Torkret plaster"?
It should look like this:
Many thanks

I had several bad experiences at CM-RAM with my daughters and myself.
I had only good experiences at Rajavej with all the family.
But maybe it depends on the day of the week, the weather, the spiciness of the Somtam or any other "TIT"-thing

Hi,
We have moved (my thai wife, our children and myself) from Bangkok to Chiang Mai last year.
I asked Bangkok immigration if I need to do something special. The answser was no. I just need to write my new address on my next 90-days report.
So, I did my first 90-days report to CM-Immigration by mail and the first time I've been to the office was for my visa extension (based on marriage). They just needed to see our rental contract.

Hello,
I was also looking for this doll.
I had found an "on-line" shop in Chiang Mai, I called them to ask if I can see the dolls, but they didn't have any in stock. The ask for 50% deposit and order them in Bangkok. Expected delivery time 2 weeks.
With all scams, chinese copies, etc., I finally ordered it on Amazon and received it 10 days later.

Hi Thaillsacien, They have an advance booking system at CNX immigration, just check beginning of this forum, can book 100days in advance, just booked my place for end April ,last night.
regards Worgeordie
Thanks, I know the system and I've used it last year, just after they introduced the "1/2-hours" slots
But the one they had in Soi Suan Plue was even better: you could send all the requested documents for a pre-check several weeks before the day of appointment.
-
After 8 years in Bangkok, my thai family and myself moved to Chiang Mai last year. That's exactly the feeling I had when I first went to the immigration office: very dedicated and helpful officers, but completely outdated facilities.
It remembers me the infamous Soi Suan Plue immigration. Just before they moved to Chaeng Wattana, some young officers had set up a kind of "on-line visa extension". This was really great. You could make an appointment online for the one-year visa extension and send all scanned documents by Internet for having them checked.
A few days later, an officer called us back to confirm the appointment and asked us to bring the original document and one more that was missing. They even sent the filled form by e-mail with an appointment number !!
Unfortunately, it looks like some "old-style-bureaucraty" officers didn't like this little worklflow revolution and this service has been suspended after a couple of months.

I'm now in Bangkok.
I've followed the Asia Highway from Nakhon Sawan to Bangkok without any problem. Stopped at 2-3 police boxes to ask if the road is free, they confirmed it's OK for lorries, trucks and pick-up / 4WD. Small cars should avoid.
-
Hi all,
I plan to drive from Nakhon Sawan to Bangkok during the weekend (yes, I know... )
According to this very useful map: http://tinyurl.com/5tu6c58 this should be possible by following road 1/32 (Asia Highway) to Ang Thong, then road 309 and finally road 347 until ring road 9 where I can catch the expressway.
Is anybody living in the area who could confirm that these road are passable for a pick-up?
Many thanks for your answers

Could we please get some more updates on Galare Thong build as due to stay there very soon...... thanks
We had booked there for tomorrow.
My wife called today, not accessible.
-
Thanks a lot.
We are planning to drive until Tak tomorrow.
Iff the bypass is open, that's really great. It's not as bad as we feared.
But you're right, the situation can changes within a few hours.
-
Hi everybody
I'm planning to drive from BKK to the North tomorrow Friday.
How does the main road look like in Nakhon Sawan (I know the bypass is flooded).
Thanks for the answers

90-day notification of staying longer than 90 days
90 days online would be great
Marriage extension
The visa-extension (1 year or even better 5 years for those staying in Thailand for more than 5 years and having a Thai family or being retired)
I'm married to a Thai, we have children together and are married for 12 years.
I'm on my 8th 1-year extension.
A few years ago, it was possible to prepare the 1-year extension online (http://bangkok.immigration.go.th/en/base.php look at the left: E-Application, now a dead link).
I did it once and it was really efficient. I filled the online form, sent all required documents as attachments and an Immigration officer called us back the next day to confirm the appointment and asked us some more documents. It was still in Soi Suan Plue. We went there about 10 minutes before the appointment time with the orginal documents, and didn't spend more than 30 minutes. Unfortunately, they didn't keep this online service when they moved to Chaeng Wattana.

Hi geovalin,
I don't have all the answers (and IMHO I think nobody have them), but I can try to share my own experience. As many of my friends and relationship, I grew up in a bilingual family (French/German-Alsacien) and have lived in a bi/tri-lingual environment (German and Alsacien are 2 different languages).
About your questions:
1- Ability to speak different languages.
2- Schooling, results, prospect
The ability to speak one or more language depends not only on the knowledge of the language itself, but also on the use of it (frequency, duration, etc.). You can have one or two mother tongue that you command perfectly, and other so-called "secondary" languages. The younger your learn, the easier it will be. At school, you learn the basics, some vocabulary, grammar (beuark), etc.Just like your "main language", you have to practice it to maintain and improve it. The "main language" is not always the native. I know many people whose native language is Alsacien (that's not German) and started to speak French only at 4-5 years, when they started school. Some of them have even frogotten their native language.Another point I've noticed (thanks to my job as translator), the scientific, technical an general knowledge is language-independant. That means, that you can learn maths in French, Geography in English and Science in Thai, you will always be able to "convert" this knowledge it in another one of the languages you know. I play this with my daughters (7 and 8) on a regular basis.3- Being in a bilingual (Thai - English) school [as you know bilingual is definitely different from international], she can speak English and she naturally speaks to me ONLY in English. As she and me are not Native English Speaker, it's a kind of broken English. Well it's far better than most of our fellows (Cambodian and French) ability.
I think you should not worry too much about "broken English". The accent is not essential. Just like in French : Montreal, Abidjan, Paris, Marseille, Strasbourg... where is the "right" accent? For an English experience, just travel from London to Edinburgh and try to understand the name of this last city.4- I'd like she begins French soon.
I would recommend you to wait until G.10 (or M4 in thai) and choose French as a foreign language.IMHO, it would be more advisable to continue to improve her English and Thai skills until the end of the lower secondary cycle.French is a very difficult language and it could be confusing. I'm myself trying to emphasize English with my girls rather than French, but I think it's more easy to switch from French to English (difficult to easy).Reading - writing:
Does she like to read ?My youngest loves "Tintin" (now in Thai, but I plan to switch to English soon)I plan to establish a kind of "reading-and-language schedule" at home:Monday read an English book, Tuesday watch TV in Thai, Wednesday read a Thai book, Thursday watch TV in English, Saturday French movie (just ideas)What about bi-lingual schools at secondary level in Thailand?
I've spoken about it with some teachers (english and thai) and I think at secondary level, you should switch to a monolingual school (English or Thai) and continue the second (and third) language as a foreign language. There are many things to learn and if your daughter is already fluent in 2-3 languages, she will continue to be fluent if she uses them, which should not be very difficult in Bangkok.Cultural environment:
Prospect:
A lot to say about it.General:
How does she feel about the languages?
When she watches TV, does she choose the Thai or the English soundtrack (if you have True-UBC)?
Maybe you should considere her own preferences too.
Good luck

You have "Davideo", at the ground floor of Thai Wah Tower, on Sathorn, and you can rent some at Alliance Française.
Davideo also have some French movies with Thai soundtrack/subtitle.
Is tomorrow a school holiday? (Varee Schhool)

Maybe it depends on the grade/level/year/class.
My youngest daughter is in EP6 (grade 6), tomorrow and Thursday day off, Friday last day of school with some exams in the morning.
My eldest is in M2EP (grade 8), tomorrow exams, Wednseday off, Thursday and Friday exams. Friday last day of school.
Both have received the schedules 10 days ago.
