  1. Why are people on this forum telling farangs to "mind their own business"

We live here, we have children here, we are residents, we even invented their parliamentary system, educated them etc

I'm sick of this Thai for Thai crap!

I wholeheartedly agree with you on this one.

My pet hate is to be told we are visitors and we should be grateful...

    1. I am not a visitor - I work here, have a family here, own property here, pay staff and pay tax

    2. I would only be grateful if someone was paying for me but strangely enough I pay for myself

I would love for someone to explain this one to me some day!

Please don't get me wrong but it's as simple as this: If you wouldn't be here all of this wouldn't happen to you.

This is not only typical for Thailand but for a lot of Asian countries. Example: I was in an accident where somebody hit the back of my car. Police (Thai) came and told me that it's my fault. I replied how that can be as I was simply standing on that road. Answer: If you wouldn't be there nothing would have happend. Thant's a simple approach to see things and I don't blame them for that. It's the way things are seen here as I learned it from a lot of my colleagues who had similar experiences here in Thailand or Vietman, China etc...

You are the guest and therefore it's none of your business. Like it or not. This is not the western world/

  2. F***

What is happening with you Thai's!

Lots of protests but no one putting forward answers.

You live a democracy, you make your bed you lie in it!

In the mean time you can work on changes!

Maybe I have lived in a world of stability born in the UK and moving to Oz in 1990 when I was 28.

I see good and bad in Taksin, he was certainly a shrewd leader.

    What do you want?

The Yellow shirts to appoint their own leader for Thailand?

Or the red shirts to appoint Taksin as their leader for Thailand?

Yes that would be a dictatorship!

    Let's see some answers here!

Turn on Channel 3 if you want some answers. Thai drama is still on. (Slapping & yelling and loasd of cute chicks) Apart from a few idiots who are paid to cause trouble the majority still doesn't give a shit what's going on. It's the minority and the rest of thais are still lovely smiling people who like to live in peace.

I think there is a lot more under the surface in Thai society that does not fall inot the 'live in peace' category otherwise we would not be witnessing so many angry people right now. What did they just forget to smile today or maybe they have been harbouring a lot of resentment for years and now it's bubbling over?

yes, but please admit that the "bubbling over" happens to a few of the 60 million we live together with. The majority is sick of what happens to then since 2006 and just want to be left alone. Living here since seven years taught me that Thais are (when it comes down to the basics) truly peaceful people. The ones causing the trouble are not representative and the one who are are (typically asian) to grieng djai to rasie their voices to make this all end.

  4. For the Brits amongst us, think of the possible consequences if Thaksin should regain power. He has said he will be avenged for having his UK visa revoked. Long term stayers may find things get (even more) difficult.

yes... and he could even come up with the idea that zee germans take over to give them pupils proper english lessons :o

  5. Apart from all the guessing I believe that time has come where all Thais & faraanghave to send a clear signal that we are not yellow or red or whatsoever. I met Abhisit two weeks ago and despite his failure in Pattaya he's really the humble person he is when appearing in public. No matter which party he's in he really tries to unite Thais and the purpose of all his actions is to bring this country back to a normal state.

My understanding is that the situation by now seems to be beyond repair but at least in the area I call my home I'm still able to convince people not to join the idiocracy taking place right now and I believe that this is what all of us (Thais & foreigners who love this still wonderful country) can do to bring this to a better end.

I really do not understand all the rambling here and I'm quite sure that false accusations (to what side ever) do any good. Have a beer, talk to your friends and convince as many as you can that whoever is in charge, violence as we've seen it today is to answer and will never be for the good.

I hope that my singha will always be at least that cchilled than the minds who decide about the future of this wonderful piece of land.

    Love shuni

  6. I'm getting sick & tired about people ranting whose side is good and who are the evil ones here.

This situation has to come to an end before people die and I by myself do not find any justified reason why a living being should loose his/her life because some dickheads are too proud, narrowminded, stupid, arrogant or whatever to step back when time is asking for it. I don't give dogs*it about the PAD or PPP. I don't want people somewhere in this country have to grieve because someone they loved had to die.

  7. Yes Thailand is (will) losing a lot of money ... and so what ... why is it always about money (the actual world financial collapse is far more damaging)... could we look at this a little further and then perhaps realise that here comes an opportunity for a REAL revolution in Thailand ...

Is it the chance to reset this country and get it out of middle age social, political behaviors ...

Most Thais are sensible, reasonable, compassionate people ... they want to have a normal life under the governance of well thought policies adapted to their way of life. Thais are tired of endemic corruption and political racketeering.

Has the time come for a revolution ? it may be the solution, it will be painful but the reward might be beyond most of their expectations... During these times always emerge someone with a genuine ideology.

WHOOOA wake up boy even if you like this dream a lot. Do you really think that Sonthi & Co. are after a country with democratic values? They want back what was taken from them under the Thaksin regime. Simple as that. Bangkok elite does not like the butter on northern breads & pocktes of telecom tycoons as it makes their own bread taste kind of dry.

  8. Their initial intentions were good but past month made violent thugs out of them. You do not hi-jack busses, trucks and airports. You do not equip yourself with armed guards, you do not threaten people having other ideas & ideals.

Thugs for having armed guards? Has it escaped your notice that people have been throwing grenades and shooting at them? Ideals, such as a corruption-free government?

The armed guards were there from day one at the government house. The grenades came much later. And please correct me but the first one shot was a red shirt as far as I remember and the shooter was a yellow shirt guarding the non-violent peaceful protesters.

Yes I have ideals and the most important one is "Rule of Law". And this counts for both, the corrupt ones and the ones who think to wear a yellow shirt makes them standing on top of each law.

I'm sorry shunima- I understand that you feel disappointed by the PAD- but like many on this board- those who claim the PAD actually has the best interests of the poor at heart- that the PAD is not serious when it says 70/30- that the PAD are essentially nice people made mad by circumstances- you have created a movement that existed only in your mind.

They were dangerous from day one- and still are. They were reactionary protofascists (of the Pibun stripe) on day one- and they still are.

Only some people in their zeal to rid the country of Thaksin didn't want to face the reality of this self appointed band of liberators.

Rather they created a movement in their brains and tried to fit PAD into it. Now the realisty is bursting out of the seams.

And rather than admit they hooked their wagon to a devil horse- they try to say the horse went crazy.

    It always was.

Blaze...I'm not that much disappointed. It still believe that the early beginng was ok as it didn't start with the ousting of Thaksin. It all started with freedon of speech when Thaksin shut down television & radio programmes. That time it was good to stand up, the gatherings in Lumphini park were new to a lot of Thais to express their interest in democarcy & politics. Unfortunately most of the supporters got highjacked as well when the course changed late 2005. Since then... sad sad story of sad old men angry not to be in power themselves.

  10. Thai police warn airport protesters to leave immediately

by Boonradom Chitradon Boonradom Chitradon – 6 mins ago

BANGKOK (AFP) – Thai police on Friday ordered protesters to immediately leave one of Bangkok's besieged airports, as anti-government leaders rejected last-ditch attempts to negotiate an end to the crisis.

A police officer at the domestic Don Mueang airport, which was seized late Wednesday, read out an order to demonstrators a day after Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat declared a state of emergency .

"All protesters must... leave the rally site otherwise law enforcement officers will carry out appropriate and necessary measures to solve the situation," the order said.

As fears of bloody clashes escalated, the founder of the protest movement rejected a personal plea from the premier to hold talks to end the occupation of Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi international airport.

"Today the prime minister contacted me on the telephone to negotiate. There are no talks," Sondhi Limthongkul told supporters at Don Mueang, insisting that he was not afraid of a police crackdown.

...I really do not know how to sympathize with PAD . They don't give a sh*t about all the good people still thinking they are at the airports for a good reason and will most likely suffer very soon.

  11. what wonders me is that since almost 1 1/2 hours the bigger agencies stopped to update their news. The whole day news swept in every 5 minutes even if they were mostly updated versions of previous articles. Now there's silence on yahoo news, Nation & Bangkok Post since almost 90 minutes. Something is going on and it's not free SomTum at Gate 2

Counting bodies perhaps? They'll get back to us with the total when they're done, don't worry.

You seem almost anxious to see bloodshed. A little disturbing really. Had they taken the airport with hand grenades and machine guns, then they would deserve a swift and bloody end. But they have taken an entirely different approach. These are human lives we're talking about. Perhaps you've forgotten the human trait of empathy, conducting all your work and communication in front of a computer screen.

Seems a certain parties here have already dehumanized PAD to terrorists and muppets,

so they don't have the same human rights. That's the short route to civil war:

Dehumanize your opponent then it's easy to not care for their deaths.

Working fine in Mumbai this week it seems.

Their initial intentions were good but past month made violent thugs out of them. You do not hi-jack busses, trucks and airports. You do not equip yourself with armed guards, you do not threaten people having other ideas & ideals. You do not ask for dictatorship and you do not question other peoples rights to be equal and therefore having the same right to decide what you want for your country and what not. At least not where I come from.

It's not always easy to accept that other are in charge when it feels painful in your own pockets. But to overthrow an elected government with unlawful and undemocratic means is not the way. What happens when the so-called opposition comes to power. Then we have the same game only with red shirts. This must have an end and as much as I oppose PPP I fully understand that a government can't step down because a few bitter old men stage a riot and ask for violence & military intervention.

Lock Sondhi & Chamlong away for the next decades, fire the army generals and then ask all opposition parties to join the government for an interim period to cool things down together. Then you might have a chance to get new elections with an outcome that doesn't suck. PAD has f**ked this wonderful country long enough for reason which are not for the Thai but for some narrow minded elite. This protest does not serve this country. I do not want bloodshed, I want an end and so far it's the PAD who denies it. The PPP did not block the airports, or did I got something wrong???

  13. farang555

can you please stop to flood this topic with your st***d rants. Maybe the guy isn't the brightest leaf on the tree and maybe he had bad luck with the women he fell in love with but there's no point in it for you sitting bitter at home and prducing stupid sentences how dumb farang men and how irresponsible thai woman are. (or is this the experience you got from countless bar visits where you drown your own sad life). See, it isn't nice to write that about you without knowing you. Here's somebody asking for advise, so please give what was asked for.

    No personal feelings eh?

  14. ...have never been in Pattaya or Phuket, do know nothing Soi Cowboy and the only evening I've been in one of the bars in Patpong I've been there because the rain made it impossible to stay out at the nightmarket and 80THB for a small heinie isn't too bad. But I've been in the north the south the east the central, have seen a lot in the ten times I've been in Thailand during the last couple of years.

And...surprise surprise !!! met a very nice woman in a resort in Chiang Rai where she worked in the kitchen because she got sick from working in factories for more than 6 years. I liked her, she liked me and now we live together in LOS since more than one year. I go to work, she doing something for her education, she never asked for money but for a more interesting life. That's what I try to give her and that's why our relationsship works. We love each other because we give ourselves a wonderful time. I didn't ###### around in europe so why should I do so here? It's simple as this. When I see my friends and colleagues I can't find personalities like the ones decribed in this topic. Is it so unthinkable that there is an expat community in Thailand which is not <deleted>*king around? What are all (or better the most) of you doing the whole day? Yes sure my life would be miserable and I would judge about other people if I had no other choice than hanging around in bars every night...together with all the other emaciated souls you can meet in these places... doesn't matter if you stay in Thailand, Europe or wherever.

But it is like it is ....Great minds think alike, fools seldom differ

    LOve :o:D Shuni

  15. ...three pages of stupidity. Just to inform you... I would rather spend every night together with an open-hearted women (and it really DOESN'T MATTER how she earns her money as long as she is really OPEN-HEARTED) than with some ignorant blokes like the ones which think they have the right to judge about women they don't know in a post like this.

Before you start to type some bullshit and generalize about people you don't know personally it would be useful to think about yourself. You will have enough time for these kind of thoughts when you sit in your VIP coach on your next monthly trip to cambodia. You can use your lonely nights at home for it after you got so pissed in your favourite pool&football expat pub that every respectable girl inevitably avoid to stay with you in the same room. (ooops... I get this weird feeling that I make generalizations about people I don't know)

But anyway... sometimes it is better to think about yourself first before you start to blow out unsustainable thoughts. Love you all ... Shuni

(one the first page somebody suggested to close this... isn't it time???)

  16. Hi Klaw!

When I count the days (03.12 - 01.01) I guess you have a simple 30day on-arrival tourist visa. This means that you have already an overstay of 12 days. I suggest to go to the next Immigration Office ASAP. Try not to look like a backpacker, be very friendly there, tell them that you just missed the point with 30 days validity because you mixed things up ( you can get a 60 day Tourist-Visa when you apply for it at a Thai embassy abroad). Show them that you are very sorry about your mistake and ask them what to do now. I guess that they say "mai dee" , don't do again, will charge you with 200THB for each day overstay and will give you another ten days extension for 1900THB. Bring two nice looking passport-photos and go there early (08.00-08.30) when they are still in a good mood.

If you want to stay here until 02/02/04 keep in mind that you have to do another border run, cause ten days is all they will give you. And be at Immigration before any Thai official has the chance to check your passport. Good luck

    Love shuni :o:D:D

  17. :o:DB)B)B)

....ooooops I forgot ! There is a way for all your smart complaining guys to stay longer without leaving the country!!! Go to Khao San, ask for one of the travel shops which offer Visa-extensions for Thailand. Have good luck and make sure that you find a shop who has the good 'rubber-made entry stamps' ( the potato-stamps are crap, believe me ) Then just believe in that you can stay legally in LOS for another 30 days. Pray a bit to Lord Buddha or another religious figure of your choice when you cross an immigration checkpoint the next time and when your good luck is still working the Thai government will give you an extension far beyond 10 days with free accomodation and min. 2 meals a day. Sounds great ???

    Love you all

    Shuni

  18. ...what the ###### is going on here ? Is it so hard to accept the rules of this wonderful place where you just stay for a while? I guess the decision to come here was your own. And of course it is much easier to complain than to move the a*** and get a proper visa before entering LOS. But simple mindedness seems to be the worst curse in all western cultures. Small advice: Stay in Texas and have fun there

    Love Shuni :o
