I like the place....My wife's family originated there & that's where she got her degree....
It's a traffic snarl a lot of the time and the malls are not inspiring + always seem to be short on parking....
I'm guessing there's little to do once the "new" wears off it's pretty hum drum.....
No english book stores or movies (at least the times I've checked).....Seems to point to a LOT trips to Bangkok for farang type stuff....
Places to eat - meh - mostly catering for Thai & Thai night life....There is a piano bar/restaurant under the Centerpoint? Hotel where the Thai couples dress nicely....Also some legit karaoke rooms at the same place....
Seems to be an "entertain the farang type place" using elephants and landmarks - with a strong Thai pulse & backbone ....
Parking is a minus there (and worse at night) if in a car....
that's where she got her degree....
another one so so tiring ????

I personally know 2 guys living in Australia who met their current wifes in a bar. One in Pattaya and one in Phuket. No question, these ladies were prostitutes. One couple has been together for 11 years and have 2 children and the other have been together 7 years and have one child. So far all seems well. I've been visiting Thailand regularly for nearly 20 years and I guess the success rate with bar girls is less than with others. The problem for you is falling in love and then finding out that she is just out for your money. Painful lesson for many blokes whether in Thailand or anywhere. Also, good Thai girls don't hang around bars but just because she does, doesn't mean that she is necessarily bad.
If you intend maintaining this relationship then you need to keep your wits about you and don't let the hairy lassoo tie you up. At some point, you will begin to trust her. So all I can say is this. A crocodile will watch you come down to the river many, many times before it strikes.
you have a very fair point, but lets be honestest here who in there right mind would go to the red light district in there home land meet and date a hooker then marry her buy a house in her name then have kids with it and brag to anyone and everyone shes a real girl and she love me like all the blokes here do
i have lived with hookers but as for failing in love with them buying a house in there name having kids with them............ come on i know im better than that and i know my old mum would turn in her grave.

If yes, do it.
She may like you as well, but maybe has financial obligations to a third party but don't want to involve you or not yet.
Up to you to eventually help her financially, and up to you to decide what amount you eventually want to spend on her.
Good luck with your decision.
By the way I am married 19 years with a lady who occasionally worked in a bar because of a financial problem I helped her solved.
a more fair and honest post, well done mate. most TV members wives are university educated company owners or so they would have you believe.

Ditto for UK.
Last week I was at a local hangout/bookstore/food place, and not drinking on this occasion. Just me, a bottle of water, and people watching at the 7-Eleven across the road.
It was almost more enjoyable than getting pished! (but my girl was helping out her friend working there and I didn't have any 'sneaky sunglasses' with me).
If I could live this life 1000 times over I might get bored after perhaps the eight or nine hundredth time. Have to say though, as I get older I'm just as happy to look and imagine, whereas even a decade ago I was rampant and seeing how many times I could clock up another score (with GF, not butterfly) before one or both of us were really 'Thor' ("I'm Thor", "You're Thor?", "Well, ... It hurts").
Mental viagra with added bromine - there's a market opportunity I swear. It would be a marriage saver Lol.
Familiarity breeds .... er, brats?i see a lot of these Thai ladies now catching up with the fat eating habits of the women in USA and UK

Many years ago it was 200 and farangs wanted the caddies to like them so they use to give a lot more same with the bar girls when they were 500.
Farangs messed the whole job up here by always tipping too much now the rates of exchange have changed and no one can afford golf or bar girls.

Perfect! Thank you! This is not an issue for me, but I do fear a lot of "top up / stamp & go" folks are in for a very nasty surprise in 2020.
not if you meet the criteria

He tried that. He has secondary proof of his income in addition to a still-valid embassy-letter, but they don't care if he "really has" the income or not, because that is not the point of the exercise.

convert a retirement to a marriage visa
due mainly to the poor AUD to Baht rates and new rules.
ok i have the same situation with sterling so i opened a sterling account and sent over the equivalent amount in sterling no problem.
do the same with your AUD

female beauty tends to peak between late teens and early 20s. By 30, most women are wholly unattractive
i think your having a bit of a joke with that statement unless you truly believe that. lucky your in Asia and you can pay for a young girls.
personally i wouldn't want a girl around me in her late teens or early 20s for more than an hour.

That's only about 1 decent Thai salary. Almost all of us spend at least 4 or 5 Thai salaries into the economy a month - which is still considered "not enough" by the authorities.
You have it exactly backwards. They want MORE people using agents. This change will ensure that. They don't "check seasoning" for agent-applications, so it doesn't matter how long the seasoning is - except to the extent it lowers competition from alternate-lenders who don't pay off immigration, like the agents do.
Many did meet them, and still do (the original requirements). They have moved the goalposts. That's the problem
If they could not afford to be here, they would not be here, since there are no handouts for them here.
Which criteria - those in place when they "Retired" here, or the moved goalposts since?
Which set? The ones a week ago, the month before, or whatever they make up tomorrow?
Now they are requiring you leave it in during the "consideration" period afterwords - 1 or 2 months more - depending on how they feel about doing it that week (some offices, including Chang Wattana).
It's just another "seasoning" requirement which can ignored the same as the existing seasoning requirement.
Unless they are going to arrest the crooked IOs who work with agents, none of this makes any difference to those using agents.
Got it backwards. All this does is increase the "seasoning" which agent-applications don't have to show - ever.
No, they go to agents and get the red-carpet treatment.
Agents file the 90-day reports for the scumbags - part of the package-deal. No TM-30s needed for agent-apps either, so they could be anywhere.
If they could not afford to be here, they would not be here, since there are no handouts for them here.
OK if you want to split hairs, it would seem that maybe at one stage they could afford to be here, now things are becoming more difficult and you need more money and the goal posts are moving, they cant afford to be retired here.

As usual, Thailand appears to be rowing against the tide.
Thailand is just like the Thai people, they just dont care.
all you people who keep winning about all this, seems to me, you either cant afford to be retired here or just want something to moan about.
if you can afford it and meet all the criteria i really dont see any problems.
